THE 4......THREAD

Brooks stated that he is excited by the thought of learning under Cleary and that he agrees he hasnt been playing to his best standard as of late. That's what you want from a young player, someone who is ready to grow into their potential.

I used to think he didn't do much but looking back on some of the great stuff he is capable of I think he might turn out to be a real asset going forward.

Only reason Brooks signed is he had no other options elsewhere, otherwise he too would have been on the "bus" leaving Concord.
The whole recruitment policy over the last 3 years has been a debacle. Woods has been a lone hand in the front row for a couple years. Taylor alone can't be held responsible for the shambles that recruitment and retention has been.club hierarchy has a lot to answer for. A strong leader somewhere in the boardroom or football operations would've been able to limit the damage!

Gee i hate it when people bag out Brooks, it's disrespectful to call him a DUD, i hope he makes you eat your words and becomes a premier half…hate your post 'sporthead'...maybe your name should be '****head' instead.

I rate Moses much higher than Brooks.

Moses can cover 3 positions and to me is much more of a leader than Brooks. Just me.

Was hoping we would keep Moses/Teddy

Geez the mentality of some people these days is nuts. Something bad happens in a hospital and everyone wants the health minister immediately sacked. Something bad happens at a footy club and the whole board needs to be sacked. Mindlessly lopping off figure heads for things that happen that are ultimately out of their control is not accountability, it is stupidity.

The board and CEO should resign or be sacked. Brooks was the only player out of the "Big Four" that if lost to another club would not have impacted us that much IMO, yet this dud is the only one we managed to secure. Moses gone, teddy gone, Woodsy gone… half a dozen others will probably follow suit as the club made these guys a priority for negotiations.
We have to rebuild this club almost from scratch now as we are losing some big big players. May as well do it right and get a new board and CEO too otherwise this circus will continue for years to come.

I really cant see how the Board/CEO are to blame for this mess we found ourselves in.

The CEO tabled Board approved offers to the 4 back in October last year…The offers were very competitive and not much different to the revised offers they recently tabled.

The 4 players and their management from October on wards strung the CEO and the Club along without any inkling to commit....Thinking they were stalling due to the Coach (JT), the CEO and Board sacked JT as soon as they could, just to appease these 4...And if you recall Woods was leading the chorus that he wanted to know the direction of the club before signing...so the Board and CEO sacked JT and appointed the respected Ivan Cleary for the next 3.5 years....(Direction that Woods was seeking!)...but obviously that was never going to appease these 4 or be good enough.....cause all along their only objective was to string along the WT, create all this media hype about where they will sign and end up...to the point of getting the other clubs interested in tabling a mammoth offer...

So folks as you can see the big 4 have intentionally strung the WT along with no intentions of ever signing with us....if only the WT put a deadline on March 1 on the October offers, then this thing would not have played out in the media as it has...

i wouldn't call him a dud, i think he was stifled and misguided. I think Cleary and the absence of Moses will help his game.

Either way he is with us and wanted to be with us so kudos to him.

If there is an upside in this then maybe the team will bond and play as a team going forward as the bulk of the prima donnas may move on ? Given that the potential they had and failed to deliver any real consistency on field leaves me with mixed emotions that perhaps this is the best move for the Club with the new coach. At least we wont have to worry about Teddy's knees and Jaw in future if this happened.

Brooks stayed and Cleary will take this kid to a new level , Cleary gets the best out of players who want to learn from him , we just need some big nasty front rowers and a hard running back rower to come on board along with a decent 5/8

Brooks IMO was the weakest of the "big 4". I hope he proves me wrong too! I'm not death riding the team. I think its very poor management when you make 4 blokes a priority for retention and only end up signing the "weakest" out of the 4!

Like most of you, I agree that Luke Brooks has the opportunity now to become an Elite Halfback and lead this team out of this mess.

I also believe that Brooks always wanted to stay as he is a true tiger at heart not like his other 3 mates.
I believe his manager tried to push for him to leave.

The article below sticks in my mind:

Should he perform as predicted, Brooks will have little choice but to adjust. As a level headed and polite teen, there's no reason why he won't. Just as there was no reason for him to even contemplate testing the open market when the Tigers offered a three-year extension midway through last season.

"He was not driven by money, not at all," Jeff reveals. "He said at the time, 'Dad, I don't really care what they offer, I just want to play for the Tigers'. He's always dreamed of playing for them, and there's a bit of destiny about it because he loved Tigers so much as a very young child."

The dud one what are you smoking behind Tedesco he's the one i think we should have retained the most. The kid has been beside the egomaniac Moses for the past 2 years not helping his game, plenty of experts have said they dont work together i think thats pretty clear.

TBH i dont think his manager looked after him as well as the other three i get the feeling he threw him under the bus rather than on it, id be looking for a new manager if i was him. Im not saying he shouldnt have signed im saying he could have gotten him more but he's seen as the "dud" of the four but i think given the right partner he could really become a cracking player and live up to that potential we all saw those years ago

Any chance you can provide some reasons why you believe Brookes is a dud compared to Moses ?

Mate, the recruitment policy has been to retain the big 4\. We moved on players of the calibre of Robbie Farah and Blake Austin to let these big 4 develop and run the team. Then we fail to sign 3 out of the four! Its one thing to lose players when you're going to be over the cap, but if you're entire plan is based on building a team around four blokes and you fail to sign three of them then what???
There's got to be accountability and it starts at the top!

Brooks ain't a dud. I would have him in the team ahead of the other three any day of the week. He want go be there the others don't.

Mate, ultimately I think if you believe Brooks is better than Moses than I don't think there's too much I can say that will change your mind. Its a personal opinion thing.
I think Moses has proven himself far more consistent than Brooks. Brooks tends to go missing in parts of some games I've seen and you can see Moses tries to step up to compensate. Maybe that's also a reflection of the leadership qualities of the 2 blokes. To me Moses demands the ball more than Brooks. I think they're both equally as bad as each other in defence.
I just think Moses in a shorter period of time has shown a lot more promise than Brooks. Brooks came on the scene a year or so earlier but has never in my opinion lived up to the potential that was thought of him.
I gues the other barometer would be the contract size. Tigers were reportedly offering Moses $4m for 4 years whereas Brooks reportedly agreed to $1.1m for 2 years.

Mate, that argument would only hold water if there was a queue of clubs waiting to sign him and he chose to stay with Tigers. He's had a contract on the table for over 12 months and only signed last week (presumably after there was no interest shown elsewhere).

I'm happy that Brooks is staying, now that his contract is finalized he can concentrate on fulfilling his potential, if he can.

The others…what can you do, we now have money in the bank to chase some decent 1st graders and there is plenty on the market. With a clean-out and maybe a decent attitude moving forward we may still be very competitive in the years to come.

But the time to start building a culture is NOW.....

Pity we let Austin & TM Martin go to accommodate Moses.....thanks for nothing pal.

I think you should rephrase some of your spiel - "big 3 " towards the end at least.

"So folks as you can see the big 4 have intentionally strung the WT along with no intentions of ever signing with us"

Brooks was one of the "big 4" and he signed.
