Happy is right, don't tar us all with the one brush….there is good and bad worshippers in most religions....sometimes you can't help what you have been born into...

Can people on here (Abraham in particular) please just learn what theory means when talking about science.

- As used in science, a theory is an explanation or model based on observation, experimentation, and reasoning, especially one that has been tested and confirmed as a general principle helping to explain and predict natural phenomena. Any scientific theory must be based on a careful and rational examination of the facts

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_theory

Evolution is both fact and a theory.

A theory is not the same as a hypothesis. Theory in scientific terms is not the same theory used by a lay person

By its own definition this thing people refer to as god is a logical contradiction therefore cannot exist or absolutely useless, take your pick.

If god is willing to prevent evil, but not able, Then he is not omnipotent.
If he's able, but not willing, Then he is malevolent.
If he's both able and willing, Then he is evil.
If he's neither able nor willing, Then why call him god?

This sounds so smart but fortunately it is flawed. It's the kind of thing I would have quoted a decade ago before exploring the topic with people who could help me through the journey. It's what I hung to when I wanted to reject God.

God grants free will to all of us. Once he lives our lives for us then why would we exist? He would just do our important existing for us.

Imagine the pain he must feel watching me make terrible decisions on a weekly basis. Yet he loves me so much he lets me be me. Yet when I truly trust him and pray sometimes he does intervene. I trust he knows when too and when not too intervene.

Boil all our great and horrible choices down and you are left with the essence of the human condition: do I believe? God has left me with this choice. He hasn't obviously over played his hand and in doing so removed my choice, he has consistently been there when I have sort him.

I have never found him through chasing the apple (humanly knowledge) though I have tried. I have only found him in my heart, in prayer and in seeing him work in my life when I opened up to him.

Please believe what you will. I am just sharing my perspective. Go the Tigers.

You are just asserting god and asserting this god somehow creates things and grants them free will, how about you start proving something is there first before you talk about what it can do/does. And no you haven't demonstrated a flaw, the free will argument doesn't solve the problem of evil. If God can't intervene and prevent evil because it might violate our free will then it has to drop at least one of its tags of omnipotence omniscient or omnibenevolence, then what use is it as a god?

Q Who decided that death is the punishment for sin?
A God
Q Who then sends his son/self to be sacrificed to save us from that punishment?
A God

So your worshiping and thanking god for saving you from the punishment that it itself made up and was going to deliver to you.
Makes perfect sense doesn't it?

It's like thanking an abusive spouse for 'not' beating you up.

going back and forth on here isn't going to solve anything. I will respond to your points but will try to keep it simple as the answer could be 10 pages long.

Sin
It may help you to understand what sin is. Put overly simplistically and in its most basic way sin is actions or thoughts that take you away from a relationship with God.

So by God existing, and him giving us 'free' will he created the potential for sin. That is we could choose to go our own way and be seperate from him. This doesn't sound evil to me.

Death.
God created us without death. When in harmony with God there was no death. We chose knowledge, independence and self reliance. This led to separation (sin) from God. When seperate to God we end up on our own. Unfortunately this ends up in death.

All the knowledge (facts) in the world doesn't lead to God. How can it? Relying on knowledge Is a persons way of saying once I can be totally self reliant by having all the information I will then start depending upon God.

God calls us to trust and submit to him. Why would he reveal himself to you when you reject that he is God and instead submit that you should set the rules for him to interact with you (prove it to you) You want to say what the rules or process to belief should be… You know best right? It's the ultimate example of the Adam and Eve parable. They knew better, we still know better.

Try reading the bible through the lens that Gods wants a relationship with you. Try reading it from a lens that maybe he knows more than you. Try the lens of trusting him. Most people can't,and hence they are seperate to God.

Think since the OP has been lost 7 pages ago …we should change tack and answer the really BIG question....

ARE WE ALONE IN THE UNIVERSE...?

With that this is going to General Discussion>>>>>>>>>

No, we are not alone for mine.

The odds of sharing it with equivalent or superior beings however are much greater though.
The fact that we can control fire and have thumbs has allowed us much greater development than other creatures.

My only problem with this Religion Topic is all the Hypocrites that make themselves devoted to there God but break all Sins that there supposed to believe in….

