Taylor no longer sole selector

Re selections, I would be very surprised if any NRL coach does not consult his coaching team on picking the team.

You are correct only a fool would believe that they are never wrong. When all is said and done to be a good coach you have to listen as well as be the coach

Buckets being in the box is pathetic. Mayer did it to Potter and now its' happening again. Succeed or fail, he's the coach and it's simply not right to have Oneil looking over his shoulder. If he's not happy, he should pull the lever and have someone else within the organisation take over. I think we're heading for all the wrong headlines again towards season end. Brace yourselves.

The way I see it, the coach should be the one picking the team, obviously this is done by consulting with the football operation staff, but at the end of the day he has to pick the team he wants because he is the one who is going to fall on his sword if the results are bad. If we run bottom four this year do you think Oniel will loose his job..I doubt it

As for the dynamic duo wanting to move the coach on, just maybe if they were in Thurstons league you might listen to what they have to say, but they are two kids who basically should be learning there trade in the lower grades not telling s club who should coach the team

Amen to that.

It's interesting to read the various slants people put on all this info…
People read the same info so differently.
Grain of salt for me thanks

If true I think it is terrible that the football manager is assisting in selecting the team. That is micro managing to the max.

As for the side starting to resemble our top 17, that is definitely a matter of opinion, our strongest 17 is subjective.

Taylor certainly thinks he is selecting his best 17, everyone tries to pick the best side they can.

I cant believe Rankin is under pressure, he has been pretty good this year, if JAC comes in, and I think his performances probably warrant selection, the guy under most pressure should be Kev Naiqama followed by Noffa. That is our biggest weakness.

Yeah i agree.

Yeah O.K Buckets is the GM but just let JT do his job during game day and not fill like his getting recorded with every message his sending the Trainer .
I would be saying to Buckets judge me at Seasons end if you want…...just leave me in Peace .

Unless JT approved Mark O'Neill being in the Coaches Box during Game day cause i would certainly feel uncomfortable .

If a coach is putting his personal opinion ahead of those of all other coaching staff and persisting to pick players that all the others coaches agree aren't up to it, and the player isn't doing well on matchdays, then the GM is right to step in and fix the culture at the club. I'm sure if a coach with a proven record of success were to join the club they might be given more freedom. We're starting from a weak point so need to be fairly open minded about all areas.

The GM is there to ensure the club as a whole is performing as best it can. I doubt O'Niel would be highly involved in the selection process, i would imagine that if there was a strong disagreement between all the coaches over the selections of certain players he might be asked to step in with his opinion. But if the coaches all agreed, or were 50/50 and JT has the final call on close decisions then i imagine that would be fine.

I am way off with my interpretation ot TT s post compared to others. I don't really care to much about how Taylor feels only interested in results.
For whatever reason a decision was made to select the team through consultation and I would assume that was made for good reason.
It seems equally the players are being assessed on their performance - so I see it as the people leading the club taking control personalties and individuals aside in the best interest of the club and team.

If stupid selection policies are impacting on recruitment, retention and player welfare then yes, the GM needs to get involved. If you don't pick people when they deserve to get picked over others then you may lose them. You also make the club look pretty unattractive to other up and comers we may be looking to recruit - why would they want to come here and do their best only to be stuck behind a plodding, entitled incumbent? Flogging guys in the front row for 60 minutes week in week out because you choose to only carry one prop on the bench is also extremely unwise.

I would hate our club to end up like another club where it seemed a star player held the club to ransom…sack the coach or I up and leave. So the club sacked the coach. Thankfully after spending a fortune on players and a new coach, this team is on struggle street...there is a god

Spot on Guys…what value is there in O'Neill being in the coaches box?....Its like when a Managers stands over you looking over your shoulder while you work....most of us feel uncomfortable and a sense of "I'm being judged"...O'Neill should be out wining and dining our Corporates with Pascoe during game days

Interesting we are going to buy David Gower for next year, and we are expected to get top 4\. I don't know who would agree to that kpi.
Why would the club put a kpi for next year when Taylor is off contract?

To get rid of him if they don't think he is up to it. He has a contract for next year.

But the top4 kpi is for next year? He comes off contract at the end of next year, meaning just don't renew his contract

Tigerap I believe you have misunderstood his job role then.

Buckets is not judged on how many sponsors he brings in, his job is head of football operations and he needs to worry about getting results on the field. I would expect him to be heavily involved on game day with all our Coaches + Players, not up in the grandstands sinking booze with the corporates.

Except for the spending a fortune on players and the new coach it is us.

Or perhaps he's just learning on the job. Seeing first hand how our coaching staff manage game day scenarios, communicate with one another, the bench, runners etc. It's totally within his role to be in the box when he wants to be. He manages the football operations of the club for goodness sake! How do you do that if you're always gobbling down prawn sandwiches with sponsors?

Should he be getting on the walky talky giving tactical instructions to players? No. And I'd be fairly sure he isn't (though of course i'm not in the box to no for sure..!) Pretty sure i've seen him elsewhere during games too. Down on the bench, walking around the stadium etc.

Pascoe shouldn't be in the box too often. He manages the off-field part of the club. O'Neil is different.

Yep, perhaps I have misunderstood his role…I thought as GM of Football he would be spending time dancing with the corporates....
