Cool story but it doesnt take into consideration that at the time he left Tedesco was still our Fullback.

I agree it is so easy to be Monday morning quarterback!

Not really...people like you and I are 'fans' and entitled to be Monday's experts (a great song BTW)

But others like Egan are paid big money to get these things right...watch film...know what they are doing. He took Dylan Smith from Cronulla's system I believe and banked three years of dev money on a kid who played ZERO mins of NRL before being cut. We tried multiple FBs, yet never once considered Smith for a run. That is a massive error of judgement and one we will pay for a long time. Compounded massively by missing out on what we had.

Again, it all is relevant as it helps explain 'why' we are where we are and 'what challenges' Madge has been left burdened with...

At the time he left, Papenhuyzen development was blocked by Tedesco. It is ridiculous to suggest that the Tigers (or Egan) chose to develop Dylan Smith over Papenhuyzen. Paps left because at the time his progress was blocked by the best fullback in the world.

Every man and his dog knew Tedesco was gone. Minichello was shouting it. He had already left once. This is what a recruitment manager does mate, he sees what is likely to happen and plans. Saying 'we had Tedesco' is naive IMO.

The kid went to a Storm team that had the GOAT there 'and' three other really highly rated FB prospects. He was as blocked there as anywhere...

He went to a Storm team that had the GOAT there for 1 year. Long enough to learn from and then get a crack. At the Tigers he was behind the next best who was still young and probably had 10 years ahead of him. IMO saying 'Egan is a moron and made a decision to develop Dylan Smith over Paps' is simplistic and small minded.

But you seem very set in your own importance and think you are right over all others. Not sure why you would bother to start a thread when your opinion is the only correct one and any counter opinion is 'naive'. Enjoy your thread........mate.

He was miles down the pecking order at the Storm. That is not my opinion, it is a fact.

My opinion is often wrong, thus the thread. If I did not want other opinions I would not start a thread in a forum...

Apologies if 'naïve' upset you. I could have chosen a better word.

Doesnt matter Josh. We must lament ***eternally!!!!***

We must also start new threads for each lament and state that THIS ONE is the reason we still suck, even though the cause of the lament no longer exists.

The legacy does still exist though. Systematic failure takes a long time to recover from. In a way I am answering my own questions re Madge long term. Considering this stuff, I feel like he deserves at least one 'cycle' of his own dev players.

When will it end ??

Papenhuyzen was a Parra junior. Was Egan responsible for pinching him and bringing him to Tigers?

Expanding the topic...let's look at the whole Kelly Egan 'era'.

I, and most of you, blame Cleary...but when you examine it, Egan is almost as much to blame.

Who let go Tevita Tatola, Nathan Brown?....we seem to let go champs and recruit chumps in their place....our recruitment and retention the last 8 years had been diabolical

First i heard of this, I always thought he was a Tigers junior. He was definitely a Tigers under 16s rep.

Parramatta said he was too small so he never made their reps sides ..had a few mates at Balmain so went their..

One of two Oakhill College boys playing first grade NRL at the moment. The other is Luke Keary. Not a bad pair.

Yep, so he always wanted to go to Storm, Storm offers him a Contract (no idea of value), he had Teddy in front of him at Tigers.....but the REAL reason that he isnt still a Tiger is because Egan preferred Dylan Smith over him......ok, makes sense.

Yeah my son knew Luke as well but he is a couple of years older. Oakhill have had pretty good sides for a few years now, particularly in Union. Good school.

Yeh, 3 of my 4 boys went there. The 4th didn't want to go because our 2nd didn't endear himself to the brothers and he thought his name would be mud before he even started. Was a bit of a wild child was our number 2.

I know its all the rage to assume that everything we do is rubbish, but Im not sure I'd have Paseka in our pack. Who would you leave out for him? I think he is potentially a better player than Garner i guess and the Huth but very different players. Paseka is high(ish) impact in small doses but low work rate.

....anyway...Tatola, Brown, Paseka, Papenhuyzen...if only we had a thread where we could ***[lament](https://weststigersforum.com/topic/30065/the-wests-tigers-lament-thread)*** all of these players being let go....

Have you watched Paseka lately? Dudes been killing it.

We have bad habit of letting go of young props who end up going good. Prop is a hard position to master most of them don’t start playing their best footy until they’re a bit older

No, the oldest finished in 1993 and the third finished in 2005, well before Pap went through. I think the youngest played rugby with Keiran Jack (Garry's son). Keiran was a pretty fair player I believe who could have gone on with it if he hadn't played AFL.
