The Ashes

Smith giving a masterclass
Khawaja struggling but records a fighting 50
Aussie bowlers stole a good 100 runs from the poms this morning.

Daylight between Smith and the rest of the batters in this ashes series. I just wonder how he would have gone against a real class attack, but I guess he seems to be able to do it against all the attacks running around these days, so maybe he would also have some success against a West Indies class attack.

One thing for sure, the Poms lack a spinning option, even if it is just to add some variety.

I think he would have done exactly as he is currently. He looks like an extraordinarily annoying batsman to bowl to as he has a kitbag of unorthodox shots he can use in every situation. People talk about Kohli but he is inconsistant compared with our bloke. He is something special.

lol @ Poms going for a review that would have remained not out..called for a no-ball anyway..

KP having nightmares..

Double Century for Smudge…All Class..

Now unleash hell on the Pommy pretenders...

There is 9 overs to go . Marsh is about to explode and cart the ball over the fence. Hobbo's been quite today…must have had a function on.

Is Smudger Smith becoming a Boycott and becoming single minded with his batting or is he like Steve Waugh and becoming the most ruthless captain/batsmen in the game. I thought last session it was time to hit the after burners rather than try and grind them into the dirt, but test cricket is a unique game, and after watching the likes of Border and Waugh I know what Smith is trying to do. I just thought it was time to blow them apart and shatter anything they had left

He's batted for over a day brought up his double ton in a smidge over 300 balls..maybe he was knackered..Marsh might have been able to go a bit harder but still he's there on 180not..

We lead by 146 after resuming the day still 200 behind…346 runs in a day is not bad clip.. the 1st hr tomorrow will reek havoc on the Poms...

I think Smith is his own man but definitely in the Waugh mould..

Smitty knows what he is doing. He wasnt going to give the poms the satisfaction of his wicket today.
They were dominantly on top after day 1\. After day 3 it appears they can not win. In fact it is entirely possible we'll do them by an innings. If that happens, theyll break and be whitewashed for the 3rd time in 11 years.

4-1

Another highway at the WACA

There was enough in the pitch when the bowlers can bowl at over 140kms.

The BBC made a podcast yesterday on the batting techniques of Smith and Bradman. Interesting listening.

Smith as usual was impressive, but he was up against the worst Pom attack to come down under since the first fleet and that probably highlights how bad the other bats are going bar M Marsh. Said it before the first test, there are two average batting sides on display bar Smith and one very average bowling attack, to counter that there is one very very good bowling attack.

I know all you can do is beat the mob your up against, but this ashes series is leaving me flat

Overall Anderson and Broad are up there with England's best ever bowlers. However they do relie on conditions to assist them. something has gone very wrong for them on this tour. Broad is bowling well below his top speeds and Anderson isn't moving the ball at all. The Aussies have more sideways movement than Anderson. Don't know if it's age, conditions, fitness or mental disintegration…but they aren't putting anything in for their captain. Their whole team is lacking energy.

When I refer to the pom attack as being average, Iam talking about them as a unit. Individually there are some good bowlers, but as a unit they are weak. They lack a strike bowler and a spinner and that is why they are struggling. Bowling on Australian wickets you need at lot more than line and length to get 20 wickets

Tigerdon, You hit it on the Head, The Poms attack isnt up to scratch. Take them away from the Old Dart & they struggle, also i thought some of them gave up yesterday.
