The Storm Rorting Super Thread.....

Out of curiosity, If any players (especially key players) are found to have known they were receiving under the table payments that were not declared, what will happen to them?

Also, will these players now be selected in rep teams with this cloud over the club atm?

Wowzers…. they're stuffed.......... indefinately.

There's rotten apples all over that tree - Heads will roll and rightfully so. I'am still bloody amazed that the NRL made an example of the team who's major financial backing is also the major stakeholder in NRL as a whole.

Thank heavens these independent auditors - Shubert? I think - were given the job. Sounds like they were thorough and uncompromising.

That Waldron bloke is gonna be under siege - whoever is behind the fraudulant accounts keeping is rotten to an almost pshychopathic degree - Every player, fan, member coach and staff - for every other club - is gonna want answers for the last couple of years.

IIf they're coach and captain were in the know - they're finished for the forseeable future I reckon.

I don't think this issue will hurt the game as much as some people have said. It will hurt the Storm no doubt, but the NRL and rugby league will recover in time. It always does.

I feel sorry for the fans and the innocent parties. I imagine their feelings would be very hollow and just outright disgust. For those in the know, they should be cut from the game for life; whether they are player managers, players, administrators or coaching staff.

Well done to David Gallop, Ian Schubert and the rest of the NRL team for catching and the punishment handed down. The no points for the Storm issue will mean empty games but they are over the cap. Clubs need to be discouraged from cheating the cap and the game. Hopefully the drop-kicks from the Storm are attacked and not the Salary Cap itself. Whether you agree with the Salary Cap, it is there and you must obey it.

gallop and co made the right decision IMO
im just wondering what will happen to the storm
just recently theyve got a new stadium built i dnt think they will even get 8k at the matches so hw the hell are they going to make revenue off it ??
the storm supporterss are most likely going to convert to afl or the new rugby team now
real problems in melbourne :S

Agree to disagree then. Fans are the most important thing in the game, and scrubbing their team off the face of the earth for a season would do more harm than good.

all 12,000 of them?

Thats hardly fair Ron. Look at the end of the day, they still have fans and I feel sorry for them the most. I also feel sorry for MacDougall, Tolman, Tandy, Hinchcliffe and to a lesser extent the mid-tier players who probably arent directly contributing to the breach.

Would you happily wipe out a side and alienate as your example, say 12,000 fans, and future growth through those fans and their children. That is still detrimental to the game. The hardest thing for the game is that by the NRL establishing some authority over such a blatant rort of the system, the game and their lifeblood, the fans, must suffer for the interim to make point that abuse of the game and the rules it puts in place are not to be trifled with.

Do I agree with the punishment? Yes I do. Do I agree that the Storm shouldn't be in contention for the premiership this year? Yes I do. Should the Storm be punted? No, because you punt their fans, the sponsorship and exposure for the game as well.

I have a simple solution.

They lose their points so far.

They are 700k over, then they have to shed 700k worth of players.

Their points count for the rest of the year.

All I was saying is that the logistics of wiping the Storm for the season is more complex than just having byes each week. There has been a lot of planning and commitment that needs to upheld if League is to maintain its foothold in the big wide world of sports. This has probably already damaged beyond repair RL in Victoria, and as much as NSWians might cheer, professional sports like ours need to widen the catchment. SA and WA have already proved failures.

I think, to be ccompletely honest, the Storm will use this to their advantage and blood a lot of juniors this year.

Which, whilst good for the future of the game in Victoria, is also better for the rest of the comp, meaning we are now up against a less potent Storm team. And the fact they are barely playing for pride for the next 5 months would also make them a weaker side to play against.

As much as I'd love to give the NRL credit, there's that lingering feeling they didn't really do their job.

I mean, it's been happening for 5 years, and it took a whistle-blower to uncover it all.

Makes you think how much longer it could've gone on for…

Whistle blowers usually do un-cover this sort of stuff. When people don't talk and know how to cheat the system, it isn't unto one of those cheaters is cheated themselves that these things come out.

Steve Price was directly implicated in both the Dogs & Warriors rorts - yet he is an alleged ornament to the game!

PS - Ron - you are a deadset moron!

i think itll just be normal with each game worth the two but if the storm win they dont get them simple as that. sure some teams get the advantage of playing them twice but that is all that can happen

hahah, bellyache claims neither himself, the players or the footbal staff knew anthing of the SC rort!!!

Reason they are still playing - Tv rights, ground bookings, sponsorship commitments etc.
It isn't that easy just to "sack" the team for 2010.
But Cronk may look for somewhere to hang out???

well i guess every other team should suffer because of the corporate dollar for melbourne

it's not just melbourne. There would be a lot more people/ companies who would b out of pocket including the teams that are supposed to host them for the rest of the season.

The players getting the doggy payments, the coach and 90% of the club would have known and now they have been blown out of the water. Time to move on, lets get the Central Coast bears up and running

Well how about stripping the points from Storm for this year AND strip the points from the teams that beat them, then write off future games against them and have the club/players or whoever else was involved give something back to the community somehow. Perhaps have them spend those game days coaching kids or something.

but that would a major advantage to teams that only pay them once

then again that includes tigers… GOOD IDEA! :supporter:

… and by who else.

Given that Searle is 80% owner of the Titans I fear their internal auditing/due diligence is seriously remiss & dumb old Schuey take's his word. Need I even mention Easts, Brisbane & Manly.....

Schuey is not a qualified financial auditor & the dogs rort slipped by on his shift until two female business journos at Fairfax did some minor digging on the so-called Oasis development & uncovered payments to Price, Anasta & others.

They took this to Roy Masters etc & ONLY THEN the NRL took action!

Schuey is an incompetent buffoon who makes Ron look almost credible! (Almost.)
