I did not realise until today that Papi was the first Balmain junior to receive the CLive Churchill Medal. I hope one day a Blockbuster movie is made of Papi’s incredible rise above adversity, and in the face of constant negative criticism. Tremendous courage by the young man.

Surely @Pawsandclaws gets a role in this movie...

Paws will be the star - Paps has a non speaking part. Lol

Btw in case people had forgotten, that play by paps to keep the ball in is not the first time he had done it,
In fact he did it against us last year, if you rewatch the highlights of that game

Worth mentioning I think - He is also not the first or only player to have ever done it either.

He also went close to breaking Powell’s long jump record. Lol

I reckon you could some this thread up rather succinctly by saying in regard to the Papenhuyzen decision for Paps himself it was the correct one.
We can lament all we like but he seems a great kid, great talent and will have a long career with the Storm if he wants.
As far as the decision for the Wests Tigers regarding the Papenhuyzen decision, there are no guarantees that Papenhuyzen would have enjoyed the same start to his career if he stayed with us and became our full time fullback.

Yep it would like roosters claiming They made Tedesco.

Storm made. Papz who he is which should be the story

A lot of success is built because of people being told what they can’t do. Often seen as a challenge they can’t walk away from. As such, it is possible that the true catalyst for Papi’s success lies first and foremost with Eels and WT.

You are aware that the Storm were shopping Paps last year?

Sideline strictly near the sign which states 'no entry past this point'.

I suppose you want an honourable mention for Storm..ok you got it. They shopped Drinky as well. I don’t really know, but I wonder why they kept him? Did he do a David Bradbury? Or did Cammy have a word to Bellamy? Or was he last man standing?

Nobody else wanted him, so they had to keep him.

It happens - look at Reynolds, Packer, Mbye.

Happens to the best of us.

I purposely haven't read this thread as the title seems to imply there was a decision to be made here by WT.

As I have said numerous times (and I am close to the him/fam) - and directly from Ryan's mouth - there was no decision to be made by anyone other than Ryan. He was off contract and Melbourne approached him. He was always going to Melbourne to play under Slater and Bellamy - NO decision needed and there was definitely nothing WT could have done about it - other than paying him Tedesco money which may have changed his mind though unlikely and which obviously wasn't going to happen.

There is no fault here from WT end - other than maybe extending him 12 months earlier to avoid the poach but lets be realistic, at that time he was barely on anyones radar.

It turned out well for him and for the Storm but he also admits he was a hairs breath away from leaving the storm last year if there were any takers - from anyone - and there was NO interest.

Lets all move on

Precisely the point that I made a few days ago on this thread. Paps went to Storm with the attraction of individual coaching from Billy Slater. Now you can choose to ignore this failure in our ability to bring on young talent or ram it home to those who can do something about it.
We lost Tedesco for the same reason. Grant was happy to move from Qld to Vic for the same reason. Latrell Mitchell was happy to move to Souths for the same reason. Flanagan was happy to move to the dogs for the same reason. There’s an undeniable pattern of evidence that we’re ignoring as a club.
A player wants to improve his skills, ply his craft by reaching its apex, by reaching his full potential. Only a fool doesn’t learn from past mistakes.

Yeh, someone should tell him it’s time for him to move on. Lol

Vossy on SEN is giving it to us aswell saying we didn't try hard to keep him, given Fitler had Paps in Blues and under 18's sides

They are all keyboard warriors with hindsight. This is the reply i sent them.

Whats with this " let go ". They were off contract and chose to go elsewhere. Addo Carr did the dirty on Wests when he signed with Melbourne without giving Wests the opportunity to put a new contract to him. JAC openly states that he did dirty on Wests. Paps left because he was stuck behind Tedeso and openly states he always wanted to play for Melbourne. And Tedesco was just a scumbag - strung Wests along for 6 months then signed elsewhere by which time Paps had gone. But het lets just make up a story that suits the narrative. Oh and by the way Parra let Paps go as well and Melbourne were shopping him around only 2 years ago and had no takers.

Fittler is a walking advertisement for the dangers of using illegal substances.A combination of a riff boy with a bondi influence

Parra never "let Paps go". He played junior league in their district but never junior reps there. He was a Balmain Junior.

Paps was not signed hence he was let go by the club admittedly we did not know tedesco would do the dirty on us

He wasn’t let go. We offered him the same as Melbourne did, he thought he was blocked by Tedesco here so he chose to go to Melbourne as Slater was close to retirement. He states this himself.

He was a balmain junior that went to Oakhill college and played union for them and league for balmain, Luke Kerry also went to oakhill.

Sigh. Parra didn't "let" Paps go - he actually never got a look in there as HE WAS TOLD directly by Parra he was too small etc and wouldn't make it in their rep program - hence why he shifted from Kellyville/Hills Bulls to Dundas and got a go with the Tigers junior development teams...... during this time he was playing Union at Oakhill when rl allowed.