A couple of years ago we had a Family B.B.Q at Mum's house on good Friday and one of my sister's friend brought her friend over , my Mum knew she was Catholic and respected that Catholics don't eat meat on Good Friday so she got her Seafood and a nice piece of Snapper . Samantha was talking to my Mum in the Kitchen as my Mum was Seasoning it with all the herbs and whatever have you..... Samantha says to my mum " who is that fish for ? " my Mum says for you , her reply was "don't worry Mum and Dad won't know unless you tell them " i'm having B.B.Q meat with everyone here .
Her parents used to think that when she got Married she was this Virgin walking up the aisle :roll . Her Mum said to my Mum " she looks beautiful in that pure White Dress " 😱pen_mouth: , my Mum said to Samantha's Mum " she sure is Senora Maria " .
Samantha knew how to Party let me tell you and my Mum became like a Mum to her cause she could be herself with my Mum and wasn't judged by her actions that was against her Parents faith .
Old generation Italians think there kids are something there not .

# How many are actually Married without having Sex until there Wedding Day ?
# Move in together before Marriage ?
# Marry in White dresses when they are not Virgins ?
# How many Priests have fondled Kids and touched them up that you hear off?

Sorry but it's the truth

I used to work with a Tunisian Man who was a Muslim and would always do the Ramadan but loved the Pokies and Gambled his earnings away.

I have no problem what so ever with people that want to believe in God but don't be hypocrites is what i would say.
What the Bible says they don't follow it , as i know so many that have done things that is totally against there Faith . Hypocrites at it's best .

I hear you. It's annoying when we all fail. For me, I'm Christian and I fail all the time. I don't want to look at other women, yet I do. I don't want to lie and yet I do. I don't want waste money that could save the life of a refugee…. But I do. I would look like a hypocrite to you.

I'm a sinner and can never actually be worthy. Lucky for me I believe Jesus died for me. Lucky for me I get to have a relationship with God not because of my purity but purely because I acknowldge that I am a sinner.

Foreveratiger... Mate that's the whole Christian point. Being a Christian doesn't make you better, it is just admitting how bad you are and fully relying on Jesus from then on

I have to admit that it is my fault that the Wests Tigers are in the poor position that they find themselves in. Not just this year either.

I am really sorry. I apologise to all WT supporters for my selfish behaviour.

In hindsight, I shouldn't have prayed to God the night of the 2005 grand final. In a moment of weakness and complete selfishness I asked God that night, that if my Wests Tigers won, then I wouldn't care if they never won a premiership ever again.

I just wanted to win THAT game, THAT premiership! All my son's in-laws are Cowboy supporters - it was pride and 'pride cometh before a fall'

Please? How do I redeemeth myself?

Look this is becoming a Tit for Tat thing and the whole thing has been taken out of context with the point Cqtiger was trying to make with his Original Post and i fell in the trap.

Mccarry i respect what you believe in and if it helps you getting through life with this Path and anyone else on this Forum that Jesus died for you then i'm happy for you and everyone else here .

Fairdinkum makes a great point. People only believe what they believe due mainly to their upbringing. If you were born in India you would be a Hindu, if you were born in Denmark in the time of the Vikings you'd believe in Wotan and Thor, if you were brought up in classical Greece you'd believe in Zeus. There's no reason why a religion you've been born into out of sheer luck is the right one out of of the hundred others you could just as easily been born into and have believed in just as strongly.

If someone who is deeply religious doesn't believe in Gods outside their religion, does that make them Atheists as well?

People are allowed and should be allowed to believe in what every they want. Just because someone doesn't believe in the same thing as someone else does not give them the right to say what i believe in is false. I don't go to an Islamic person and say what they believe is false. You know why? Because i may not believe in what they believe in but i RESPECT it. No one is forcing you to believe in god they are just giving you the opportunity to… Some of you people are so arrogant and stubborn.... When Wests Tigers won the premiership we didn't know they where gonna win but we had.....FAITH.

People can believe whatever they like, no one is saying they can't. People who don't believe are just being honest about how they feel, just like the believers.

Not always the case. In fact, I know stacks of Indian people brought up as Hindus, who are now Christian missionaries.
