His intention to play on is a decision based on $$$ and not on form.

The fact that it has now caused a schism amongst the public is disappointing and proving to be an unwarranted distraction.

It’s not money he craves it’s the fame

He loves the media attention that’s for sure.

He’d get just as many cheers and waves running the drinks ...probably more .

He’d certainly get more respect

For sure ..and he’d still get to kiss babies and sign bosoms at full time

Benji will get that mixed up for sure ....Buckets O'Neill anyone

I want him to leave because I absolutely love the guy and the player, I think he still has a lot to offer and I can't stand people singling out one brain snap or one defensive error all the while ignoring that he instigated most of the tries that keep us competitive.

I dont think its money or fame he craves, i think he genuinely loves playing footy.

But, its time to move on mate. We all get to that time.

I doubt it is based on $, could earn more if he retired.

Playing $ + current fox sports is more than he'll earn if he retires (Not my words - but the words of an ex-team mate).

Wouldn't be walking into an club ambassador role straight away.

I doubt that he would earn more playing and in his current role with Fox than if he went fulltime in the media. If that was the case the club should find him a role to make up the difference if it makes all the drama disappear. I'm sure they could get $150k value out of him somewhere in an off field role,

Why should the club do anything, they have bent over backwards for Benji.
He walked in 2013 in another teams jersey, they gave him a 1 year swan song in 2018 when no one wanted him.
He has milked 3 years out of that, and wants a 4th year, this is all on Benji and his ego, the club has done nothing wrong

Because all this other rubbish goes away if this is just about money. I doubt it is though.

100% mate, when you love playing it is very hard to stop.

Benji must be the luckiest player to ever play the game according to some ,14 years of playing many different coaches at the tigers not to mention dragons broncos and NZ captain. I don’t know what any of those coaches saw in him ,I wish I could be so lucky.
That last kick hopeless being 20 points down after 20 mins how could he let that happen.

Talk about an emotional post.....

No one is questioning what Benji did.

Fans are questioning why he wants to continue when its obvious that he is no longer up to it esp from a D perspective.

That’s a simple one. Just about every player retires because they have lost a smidge of hunger or desire. Rightly or wrongly Benji hasn’t and he is constantly being told by all the experts and some coaches he still has plenty to offer. The real mystery is why with so much to offer none of those clubs have offered him a deal. ?

I wouldn't be surprised if he genuinely believes him playing is what is best for the club, as I said in my last post it is incredibly hard to give up playing when you love playing.

Unwarranted distraction how and for who

Take a look at what a media circus it has been since Benji got the news he isn’t getting a contract for next year.
The club has been bashed from pillar to post nearly every day, no coincidence that it started when Benji spat the dummy, we don’t need another year of this sort of bad press

Start winning on a regular basis and make the eight year in year out and you will stop the media circus . We bring a lot of this on our self’s,even the way Marshall found out that he was not wanted.stop being unprofessional as an organisation make finals and perhaps criticism of club stops

Should say This forum not our.
The forum doesn’t represent my views.
He is struggling & just because he might want to run around doesn’t mean he should.
He also hasn’t earned the right to do so at our club, sure he came home but he was gone for a period. For a premier half he hasn’t gotten us to the finals since he has been back either. He will just hold someone back.

Time to hang the boots up.

Mate life is full of emotions in case you don’t know.As for Marshall it’s up to him not the fans judgment,I make no apologies for being a Benji fan

The bulldogs could probably get some value out of him for a year or two. They are still working through their salary cap issues and with Green coming back from injury and very little depth in the halves he would be a good signing. He gets to play with his brother and we get to sign Burton 😉

Does anyone truly believe Benji found out that he wasn’t going to be offered a contract in 2021 in the newspapers? Embarrassing!

More like he leaked it to the newspaper

Pascoe emailed some members this week saying "we tried our best to do it properly" etc etc with Benji's manager.

Indirectly = saying Benji's manager was the one who caused the media storm.

Benji has done his dash. I wish he would have gone out on his own terms and I mentioned that on here. Sadly he didn’t, but that does not diminish his status as a WT hero. @Mighty_Tiger saying he hasn’t earned the right IMO not only completely wrong but disrespectful.

Realising that his time has come and gone is one thing, but the slagging is out of line. Sorry.

And apologies for pointing you out @Mighty_Tiger; it’s not just you. I’m just not comfortable with it.

That's interesting but not surprising

Sorry don’t know what happen there , and this club does not have to many champions to call on so let the bloke play on .

Pearce was cut from the Roosters even after delivering them a premiership because the club is constantly looking forward and improving. You could argue what they did to him for a player in his prime was much worse than not re-signing a 36 yer old.

After back to back premierships (with a possible 3rd) do you think any of the Roosters fans even think about Pearce anymore?

Successful clubs take emotion out of it make tough decisions for the better of the club.

Actually I don’t think Pearce did deliver them a Premiership did he?
