Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Here’s a piece from the telegraph today;

The Tigers have also expressed interest in Addo-Carr. When News Corp contacted the Tigers about the winger, a senior club official confirmed the interest but said they were yet to have any formal discussions with his new manager, Mario Tartak.

If Addo-Carr does return Concord, there is a view he could be played at fullback with Adam Doueihi shifting into the halves to partner Luke Brooks.

It’s believed the Tigers are looking for more pace and explosiveness from their fullback.

I’m not gonna be upset if we sign proctor (unless it’s on big money) but I won’t be upset if we don’t get him.

He’s an upgrade on Rowdy and MCK, but isn’t an X factor player. Will defend and take some carries but doesn’t do anything special.

Despite his biting charge (which he hasn’t been found guilty) he’s only ever been charged once before that in his entire career. Still is a good leader

We are after top quality players - don't think Proctor fits the bill myself and he will be 32.

Trouble is he is going to want a 2 but probably a 3 year deal.
Then when we have the dough and players are available for 2022 he is taking up a very valuable spot.

I’m okay with a two year deal but it has to be at the right price. In 2022 you would hope he’s just a decent depth option on a reasonably low price. Even for next season he’s probably a bench player, I’m just praying we don’t offer him too much it would be so stupid to offer him anything more than like $300k.

Just watching big league wrap on fox , there saying we look like signing Kevin Procter , only thing holding it up is we need to move someone on .

I think that this is a massive mistake if true. He's not the forward leader we need, he's in and out as far as form goes, he'll be 32 before next season kicks off and then there's the drug issue and now the biting charge, which well may carry a suspension into next year

Do you think he's the only one in the NRL that's dabbled with drugs

No but he and his mate may be the only ones in the NRL that got "caught on camera snorting lines of cocaine off a drug dealer's phone outside a busy nightclub"

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5601513/Footy-stars-Jesse-Bromwich-Kevin-Proctor-caught-camera-snorting-lines-cocaine.html

can we get the other one named here please 🙂

Not gonna lie, I’m warming up to Doueihi as our fullback... he’s only 22 and seems to be improving in the short period of time he’s been at the club and on 3 on 2 situations always seems to make the right choice with a very good passing game, while also being very safe under the high ball and running 200 meters on occasions, only thing he lacks is a bit of explosiveness and X factor but brining in a Josh Addo-Carr eliminates the need for that in our backline - hence the need for some pace in our team and why we really should prioritise JAC this off season

Doueihi reminds me of a young Darius Boyd, minus the flogness but....

Seems sideways to me. 30+ year old, non impact player. Maybe a slight upgrade on Rowdy, but seems to have a bit of a Chris McQueen signing vibe, albeit Kevs isn’t broken like CMQ.

Bottom line for me is that Proctor is a meat and potatoes kind of player which isn’t necessarily bad but I’m keen for someone that can emulate a succulent Chinese meal

Kudos for the reference to a succulent Chinese meal.

rivals JAC

Fox does it against NRL defences. Huge difference.

Between the Dogs paying Cotric a mint, which would affect how much they can offer JAC, and JAC’s previous affinity with our club, I’d say our odds are pretty short. IF he does leave Melbourne.

I don't like those odds
We have lost plenty of games with short odds
And this is just another type of game to get is signature
He with the most money is likely to win
But not always
JAC is a walk up start in just about every team in the comp on the wing
At fullback he is a gamble but a few teams may take the risk to snare his signature
He needs to prove his worth in that position before he gets his lollies
Some team will take the risk
I would give him 6 weeks at fullback but have Doueihi on the wing as a backup should Addo-Carr be having a bad day
We dont want to throw 2 points away per game if he is not up to it otherwise its another season gone before it starts
If he cant handle it then back to the wing
If he can then the following year give him a pay upgrade if deserved
We cant crumble to a players whims

We are currently playing a converted 5/8 at fullback.moving Douihei to his specialist position and bribing a fullback with speed is smart.

Madge got Inglis to be a premier fullback whilst Addo Carr is a world class winger he has the size and speed to make it work. We will lose a link man in attack which is a big concern you can either ball play or you can’t.

It makes sense for us more than any other Sydney team as we have no fullback.

Strange considering he’s contracted another two years. They can’t offer him anything unless Melbourne are willing to let him go.

We’ve got Liddle and Simpkin I’m okay with not spending big money on a hooker.

We lose a link man but JAC will be doing a lot of support work up the middle. Play him like Melbourne play Paps, limited ball playing but is the one receiving the ball in dangerous areas.

I’m more worried about how he would go defensively at the back. His pace will help but if he’s not in the right spot it will be a big issue

I agree.
I think we go for him, my only concern, as mentioned is his defence. Can he pull of the one on ones like Tedesco or Turbo? He has the pace to get in position I just don’t know about the technique....

The future of Melbourne Storm’s Origin and Kangaroos winger Josh Addo-Carr will be sorted out in the next couple of weeks. It looks a two-horse race between the two sides that played yesterday – the Canterbury Bulldogs and the Wests Tigers.

From Buzz Rothfield this morning. He’s a moron but his mail is normally pretty decent.

Surely we would have to be the favourite in that 2 horse race? Unless of course the Bulldogs can offer a lot more money wise.
