Give credit where its due, all you haters

I have not seen any supporter on here "hate" Benji only acknowledge his faults and compare them to his assets. When he started his career he was a huge asset he is not now, sadly he is a liability. All players deteriorate with age

He must be the go to guy now. Last week it was blasting management over the jerseys. He should stick to counting his money and keep his mouth shut.

Although i will give him a tick for having some cahoonies. After the jersey dummy spit he was blasted on the Magpies facebook page - comment after comment he was given a big thumbs down. After about 50 comments he came on the page and explained his situation, pointed out that having played for both Wests and Balmain and still having a soft spot for WT he believed that he had every right and probably more right than most keyboard warriors to have his say on the club.

Except he doesn’t, he has no association with the Wests Tigers. Just an option like everyone else.

People need to stop complaining because he as a bigger platform to voice his opinion then theirs but al he is doing is the same as everyone on here

We have 24 players on contract for 2021, that have to be kept. There are alot saying to get rid of Packer, Reynolds and Mbye, however that is not going to happen. There is room for 4 players to be added to the 24. So there is McIntyre, Eisunhuth, Taylor, Seyforth, Clark, Jennings, Smith, McQueen, Lawrence and Marshall off contract.

Out of that lot I would off contract, I would offer small extensions to McIntyre and Eiso. By the look of selections, I’d say the squeeze is really on JRey and Rusty as well.

They cannot squeeze JRey and Rusty out, nobody else will take them. Agree would keep McIntyre and Eiso

McIntyre has a bit of X factor missing in the others. Things happen around him because he competes hard.

Yes exactly like everyone else and he is entitled to express it just like everyone else is, being a former player though more people are going to hear his opinion than some nobodies on a forum.

You are correct but his opinion has a larger audience than yours regardless of who he played for, that is not his fault so people need to get over it and stop whinging. I'm sure if ch7 wanted your opinion you would give it.

McIntyre has the right attitude. He needs more time in the gym and most importantly game time. Fitness and upper body strength are the only small downsides to his game right now. It sucks that there is no reserve grade this year. He would've hugely benefitted playing there in the games he was not selected in first grade.

I don't think his issue is strength at all, he's dropped quite a few players one on one this season and he ragdolled Brian To'o over the sideline who is no midget.

Don't know anything about his relationship with kids, those sort of comments seem vastly inappropriate. I haven’t noticed those comments and I don’t think I want to.

My objection is non Wests Tigers players and officials giving opinions about what, where and how we should do things. Especially those players and officials from last century. I am no longer interested in hearing from them, and will call them out for what they are when I do. As a club we are more than 20 years old now and deserve to set our own destiny and have our own history. Unless these people are paid members their opinions can go and jump as far as I am concerned.

The question has to be asked: will the media call out the other 15 clubs if no one signs Benji for next year?
Is it just because he is a Wests Tigers legend? What about The Dragons, Broncos, or Auckland Blues?
Yep he’s done a lot for this club but he hasn’t earned the right to dictate if he gets to play on or not.

Of course they won’t, I can’t believe we were paying $300k a year for him, yes Ivan signed some high priced duds, but Madge re-signed Benji twice, his judgement is highly questionable

Not twice. Pascoe re-signed Marshall in Aug 18 when it was clear Cleary was going. Madge come here in Nov 18.
But he did re-sign him the next year.

Give credit where its due, all you haters. Did i read somewhere that Benji is high up on the try assists stat in the NRL. I am pretty sure he has been responsible for most of our tries this season. My concern is that without him where are the points going to come from

We won't need as many points without his defence.

Absolutely valid comment for sure, but i think you get my point. He has contributed on the attacking side of the ledger - I’m just hoping that whoever is taking his place can do equally.

Of course Benji has the most try asists...he runs east West across the field creating space and opportunites occassionally for his outside men.,who are really struggling to find same clear air themselves. How often have we seen JB or Mybe with room to move?
The real cultural issue is Benji, heavily targetted and renowned as a speed hump by all teams, misses tackle after tackle resulting in opposition tries because he simply doesnt put his body on the line, and that means other guys are covering for him,,,and missing their tackles too in doing so.Theyre carrying him.
IMO Benjis presence on field results in the " costs" being much more than the "benefits"..if hes excused for leaking tries by not being committed, why shld others give that extra 10%
Our ongoing self entitled culture is some thing else..along with Farah. Benji has been thru 5 coaches.Personally I think Benjis philosophy of "I dont need to commit to defence because I can score more than the opposition" did apply once in 2005 ,but since then we havent had the cattle to do it ,plus the opposition have better and targetted defences
Benji seems integral to this entrenched risk/reward culture and probably isnt on board with Madges hard work/attrition/strucured philosophy,
Personally I suspect Madge wont be in any way distraught to see the last of Benjis influence on team culture ,as much as a legend he has been for WTS,all things considered his overall permance and influence on others is a liability overall rite now
No NRL team will pick him up IMO.."maybe some other team but not us"..according to all coaches
So Madge..a good call on Benji, but not particularly well executed ...candour upfront wld have been appropriate

Give credit where its due, all you haters. Did i read somewhere that Benji is high up on the try assists stat in the NRL. I am pretty sure he has been responsible for most of our tries this season. My concern is that without him where are the points going to come from

We won't need as many points without his defence.

Of course Benji has the most try asists...he runs east West across the field creating space and opportunites occassionally for his outside men.,who are really struggling to find same clear air themselves. How often have we seen JB or Mybe with room to move?

Reminds me of his 2012 season. I remember he was under heaps of criticism that year. To deflect it, he would constantly bring up how he is second in try assists to Cooper Cronk. Sure, he may have been statistically doing okay, but other players had decreased performances around him.

In attack, the other half and the centres are the biggest losers. In defence, his second rower is more susceptible to fatigue due to the increased workload required to cover for Benji.

Before 2012, Benji was a good enough player to structure a game plan entirely around him. So players were happy to accommodate his weaknesses and run crazy lines for him. From 2012 onwards, he was not. He doesn't do it every game, but 50% of his games since 2018 he still thinks it's 2011 and he has Ellis, Dwyer, Lawrence, Ayshford, Lui, etc. doing all the grunt work for him to make sure he can do his thing.

To his credit, his kicking in general play has improved a lot. If he was as good at long kicks now back in the day he would have been unstoppable.

You can't disregard Benji's stats for try assists and then refer to his miss tackle stats to bag him. We know his flaws in defence he has to own that the stats back it up, but the try assists stats are legit and should be acknowledged without the yeh buts.

His offence has been ok. His try assist are fine in the other attacking bits he has been poor with. Struggled with repeat sets. Gave alot of 7 tackle set as well.
