Sure sounds like the coach has to go, as having a heap of players liking the direction the coach is taking is just so not WT.
How on earth can you notice a "good culture change" if you have only been at the club for 1 day?He should have said "the culture of the club seems fine".I am sure Fluffy the cat would believe it but i dont.
No more mediocrity no more excuses
I Can't see how the cultures changed.
We still lose when it matters, we still get the avalanche of fluff stories about how the team has bought into the Coaches plans before the season. (I don't think that there has ever been a team who wasnt buying into the coaches plans, seeing as he picks the team).
We still hear how player x is training the house down, (only to not hear another squeak from him once there's a defence in front of him ). Or a forward running at him.
They can paint us up like a Christmas tree, but we still are perennial also rans.
And a lot of things will have to align for us to be any threat,
A good coach is one of them , and we are far from having one.
Our "culture " is mediocrity, and we do it well.
I feel sorry for Teddy at times, as he's one bloke who deserves a better coach and in some cases better players around him.
Are you one of those people who get annoyed by the "fluff pieces"? Surely that's not a line of criticism for the club, every club does the fluff media nothing-stories to keep the brand mixed up in the news.
It's not like fans would be happy if the club came out and said "we are aiming to be mediocre this season, like we really are" and then stay happy when we turn out to be as mediocre as we predicted.
Regarding culture, don't get me wrong, the Tigers still have major weaknesses but surely everyone can see that the culture has been modified over time, for good or ill?
For example we used to be known as a powerhouse attacking unit, the "entertainment" club, which has kind of fallen away in recent years. We used to be a club with a fair amount of off-field indiscretions, and now we are fairly clean-skin.
With the move of Farah, I would also predict we are going to see a continued decrease in the number of leaked / insider comments coming from the club, ever since the days of the likes of Beau Ryan, Benji, Robbie, Anasta who all had fairly high media profiles and opportunities to shoot their mouth off.
Last year we had 3 Origin reps which I don't think we've ever managed before, we also have a consistent starter for Australia, so we have rep-level experience that we've not really had before.
We beat the Cowboys late last year in a really terrific game of football, and that game mattered a lot, so it's not true to say we always lose when it matters. Every team that doesn't win the comp has a history of losing when it matters most.
Even the idea that Farah got the chop "before his time" shows that the culture has indeed changed in some ways, that players like Benji and Robbie are moved on when the club thinks it is time, even if there is a ruckus over it.
So it is true that a lot of things need to align for us to be a threat, but that is true of most teams.
What I do agree on is that Tigers have usually lacked power. Not really size, we've had plenty of big men, but we've rarely fielded the truly powerful players. We had Marty Taupau for a while, and Dane Laurie was a real handful when he was on the paddock for 6 months, Ellis and Dwyer back in the golden 10-11, but we've typically lacked the consistent high-impact footballer who terrorises the defensive edges. Lack of power has meant we can stretch defenses but don't hurt them much, and in our own defense we scramble ok (esp on our line the last season or two), but we struggle to stop momentum esp from the opposition pack or big centres.
I believe that's the reason why we often struggle against the bigger sides like Raiders, Panthers, Dogs but do pretty well against the structured sides like Cowboys and Storm. But even that being said, Raiders hammered us last year, and have won 4 of the last 5 against us, but prior to that we won 10 out of 11.
