So who is better than Sheens, available and why?

Southern it surprises me that you don't know how he went from hero to zero. 4 straight seasons of missing the finals after winning a Premiership is why he went to that. If you can find any professional sports teams forum in the world and find content fans after 4 seasons of failure then provide me with the link. He made some pathetic signings during this period. This team selections were very questionable playing a lot of players who had dud form over a long period of time.

Did you see some of Teo's heartless performance in 2008? Yet Sheens kept picking the bloke week in week out. Did you see John Morris's inept displays at halfback over a 3 year period, yet Sheens kept picking him.
As I said before our captain said so as much. He wanted to get out of the place because of what was going on. The place went backwards at a rate hen we should of been entering a period of playing finals most seasons.

Southern it is not unusual for a coach to be lauded by a fan base and then derided 3 years later. Results/Performances/Recruitment and selection dictated that. Southern which other teams in the NRL failed to make the finals from 2006 to 2009?? There was 1 Penrith along with us. That is simply not good enough regardless of previous success. Dress it upany way you like about rebuilding, but they are light weight excuses.

Not just the fans started applying the blowtorch, but the media and obviously our captain as well. He has obviously had a change in approach the last 12 months and we look like we are going forward again. However it is long overdue and i maintain he was lucky to escape the axe.

2 wins, 1 loss. Yeah we have been here before. Im interested to see if we have more wins then losses after 26 Rounds, which Sheens has found hard to acheive the last 4 seasons.

but what about all the re-building - getting rid of dead wood - juniors coming through - dont you think it has to pay dividends soon? maybe its our time now. i havent seen us beat a team like the way we did parra for a few years - i personally think the tide is changing Eddie. I think we will reap what we have sown.

Off Topic - Well done Tomcat on the Avatar.

I though mine was good - Halo Xbox

Of Sheens is best for WT

You have hit the nail on the head. A perfect example of another club in the same situation is an EPL club Liverpool, there coach Benitez is a cloan of Sheens.

This cycle rubbish your all talking about is RUBBISH. So what you want to have a good year 1 every 5 years? What are we like a leap year but in a team?????? COMMON GUYS! Its time our team makes the finals year in year out, time we are known as genuine contenders, sure sheens got us a premiership and no one can take that away from him or say he under achieved, but for the following 4 years he did.

Everyone going on about how this cycle is turning again ROFL <<< says it all

When Tim Sheens came to the club in 2003 we were nothing short of a joke. We were the most hated team in the Comp. We were hated even more than the Bulldogs. To say that you were a Wests Tigers fan was nothing short of a little bit embarrassing. (thanks to the efforts of Hoppa and Craig Field)…

Since 2003, with literally the least amount of resources available to ANY COACH at ANY CLUB AT THE TIME, Tim Sheens has rebuilt the whole club. He completely changed the Culture. Not only has he made the club respectable, he delivered us a Premiership. Sheens didn't have a sugar daddy like Russell Crowe, News LTD or Michael Searle backing him up... I'd like to see how Bellyache would've gone without all that News LTD funding when he started out at the Storm... Or Jason Taylor at the Rabbitohs without Rusty's Visa Card. hmmmmm

Ultimately, Sheens has done more for the Tigers than what Warren Ryan was ever able to do for Balmain, or what Roy Masters was ever able to archive while at Wests, (or St George). Everyone considers Warren Ryan a genius for taking Newtown (the poorest team in the comp at the time) to a Grand Final... Tim Sheens did the same thing except he went one better.... he made them Premiers. He is our Brian Clough, our Jack Gibson, our Sir Alex... Without him we haven't got a chance in hell.

There is another issue that also needs to be considered. If a Coach like Tim Sheens leaves one club for another, there are going to be a few players tigers players following him out the door... Look at when John Lang moved to Penrith.... He took Preston Campell and Martin Lang with him... and won a Premiership. Look at all the Former Broncos at St George these days (Priddis Sailor, Costigan, Boyd and Emmett... Took Bennett 1 season to get a Minor Premiership.) Phil Gould went to the Roosters from Penrith... and took Brad Fittler with him. If Sheens leaves, your mad if you think Marshall and Farah won't be tempted to follow him.

