Simpkin is 19 we should be expectimg him to start in nrl for a couple of years at least.

We should be going all out for either Brandon Smith or Josh Hodgson with Simpkin to learn and play 20 mins off the bench for 2 years before taking over.

Can’t compare Simpkin to Smith. Smith came through a far superior system.

Im not comoaring them im saying buy Brandon Smith and have Simpkin on the bench for 2 years

I'm sure if we looked at Cam Smith or Robbie Farah at 19 they would not resemble in playing skills the great hooker forwards they became. Remember Simpkin has been thrown into a badly beaten team and asked to perform as an established hooker. This is different to debuting with the Roosters or Penrith.

On Liddle, it takes 12 months of playing to regain confidence and speed after a serious knee injury. He has done remarkably well and I hope we can retain him. I believe he is Captain material.

I’d be surprised if Madge drops Simpkin. His a lot stronger in defence than Liddle is. And we know that defence is the priority.
I’d like to see 20-30mins of Simpkin, Liddle on after that with Simpkin coming back with about 20 to go with the starting props.

Have to say I am underwhelmed. Been waiting and waiting on his running game, but so far it’s non existent. Farah made his debut at the same age and made an immediate impact. So far, he isn’t much better than Liddle, and if Liddle stays on, it shouldn’t be a given that Simpkin will be first choice.

Hate to say it but I’m with you mate.

Of course the easy answer is “he’s played 3 games, give him some time”.

I’m sorry but I don’t see it. In my experience you can usually see if a player has “it” within 10 minutes of watching them play.

I’m not saying he can’t be serviceable, but I’m not seeing anything even remotely that gives me the hope he’s special. I think at best he might be a Jayden Brailey type.

At this stage Liddle is a mile ahead of him.

Liddle is a better defender imo

The main problem he has is playing behind a forward pack which regularly gets dominated and doesn't give him quick play the ball. If that changes, his game will completely change IMO. We played with more venom in the second half with Mikaele and Stefano denting the line and Liddle was able to run off the back of it. We only seem to string 20 minutes of football a week where we look ok up the middle.

Well as many have compared him to Steve Walters ......really he is the antithesis of the modern day hooker and what is expected

I've never seen him show speed at all ....

Sorry but Robbie made a clean line break with his first touch in 1st grade. Let’s not compare Jake to Robbie or Cam Smith.

I get the point you’re trying to make. But you can’t make it with the two best hookers of the past 20 years.

Hate to say it but if Jake was as classy as Robbie or Smith, we’d already know about it. Doesn’t mean he still can’t be a quality player.

Simpkin played 50 mins - 29 tackles - 3 missed - 2 ineffective

Liddle played 30mins - 13 tackles - 2 missed - 2 ineffective

Liddle is not a better defender.

Context ..

Would like to see both Simpkin and Liddle in the 17.

Starting hooker 0-30 minutes
Bench hooker 30-65 minutes
Starting hooker 65-80 minutes

Don’t know who I’d start and who I’d bench but that’s just a rough idea of how it could potentially be balanced better

So many were crying out for the next superstar to be unleashed. Well, he seems like just another decent 9. All the hype seems to be somewhat over the top. Hope he makes it, but he's got years to get there. Luke was being compared to Harry Grant and even that comparison is kind of ridiculous. Can't we just be patient?

Liddle was abysmal for the first 6 games. The kid has had 4 games. He’s not up to speed at this stage and using both is probably the best bet as we can’t play Mbye.

I rate Simpkin he will be good. He’s 2 years behind Harry Grant and he was out of the Storm system. They develop players better than any team.

Both are decent 9’s but at this stage neither look like world beaters. They both reflect where the team is at right now. Learning, Inconsistent with defensive problems.

JL had his knee strapped and looked a bit strained running however, could be the strapping. Both struggle playing 80.

Neither have shown they can kick.

One will be gone next week, if mbye goes to 14.

19yo with 4 games under his belt playing in the worst perform team we have put on the field since the merger and ppl are whinging that he isn't living up to the hype

I love this forum but geez

let's give liddle some time like another 49 games over 5 years

Simpkin will be very good, but it's a lot to ask for a 19 year old, said before his ball delivery is not as good as Liddle's, but his work ethic and game control is better. M'Bye should not play another NRL game, won't be there next year, upgrade Gebbie.

Who says Liddle needs time? He’s playing just fine
