Solomona Faataape #276

Considering Faataape….. my thought is you can’t afford to carry Feledy, Naden, Toa, Saukuru and Faataape all in your top 30.
If AD and Olam are your first choice centres, presuming Olam is fit, then 2 of these guys are all we need. We need to test Toa once fit, make decisions on Saukuru and Feledy, but I have Faataape currently ahead of them. Certainly Naden has shown me enough to know he’s not the answer.
If there is a strong defensive, hard running centre available anywhere to bring into the club then I’d be looking at that as well.
Remember we need to high quality wingers as well IMO.
We got one in Bula. He is certainly not a hard running fullback and you can rely on him to pass to the winger.

Getting better every week at centre. With another preseason he could be a real weapon for us. Hopefully he is re-signed, if he isn’t already.

Poor bugger was put to the slaughter when he was asked go defend on the wing for a few games.

I agree re; the respect for Faataape and the way he has gone about his work this year.
He is listening and he is learning. He is still off the pace compared to the best in his position by a fair way but he is heading in the right direction and I have no doubt he'll get there within the next 2 years.
Certainly worth persisting with.

I've liked him from the start and keeps reminding me of Staggs with his physicality.

He still has a long way to go though, especially in defence. His spacing with the winger and 3rd in is horrible. He's usually too far in and yes Staines made his fair share of errors but as a centre, he needs to control how far the winger and halfback is from him.

I think he's given us more consistency than Starford To'a in his last 2 years.

We need to keep filing our roster with these reliable people who keep producing consistent performances. Reliability is an underrated asset when playing week to week.

As a backup option in the squad sure, he is decent depth player as the first center of choice no thanks.

He sure knows how to sniff a try out, he is very Olam like with his carries.

thought he had his best game yesterday .. although still has some way to go …

I like him as a back end of the roster type moving forward …. Ideally should be only playing a half dozen games a year when the depth is tested …

Said it before and I'll say it again, there is something I like about Solomona and I can see him becoming a real weapon in attack.

Needs to work on his defence, and experience will help him make better choices, like when he bombed a try by not passing to Staines last night.

To his credit or maybe more so luck, he scored himself a few plays later and I thought looked very good doing it.

I know a lot of people are critical of him but I think it is worth persevering with him and he doesn't have to be in first grade every week, but I think he is a keeper if he can be retained on a reasonable contract.

If Faataape is Centre #3 on the roster, we are doing ok. If he's in our top 2 guys, we need better depth. That said, he seems talented enough to outplay & overtake Olam or Doueihi- which is fine. You want guys to win the spot, not be handed it.

Decent backup centre, horrible winger

Would be with keeping him on development again next year

I think he can develop in to a starting centre for sure. He’s already a damaging runner, just needs to improve his strength, get used to the speed of game and improve his defense, but you could say that a fair few players in the team at the moment.

It’s really hard to defend when you’re not as strong as the player you’re marking, especially for consecutive sets on your line. You can see how many of the younger players fall off tackles as the other team gets more ball.

I like him, I like his attitude. He’s only going to get better.

I don't want to waste a roster spot on him . Happy for him to be in the NSW cup team next year see how he progresses . Defensively not up to NRL standard yet. Alot of work to do .

played his best game last night.very determined to bully/finesse his way 2 get up field

I like him. He has good leg speed and he puts his body on the line. As long as he does his job he is worth persisting with unless you can replace him with someone better which is harder than it should be.
