I think it’s fair to say that all the players coming off contract at the end of the year except for McIntyre and Seyfarth should be shown door, besides the two mentioned all the other players have had plenty of time and opportunities to prove their worth to this club...Enough is enough get rid of them Madge.

Wouldn’t mind short, cheap contracts for those 2. Eiso been decent the last couple weeks too and deserving another short contract if we can negotiate at a fair price

In my opinion Eiso should be given his marching orders as well...I think any player that decides to start playing half decent games of football in the last year of his contract isn’t worth the time or money.

A good valid point. He does seem to be more suited to a starting role with big minutes to toil away, as opposed to small stints which he may have had previously. Though I do see the reasoning behind your point. He’s replaceable if he goes, but personally I would be willing to let him stay for a small price.

I just think it’s all a little bit to late from Matt his been with the club for quite sometime now.

Only thing I will say Lily is Matt has improved heaps under Madges coaching...

Right so I think Aloiai is a backrower and potentially a fearsome 80 minute one. I accept him playing prop because he's our best prop and we have better backrowers than props but I hope to see him in the back row eventually.

I think Garner is a good player and if he was a bench player for us it'd be ideal cuz he can play centre.

Hopefully Blore and Uitokamano come on strong next year and Mikaele takes a step so we can see Aloiai in the back row. I'd like to see us sign a veteran forward or two on the cheap to replace the likes of McQueen, Packer etc. Preferably ones that actually plays.

We didn’t have any energy that we had been playing with the last few weeks. We didn’t get rolled. We lost this game Souths didn’t win it. Some stupid errors in our own half, bad defensive calls and just no drive in attack.

Souths are average. For me this is the beginning of the end for Brooks. I've defended the guy since forever. However he's just rarely ever shown a feeling for the moment and tonight is yet another example of this. Against Raiders, Panthers and now Souths he needed to step up and he just didn't. He's an awesome athlete but has little feel for the game and is a reluctant leader. With him in charge we're just not going to be able to compete with the very best teams. He really needs a great, prime 5/8 next to him to justify keeping him.

It’s called Madgeball
But we don’t have the players to play to that intensity each week ..
Then we are let down by brain farts and poor errors ..

I thought Souths played their best game all season on the back of a lot of possession and field position. Similar to last week, our opposition were simply slightly better than us in all positions - their forwards made more ground and were stronger in D, their spine was more creative and productive, their bench added more, and their backs were quicker and slicker than ours.
We on the other hand made too many errors especially in the first half and once again got no joy from the officials. When you combine these two things along with the quality of our team versus the Rabbits squad, the reality is, if they play reasonably well they are going to beat us every time.

Some quick points from tonight:
Benji definitely needs to play
Mbye was rubbish in D
Grant has been great but you can't expect him to be Api or Cooke yet
Our forwards are really trying but we still don't poke through the line or slip a pass away etc
Our edge D is crap and needs immediate attention
Reynolds has added energy and enthusiasm- yes - but IMO little else.
Brooks worst game in a long while.

We were up last week, played with real intensity and grit.
We were flat this week.

That's just classic Tigers

They aren’t up to the mental grind

So on that point, given this has been a problem for so long, I just don’t understand with the rotation of coaches and players we have had why are not a different team? How come we still play the same dumb game?

It’s the same mediocre type players that are rotated .

1 ....Overpriced players looking to top up there super
2 ....Rookies with “potential “ who struggle coming into a weak team
3 ....stop gap players who can’t get a gig anywhere else

Thanks for some very thoughtful assessments here. Off that performance, with all of its flaws, I think there is room for optimism. Twal, Musgrave to come back in the forwards and Joey and Talau in the backs and we are up quite a notch. Personally, very sad about Luke Brooks not progressing. That said, Benji at 7 and Brooks at 6 might be the answer for the remainder of the season and a shot at the 8. Brooks defence and running game are his best attributes and Benji there to manage the games.

Of course our run metres were down we our boys made 65 more tackles than souths in the 1st half, had little ball and when we did have the ball we were coming off our own line. Not to mention the penalty count even in the first 6 minutes we had 3 blown against us.
I really think when nofa went for that intercept if he had dove on the ball instead of toeing it ahead again we would have had momentum.

Even after Nofa’s toe ahead the ball was knocked on by Souths so would have been our ball regardless. We went for the low percentage play and it backfired massively and we dug a big hole for ourselves that we couldn’t get out of.

Rowdy i thought was very good defensively played his guts out and was solid.
Starting props were solid. Aloai really dents the line and oliver is very good defensively

This is a good assessment, Rowdy was very good, and Josh and Oliver done the job, some others though were poor

I think that Madge has got in his ear. Defence has always been good but suddenly he is making some ground and a few post contact metres (before he was making 5 metres and getting pushed back 3 metres). I think he is now a keeper, if only for depth.

Keeper as well good back up forward and better than a few other players off contract - Has played consistent good football since Twal injury.
Then again all about the coin he is on don't think they would be paying him overs?

To me the one consolation was Reynolds mouthing off at Lattrell the whole game.

Unfortunately thats all he had his mind on all game. Needed to forget it and get on with the game. Unprofessional.

Brooks worst game in a long while.

Only been like this for about 5 seasons

I think it shows a few things

1. We lack any real depth both forwards and backs.
2. Our spine does not take charge
3. Captain not leading from example in a crunch game
4. We are thereabouts around the 8 but may fall short again

Off Contract 2020
Oliver Clark, **Matthew Eisenhuth**, Robert Jennings, Chris Lawrence, Benji Marshall, **Sam McIntyre**, Chris McQueen, Alex Seyfarth, Dylan Smith, Elijah Taylor

There are really only 2 players i would keep ME & SM.

Think we should be putting Marshall to H/B this week and giving Walters the 5/8 position and put brooks on notice.

Great unemotional summary of where things sit.
