Contract money for 2018 season must be paid out of 2018 cap, unused money does not carry over

Not talking about unused money.

Talking about bringing some 2018 money into 2017, and creating space in the 2018 Cap to make big offers to our big 4.

Chooks did that with Maloney didn't they? Front loaded him one year before he was even at the club.

NRL banned that practice after Maloneys contract

You can't back or front load contracts anymore, but there are a 100 and one ways to beat the system and we seem to be one of the only clubs that plays by the rules.

We seem to develop more than half our NRL side, then pick up some journey men to make up the numbers. Then once they get NRL standard have to release them because of cap space. Plus pay other clubs for taking them. The only player I can recall we bought when he was at the top of his game for big money was Adam Blair.
A lot of other clubs buy a heap of marquee players, with little consequence.
Something isn't right with this system.

Of course you can! Do you really think all players receive equal payments for every year of their contract?

The NRL banned back and front loading contracts. Sure you can have a clause in your contract that you get a increase after x amount of games or you play rep football, but you can back or front load contracts in order to juggle cap space from year to a next. For example the big 4 could have a clause in their contract that says if the cap goes up by 50% the contract goes up by 20%. That is not considered backloading

It is simple, upgrade and extend, which is front loading and just as WT did with Suli recently.

I wouldn't take less in a following year than the previous 1..but that's me…

Shillington just announced his retirement from football, maybe the Coast may decide to use the cash on our man Simona!!!

Yes, but you would give someone a lap dance for $5

I reckon Geo still pays for all his lap dances still , but this world is a weird place and people will do anything to win a bet

On a serious note though the Titans have a few blokes I'd be interested in if they wanted to swap centres for Simona …....

Talking centres this Sarginson bloke from the ESL comes with some pretty big wraps from Kurt Gidley

The same thought crossed my mind when I read it last night. Convenient timing for the decision.

Contrary to media reports, the Parramatta Eels have made no contact re Tim Simona and are satisfied with its current options at centre.

It's cos they wanted Noffa.

Have heard some interesting news from a mate at the Titans that both parties have discussed a trade with Tim Simona and Will Zillman. Zillman is on 650K but if the Titans contribute to a large portion of that salary, the Tigers would be keen for a swap deal. Leivaha Pulu was also discussed as a potential sweetener for the deal but Titans arent budging as Neil Henry likes him. Either way it sounds as thought Tim Simona will be headed to the GC.

Zillman is woeful but just the sort of reject we would sign because no other club would go near him

As I said about ten pages ago, Simona is short odds to join the Chargers, but as for Zillman as a trade, just do not get what we would gain

Is he a back-up hooker?

An outside back who is more effective than the one we have for better value.

People who rave about Simona never seem to be able to back it with any stats. Makes few line breaks, can't put his winger away and is average defensively. The only thing he really has is speed and even that seem to desert him over the last two years.

Hope he proves me wrong but if we can fill his spot with an average outside back on half is wage, I would take the deal in a heartbeat.
