I agree, but we need enforcers nor workhorses/metereaters!

Tbh we badly need metre eaters. Also, Tamou is not an enforcer in any way. Never has been.

So which enforcer are we a realistic chance of getting for next season?

I have no idea, but we are getting monstered in the middle. To win games we need our forwards to be making metres in the middle. If that’s an enforcer or a workhorse I don’t really care.

If it were 3 years ago I’d gladly take Tamou. Good defensively and makes 100m+ per game. My concern with him is his age.

If you watch the game, it is the arm grabbing and lack of commitment to drive in with the shoulder. McIntyre and Taylor have great techniques' Our starting props have homework. In the off season.

The first part of your answer summed up our situation though mate. There are no better options out there (especially if Welch is staying at The Vermin).
Tamou's age isn't a huge issue, he's mobile and isn't injury prone: he would be good value for 2 years, no longer than that. He's not a broken-down knucklehead sorta prop, he's still got quality to offer.

Both would be awesome, but I’d prefer Tamou if we could only have one.

McIntyre will grow into a beast. Great defensively....he will be our defensive enforcer in a year or 2. Like the look of him and his progress.

Well I'm clearly in the minority on this one, but I actually think Tamou would be a good signing for us.

Your not in minority mate.
Too many people on here just ready to criticise any recruitment suggestions.
Tamou is not old In terms of how props mature. Apart from Welch he is best in form prop on the market when you take experience and leadership into account and that’s what our pack desperately needs.
So yea .... he ticks the boxes for me also.

Are people forgetting that we lack funds and cannot go out and by another game changing forward until we lose Reynolds & Packer... I think its smart if we were to pick up Tamou on say a 2 year deal as he would full in 1 of our front row places and not cost an arm or leg..
Its called a salary cap and I would rather spend a few hundred thousand on Tamou then go without until our salary cap is fixed. We have a heap of Young players that need leadership and he fits that bill.
Remember he is not going to be a superstar and make 200+ m a game so take that out of your minds. (he will do better than Packer)

Spot on.

We won't get the production from him that he had this year in the Panthers pack

But if we can get 100M a game from him and Aloai, lift an injury free Miakele, get an injury free Musgrave and develop Stefano we will be in a better position (quite a few if's in there)

Aloai needs some help and he looks like the most achievable solution

Agree.. Its a easy decision for me on this one considering the position we are in.. there will be some egg on faces in a year or 2 once Madge gets rid of the rubbish and we have a competitive team on a weekly bases. (Mainly you guns also)

Signing this type of player hasn’t work for us for the last 9, going on 10 years. When are we going to break this taking ageing cast offs cycle?

Well guess what .... our luck is about to change.

Tamou is 31, he will be 32 next year. There is a reason he is being let go. Youth and speed, youth and speed.

We have youth in the forwards its a case of balance - I wouldn't rely on paper to be getting the best out of anyone.

Speed in the backs is not there yet

Only props.... (and a pretender)
Musgrave 22
Aloai 24
Stefano 20
Twal 24
Miakele 22
Packer 30

Agree and you can remove Packer off that list as he is useless. So our oldest one is 24 years old..... All Top teams have older experienced players in the team and we are trying to add a good one with limited funds and people are complaining.. :man-shrugging:

Yes it’s not like the whole pack are 30 plus! One experienced prop, who has played Origin, test matches, won a premiership and is the captain of the team currently leading the comp is exactly what we need to lead and mentor our young pack. Relying on a pack full youth and speed without a hard head or two to compliment them gets you nowhere - just ask the Broncos!

We keep doing the same thing, signing ageing cast offs, year, after year, after year, after year and we expect different results.

Yep I’m hearing it .... over and over and over.

I just don’t get how people think they know what the team needs more than Madge does if he thinks we need tamou to make the 8 get him here

Yep I would but I doubt the club would. Not sure if he has the spine to come back with tail between his legs?

It has been really noticeable to me the difference these two have made in the past two weeks in getting the side back to level pegging, especially when down a player with AD binned. McIntyre has blossomed and Taylor deserves praise for working on his game with the coach to better suit the new ruck rules and bringing those changes back to the field.

Tamou is 31, he will be 32 next year. There is a reason he is being let go. Youth and speed, youth and speed.

He's been let go because of the talent Penrith have coming through the younger forwards are all progressing well so its time to move on its called salary cap management and when you have the talent available that Penriff have its vital important to a clubs continued success and a good front rower at 32 years if age is like a fine wine it gets better with age we have some good young forwards BUT we do not have a LEADERSHIP

Then let’s steal some of their Juniors. We don’t need plodder leadership, we have plenty of that. I’ve been hearing the same old rhetoric for nearly a decade and where had it got us? Consistently 9th. How about we change tack and do something different like I don’t know, go for youth and speed instead.

When you look at the top 5 sides they all have a mixture of youth ,30 gamers and 50 gamers as well as 100 game players and older hard heads a team built on youth will always find it difficult prime example BRONCOS at the beginning of the year on paper looked world beaters to many young and big egos no leadership image that side with a Petro or Wally in it.

Forget the Broncos they are a basket case. We have a multi premiership winning coach to guide the young. Besides it’s not like the team now is made up of 18 and 19 year olds. There is enough mature heads to get the job done. More than anything we need some speed, along with some more youth and we have a premiership or three in the making. It won’t be next year, we need to be looking at 2022 and beyond. The time to build is now. Youth and speed is what we need.

I guess the best example of do’s and don’t of how best to groom young players - you just have to look at the differences between the broncos and the Panthers to see how it works or doesn’t.

Both teams are full of kids with a hand full of games to their names...the difference being the Panthers which do have a good mix of experience players such as Tamou, Yeo and Koroisau up front and Mansour, Whare out the back...

I know which format I’d rather at the WTs when I look at the Nrl ladder.

So let me get this straight....Tamou is one of the first players picked from the team with the best depth in the comp who have only lost one game for the year however many of you think he won't be a good signing? What's the alternative? We could upgrade Seyfarth for another three years instead, at least he is not old or injury prone....may not be NRL standard but hey, he's cheaper than Tamou.

Tamou is playing good club footy - no doubt. When he played for the Blues he was way out of his depth. If Madge wants him here, I'm OK with it, but I would be very nervous signing him for longer than 2 years.
