Thanks for bumping the thread, was starting to  feel bad about taking over the Netflix thread.

Yay guys that was awesome!!
Ngl have rewatched the final sequence at least a dozen times already - that and Chapter 13 were my personal highlights. I can only imagine how amazing it must've felt for anyone who experienced the Trilogy during its original release. You'd surely be feeling a little nostalgic today.
The Mandalorian has totally exceeded all expectations and IMO have done a great job with unifying the true vision of Star Wars. Felt Favreau and Filoni have totally recaptured the essence and magic.
Thanks to whoever shared to watch post credits as in my excitement I completely missed it ?
There's so many questions and I'm gonna completely ignore Kylo Ren... for now, as I'm still feeling all the emotions from the the clan of two splitting up and can't quite deal with that thought just yet.

I think we might find that series like this are the future of the franchise.

Better than the Star Wars 2.0 crap movies that have no new ideas.

No such thing as a crap Star Wars Movie...Even the pre-quels have grown since the Madalorian..

The Phantom Menace is really the only one I struggle with.

Cmon..now this is Pod racing..

The whole franchise is a merch machine

It is now, but the original trilogy was about the movie experience and telling a story. The Empire Strikes Back is still one of the best movie sequels of all time.

No they were merch machines as well. They really showed the way for selling merch around a movie.

All Star Wars merch has outsold all box office sales I think ?
I’m sure I’ll be corrected!

For sure..

George is no dummy..

I so want to see Star Wars land at Disneyland .. apparently they spent 1 Billion dollars ?

We will be going when the US gets their yard in order. Florida has a Star Wars themed hotel. Expensive, but we will be staying there.

Can’t agree. I would have seen all three of the original trilogy films at least a dozen times each at the theatre when they first came out. It was revolutionary film making at the time. As an example Star Wars (it wasn’t called a New Hope when it first came out, that was changed very soon after the initial release once Lucas realised it was going to be a success and further films were possible. Lucas has a habit of re-writing history to suite his narrative) was the first major film to feature Dolby Surround Sound. **The merchandising came later almost as an afterthought.**

The Phantom Menace is an entirely different story, that movie was all about merchandising.

Not quite. Lucas negotiated a merchandise deal with Fox in lieu of a director's fee, he was always confident kids would swarm to the toys. He only received less than a % of merchandise revenue profits initially however when Hasbro bought Kenner they forgot to renew their license in mid 90's and Lucas was able to negotiate a better deal of 18% for himself. This is why he re-made the originals and started writing the prequels, to cash in on the merchandise revenue.
There's a good documentary on Netflix called The toys that made us that covers a lot of this and the struggles Kenner faced when manufacturing the original toys.

I stand corrected. However, at least here in Australia, it wasn’t really a big thing. It grew as the movie success grew and sure there was some but the main focus was always going to see the movie on the big screen. The Phantom Menace was an entirely different story, the whole movie was all about merchandising much to the distain of movie lovers.

I remember the time well. The build up and anticipation until each movie release was unbelievable. It was all about the movie.

I still have the original Star Wars movie program. Yes, you used be able to buy a movie program just like a live theatre program.

The impact the original Star Wars movie was unimaginable, it changed movies forever. It probably is a bit meh now but at the time that first scene with the Imperial Star Destroyer was just indescribable, there had never been anything like it before. The first time you saw it and it was on giant screen, and it just kept coming, many, including me, literally looked over their shoulder in the theatre to see how big this thing was. That sort of impact is rare indeed. 🙂

Then we had to wait for the Empire Strikes Back.... but boy it was so worth the wait.

Only Star Wars toys I own are Lego and sabres I built at various Disneylands.

Have an X-Wing and Z95 headhunter in Lego. I will get my hands on the Millennium Falcon before I kick it (Han is my favourite character.)

Yeah but the series was the 1st to really take advantage of that whole mass merch angle on things. It wrote the guidelines for making money outside the cinema that movies still follow today.

The days of cinema and going to the movies are dead imo especially with all the streaming now available and with covid .

That's alright, in a couple of months I'll have my own cinema.

Will you have Choc Tops?

I did have the pod racing game on nintendo 64 which was pretty cool.

That was the only reason Episode I – The Phantom Menace was made, merchandising.

The whole franchise is a merch machine

It is now, but the original trilogy was about the movie experience and telling a story. The Empire Strikes Back is still one of the best movie sequels of all time.

No they were merch machines as well. They really showed the way for selling merch around a movie.

The merchandising came later almost as an afterthought.

The Phantom Menace is an entirely different story, that movie was all about merchandising.

I will have one too. No choc tops but a popcorn and fairy floss maker.

I loved it when Skywalker obliterated the Dark Troopers without batting an eye...

A Jedi strength flows from the force..

Oh great we’re saved when the single X-wing arrived was a great line

Those were the best parts. Cutting the Dark Troopers to shreds was awesome. Loved how they stopped attacking the blast doors and all turned around when the the X-wing landed.

The single X-wing comment was classic.
