Team v Roosters trial

Egan Butcher really needs to get away from Trent Robinson. He gets used as battering ram despite having concussion issues, being under sized for that role and having a skillset that is best suited playing much different. The Roosters have always neen pretenders when it comes to player welfare

Seems like Craig is down the pecking order as expected even tho top 30
What’s your thoughts of Sione being in these matches?
No idea really. It could be to provide this team with some experience in the middle or perhaps he has dropped down the pecking order over pre-season training. Don't know why Bunty Afoa was played for 70 mins in the Cup trial last week either.

I just hope to see some good well rehearsed attacking plays in the red zone
Some solid defense ...minimal errors though this stage of the year theyre to be expected
I hope we play as a team and not like last year where players were basically ignored (Latu)
No injuries

Someone mentioned Luke Jack hitting hard last week....interesting

Anyone got any info on him?

Although it’s always nice to win, we really just hope to see a couple of lesser profile or younger emerging players stand up and be counted and show signs tthey are capable of playing more regular NRL sooner than later.
We want Jock Madden to take plenty of control and demonstrate a good kicking game, we want Tristan Hope to play tough and tackle like a demon, we want young Makasini to show a few more glimpses of his quality, we want Heath Mason to get back to his form from late 2024 when he was playing very well as our NRL filll in for Jahream, we want Sione to demonstrate his quality and show why almost all of us are scratching our heads as to why there is uncertainty about him being in our top 17.
I’m interested to watch Luke Laulilli rip and tear, intersted to see if his brother Kit have a red hot crack and push his claims for NRL selection, interested to see if Patrick Herbert will be at his aggressive best, interested to see if Tino Tavana will make the most of his opportunity and interested to see how all our younger and less experienced players, particularly the forwards go.
I'm with you on all that.

It is a huge opportunity for our senior guys Jock Madden, Triistan Hope & Sione Fainu to stand up and lead us around the paddock.

And yep would be nice for a change if one or more of our youngsters can put their name in lights with some starring plays ... Makasini, Haywood, Andrews, Godinet, Tavana especially.

And maybe a few to surprise us with their development over the pre-season!

Yeah that was me. Seriously every tackle he made last week was jarring and a couple forced handling errors. He goes in to hurt like Trevor Gillmeister.

Jack was a former Qld U19 rep back in 2022 at lock from memory.

Signed with us last year and played a lot of the Cup season at backrow. I thought he was ok but did miss a lot of tackles in Cup.

He's an all-effort solid backrower, just ok in attack as he's not overly big but it's his defence and workrate that he is known for. And last week he was very impressive albeit against a 2nd string Newcastle Cup team.

If we are going to basically run out 2 teams on Saturday (1 in 1st half, 1 in 2nd half), this is how our 2nd half team could line up.

I only suggest this as that is what happened in the NSW Cup trial last weekend.

Thats a lot of HB options (with Madden | Mason | Andrews) but I get it.

I see plenty of upside in Luke Jack with his effort plays and toughness.
He is too small to make it as an edge back rower, so hopefully we acknowledge that and play him as a 13 / 9 where the effort plays and toughness can be very valuable.

I reckon it is just about getting minutes in the legs for some of these boys. I guess we will know more for sure over the coming weeks.

Agree. As the games gets faster. There is plenty of opportunities for these type of players in the middle. Especially if they can play play a bit

Maybe just giving Bunty a run last week as he needed one (and not this week as they want him on the main squad for the next trial).

I did hear from someone who lives in the area where Bunty was staying that they saw Bunty arriving home as they were getting to work in the morning! Not what I wanted to hear

Are you referring to Nat Butcher who is smaller than Egan and has a bit more skill. I think both have had some concussion issues