Within 6 months of winning a Premiership in 2005, a few things happened that kind of messed things up for a while.
We Lost Prince, (who put his cue in the rack as soon as signed for the titans), Laffranchi, and Pat Richards. Put that into perspective...losing your halfback, your best winger and your key forward. Imagine how the Newcastle Knights champion team of 2001 would've gone if they had to replace Andrew Johns, Timana Tahu, and Ben Kennedy.... they wouldn't just "Bounce Back" would they??? Esp if What was left of that team stuggled with injuries for the next couple of seasons... These things take time. It took Sir Alex Ferguson almost 8 years to win his first Title for Man United.

Tim Sheens is a Genius, and in spite of the little things that frustrate everyone, I can't imagine anyone else as Coach. However, if forced to choose there are only really 5 people who can be considered.

Jason Taylor.
Graham Murray.
Nathan Brown.
Royce Simmons
Steve Folkes

Tiger can you refrain from having Tim Sheens and Sir Alex in the same sentence please. They are nothing alike. Sir Alex won the title the last 3 years, Tim Sheens has won nothing in the last 3 years. Sir Alex get his team to champions league, Tim Sheens cant make top 8 yet alone top 4\. Sir Alex has won Champions League, Tim Sheens failed to bring back WCC trophie. Now fair is fair, chelsea should of had the trophie by now, but Sir Alex has got his squad to step upto the next level, Tim sheens failed the last 4 years to do so.

Im shocked how anyone could put those 2 names in the same sentence. Can you please support what you have wrote with something? PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE im on the edge of my chair waiting to fall off it laughing.

And i think we all forget Benji is on a "lifetime deal" so he aint going no where. Whos to say our next couch might bring us the next Ronaldo of NRL?

Money, Rehab. Sir Alex is given it, Sheens never has. And people wonder why we make bad recruitment decisions.

Mind you I dont like comparisons between Ferguson and Sheens because Sheens is better at his job. I say that as a Man U fan.

Gee an actual answer to the question would be nice…rather than another rant on how average Sheens is....we know...

At least I put up Nathan Brown...

I thought Kearney would have wanted to coach a NRL side. He has done his time under Bellamy and he is the NZ Kiwis coach. Wouldn't he want a chance to prove himself as a NRL head coach? If Sheens goes at the end of 2011 then Kearney could be the one to take over, if he isn't already taken.

Phil Gould is really the only person I would be prepared to swap Sheens for, (in terms of who is available) although he is never going to coach again.

I would consider Taylor. The guy is a good analyst of the game. This was one of the reasons he was able to compete so long without the natural ability of other less accomplished players. However, he needs some time out to get over his recent problems. I really dont care about those events in of themself but it wont assist him in obtaining the respect of the team.

Other than that there isnt too many I would want. I would struggle to support a side that had Stuart or Brian Smith as coach as I dont like coaches that whinge about referees.

yea man utd has money but in saying this they didn't spend anything at the end of last season. They also don't have a salary cap. When you compare it works out the same, there player values are blown out unlike ours.

Sheens has been limited during periods at the Tigers. His first 3 seasons was the stuff of a genius in terms of recruitment (save the odd howler - graham)

However his own retention and recruitment errors since 2005 have limited cash available to an extent.

Signing the likes of Ryan OHara, Sam Harris, John Morris, Corey Payne and co on decent coin were errors he was not forced into. Similarly extending players contracts like Halatau, Mcdonnell and co when they were offering nothing was not a wise move.

true, but also notice how they are all gone now? Besides Fitzhenry, I don't think there is a player left that people can complain about!

I'm not saying you are wrong, in fact you are absolutely correct, but he has also signed quality too - Galloway, Ellis
push it back even further and you find Payten, Prince, Hodgson, Richards

John Morris was a good buy but used incorrectly. Had he been used as a back rower/ back up hooker he would have been ok. He didn't miss a game for the tigers and when he played anywhere but the halves he did pretty good.

Geez saying our system is comparable to that of the EPL. Now I have heard it all.

The systems are nothing alike, the structuring of finances are nothing alike and the concentration of talent pool are nothing alike.

Anyhow if all coaching possibilities were available Neil Henry would be a real consideration as I was a real fan of what he bought to the Raiders during his tenure
