This is what happens when you offer massive incentives to blokes to carry on

Clarke was supposedly getting a 6 figure amount if we retained the Ashes

He should of retired full stop after the World Cup

Bloody Wests Tigers supporters , you just can't trust them

Is he? Well deserved if that's the case.

Aussies will lose ground off SA after this series. Currently 14 points off and will be even more after a series defeat of 3 or 4-1\. Given the amount of Test Cricket from now to Xmas, they could drop further if teams behind them win. There's Tests series galore, as someone who loves Test cricket, I can't wait. Out of curiosity, how long has it been since the Aussies were ranked as the no 1 test nation? Would have to be at least 5 yrs I'd have thought.

AB is still the worlds best batsman though. I'd take him over anyone. Only lost top spot because he missed the Bangladesh tour because his missus had a baby. Not that he would have done much anyway as a monsoon washed out the entire series.

They were number 1 just over 12 months ago believe it or not. I remember thinking how ridiculous it was that RSA had basically lost one series in two years and lost the top spot to the Aussies. Didn't last much more than a month or so from memory. The cricket ranking system is pretty dubious if you ask me.

Clarke passes the buck and gets too defensive when questioned. The Richie Cunningham disposition that he's always tried to hide behind quickly disappears. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if he's neer been liked in the dressing room.

Yeah , when he lost the Toss in the current Test match and interviewed on the pitch and was asked
" so what would have you done if you won the toss Michael " ? he's reply was along the lines " it doesn't matter we are batting " , i just thought to myself what a complete tosser 😱pen_mouth: , your Captain responding like that . He knew right there he was doomed as the smart choice would have been to bowl 1st as History would tell you .

Ponting was the same late in his career towards the media when he knew the knives were out. The difference with Ponting though, he never tried to pass himself off as somebody he wasn't, unlike this personality fraud whose made a career out of making himself look like butter wouldn't melt . Biggest arse kisser in the history of Australian cricket. And that's something i've been saying for a long time, not just saying it to kick him while he's down.

On a personal level I've never cared for Clarke much at all. But he held the Australian cricket team together for two or three years when during its worst period for 20 years. Without him things would have been much worse between 2009 and 2013.

You don't average 50 for over a decade then lose your ability overnight. Hes been out of form for a while but I reckon he'd still be one of the 3 best batsmen in the country. But at his age and life situation (new family, bad back, just won the World Cup, can't play another ashes etc) he would have had no motivation to play on so its probably the right decision.

This leaves the Aussies in a predicament. We have good young fast bowlers but there are literally 4 or more batting spots open and blokes like Shaun Marsh averaging low 30s over a 4 year career vying for spots. Steve as if can't average 100 forever and if we can't find some new batsmen soon we'll be in trouble for a few years.

Have you ever lived in Aus Halifax? Just wondering how you came to support Wests Tigers as an Englishman.

I'd assume the same way Aussies who've never lived overseas follow EPL, NFL teams etc.

Haha

….................................

Australia coach Darren Lehmann has found out just how cruel social media can be after asking for tickets to the Stoke City versus Liverpool Premier League game on Twitter.

Lehmann, obviously with some downtime after Australia's embarrassingly short fourth Test defeat at the hands of England tweeted the following:

"Would like to go to Stoke v Liverpool with a couple of people anyone help? @stokecity or @LFC can you please retweet."

And down came the ire from the Twitterverse as cricket fans gave it to the Australian coach over the poor Ashes campaign and what he supposedly should be doing.

"Aren't you playing tomorrow........oooops sorry," tweeted Anthony Dutton

"You should be reviewing how you lost the #Ashes2015 to one of the worst English side in history," fired in Dave Kinsella.

There were of course a couple of quips about Ben Stokes along the way.

"Surely you've had enough of Stokes??" said Andrew J Walker

"Maybe better off analyzing Ben Stokes not Stoke City," tweeted Matt Laing.

Perhaps the most stinging and accurate rebuke came from a punter who suggested the Aussie team could learn a lot from Stoke, a side known for being resolute, dull, even unlikely to try and entertain the fans.

"Probably not the best timing to be sending out a tweet like that, maybe take the team with u to learn their defensive game," tweeted Brent McGrath.

Much like his team in the first innings at Trent Bridge, Lehmann simply couldn't let the quips go through to the keeper.

"Thanks so much for the abuse, was asking a question that people might help. Don't bother now! Thanks again people for being so abusive."

Yep, what was he thinking? He was odds-on for those replies.

He just needs to grow a pair.

Geez for a knockabout bloke he's got a thin skin.

Obviously the team that pride themselves on mentally breaking down the opposition are mentally broken down themselves.

Well I'd imagine they'd be able to handle some banter then.

Clearly not.

I think its also worth pointing out how respectful the English have been towards Clarke since his announcement. I have my doubts whether we would have been the same if Cook was the one who retired after being humiliated the way Clarke was. I'm sure there would have been a lot of chest beating if was the other way around.

Another interesting stat that has never really been mentioned. Clarke has lost 4 Ashes series in England, 2 as captain.
