Tigers confirm Marshall won't be at club in 2021

Without Benji, we would not have scored one try against the Panthers. Against Newcastle he let 2 tries in. One was against Ponga 1 on 1. Dont know too many halves who would have done much better. The other was against a giant forward 1 on 1.
Unfortunately for Benji, he is in a side where his team mates do not give much assistance in defence. Plenty of halves in other teams are just as bad but are hidden or more protected by their team mates.
Anybody who watched the Knights against the Warriors will have seen Pearce miss 2 tackles that conceded 12 points. I did not see his name all over the papers. I bet he is not been persecuted on their forums. Yes Benji's defence is bad when he is left out to dry. And I also believe its time to retire. But the constant bashing of one of our former greats is getting boring.

I dont think having a discussion about Benji and why he wont be with us next is bashing him, most are merely pointing out his flaws in defense that Madge is very meticulous about,he structures his gameplans on defense...Benji is great in attack, but he lets himself and the team down when it comes to defense..

It is pretty obvious to me, others may disagree, that Benji would be here next year if Reynolds was gone. Benji has a difficult assignment with the right side from winger in being poor defenders. At a club with stronger defence, he would have a minder and be effective.

I might be on my own, but it seems pretty obvious to me watching football the past 2 years that Brooks, Mbye, Reynolds and Walters (and talau and anyone we have) aren't remotely close to as good in attack, repeat sets, etc as Benji. I might be a lunatic though and on my own. I'd rather we shed Brooks, Mbye AND reynolds for next year but we never have a good football manager looking over things. Instead we have many dud halves on like 2mill, when we could have had a kinda OK, better than dud option on like $300k lol.

The problem is we can't - these guys aren't off contract, no one wants them, and even if they did we'd be paying a large portion of their contract anyway, probably even more than we're paying Benji, and getting nothing in return.

Brooks won't be going anywhere regardless. Madge has made it clear they're rolling with him, and I can't say I disagree as swapping out both halves would only bring more disharmony to the team. That, and you've got to think that Brooks is a chance of finding some form again. Once the rest of the team is firing of course, I reckon there's a good chance.

I'd prefer that too, but we can't get rid of them.

Totally agree. I just wish we didn't end in the situation in the first place. I want someone smart at the top looking over these things.

Yeah the logic is they aren't fast enough to turn and chase the attacker down

And Benji did yell tag...

The top end Cleary signings have crippled us, in more ways than one. Hopefully the club has learnt from this and we don't make the same mistakes again.

Do you no at all the history at the Tigers in this regard .. these are not mistakes these are endemic stuff ups !

I think we need a Phil Gould type, or Bennet, or Sheens even. I don't even trust Madge to be responsible. Need a brilliant manager involved overseeing coaching, players and staff.

Give credit where its due, all you haters. Did i read somewhere that Benji is high up on the try assists stat in the NRL. I am pretty sure he has been responsible for most of our tries this season. My concern is that without him where are the points going to come from

We won't need as many points without his defence.

Nice one Russ, one try assist for us, 2 try assists to the opposition, sounds about right

Nofoaluma and Leilua are weak defenders. If you want to dispute that I won't bother wasting my time replying.

Marshall is a half with a history of major shoulder injuries. Due to this, his defence will not be as strong as other players.

Having three weak defenders situated on the right courses problems in defence.

If Benji had a minder similar to the role Ellis or Carroll played in protecting halves, his defence would not be such as problem.

This is not the case as we don't have this player at the Club.

I find it hilarious Benji's ordinary defence is being blamed on the centre and winger. Don't they play wider?

Dear me and I thought backs on both sides work as a team. No it's silos allround.

Look, let’s just wait and see if by the close of the season Benji announces his moving to another club or his retiring. At this stage I’d say the later.
Benji may still have the football smarts but his body doesn’t keep up anymore. Father Time has caught up and last person to realise this is still looking for a ‘starting role at another club next year’
