A lot of people point to the Canterbury and Souths examples for success at ANZ. Their move was easier, no joint ventures, pretty much one set of fans so to speak.

I think the sensible option is to wean the fans away from the suburban grounds over a planned period of seasons. Currently there are 4 games at each. This should be revised to 3, then 2 but ultimately i think there should **always** be a game at each no matter how much ANZ pay.

To lose these venues purely on costs alone would be criminal. Either way, best to wait end see what comes of council discussions with the club end of this month.

I dont understand how you think the move for canterbury fans would have easier compared to us.

He explained it very clearly.

I read his post. I don't understand how there is a difference. Bulldogs fans had to give up a groundtheyloved just the same as we may have to give up a ground we love.

Dogs are back at Belmore.

So shouldn't that make it an easier decision? The dogs potentially were going to upset their whole supporter base but we will only upset half of ours? I really don't see the difference.
All i see us a successful club who made the tough call, an unsuccessful club that sits on its hands for 15 years having the odd meeting with councils.

I see your point…dunno if easier is probably the correc term.

It wasnt always happy days for the dogs, I remember them playing at the showground at Homebush...everyone hated it

The bulldogs have two games at Belmore later in the year, against the Sharks and the Storm. Suburban grounds will always have significance, even for a team which has made itself at home in Olympic Park.

Oh I'm not saying the dogs fans were happy but it was definitely the correct decision for the club. hopefully our board make their decision for the right reasons aswell.

I applaud the bulldogs on this move. They've been working very hard behind the scenes in recent years to make this happen.

Be good to see Souths have a back to Redfern day one day …. Only problem is if they go back for one match fans will want more !

I don't understand all this palava:

Who cares what St. George and their legacy wrote on the wall at Kogarah.
All I remember going through in those 11 years was that it almost brought Rugby League to its knees. Took any unpredictability out of 11 seasons.

Poor old Canterbury had to leave Belmore ….???? Who cares.
Since when to we worry about Bulldog supporters?

"Nice to have Souffs return to Redfern" - Why? We get enough about "The Pride of the League" ... I'd like to relocate them to Antarctica. Now that would make them a pretty cool football team!

Half our supporters don't give a rats about Leichhardt... More the pity.
That is why we will never have unified fans. It may not be important to you but it would be nice to want to play there for the other half of the fans.

I don't really give a rats about Campbelltown, Lidcombe or Pratten Park either but I wouldn't want to see the 4 games taken away from that half of the WT fans that enjoy and see that as being important to them.

The trouble is most of our fans do not have empathy for the other half of the joint venture.

Our Club says "Unite" yeah! and what?

I agree Russell. Most games should be played at ANZ for the financial benefits for the WTs. However I'd never begrudge the fans of LO or CS a couple of games a year. Telling those WTs fans you "don't give a rats" is rude and divisive. Unite how we become stronger.

I don't see myself on one half of the club and you on the other. I just see a financially struggling club ignoring what i believe is a pretty simple solution to a lot of our problems. 1 game at LO and CSS and the rest at ANZ.

But yes, I'm more interested in the clubs needs than your wants.

I don't blame the players for wanting to stay there, I've been to a packed Leichhardt and it rocks puts the opposition on its arse same can be said for Campbelltown great atmosphere when its packed out although being to both I'd say Leichhardt has an edge in that Dept. I don't think either venue should be abandoned, I think the club needs to be strategic in its alocation of matches, to maximize crowd and potential for competition points. I fear Mayer has little appreciation for this and will do whatever he pleases, the members who hold a Leichhardt membership pack should be up in arms at the suggestion of moving games they've already paid for, I really dislike Mayer think he's the root of a lot of issues I'd be personally happy to see the back of him.

I am not a Mayer fan either Doc but ground allocation is a board decision. I am sure he will have input but the final decision rests with the board. Not sure what the Magpie directors will want but it may not matter if the three NRL directors don't want to play there and go to where the money is.

I think all relevant directors will agree that improving income is the top priority. Without financial viability there is no club to complain about where they play.

Become fiscally strong first and then play up to sentimental notions if it is affordable.

Don't care what anyone says, but these big venues are killing live sport, soon they will play in empty stadiums with massive advertising plastered everywhere and the tv stations will just broadcast the game. Its just like music concerts, its all about the venue and the atmosphere it creates.
Even though i live in qld now and rarely get to attend games, i refuse to go to the big stadiums, there's zero atmosphere and i spend 70% of the game watching the big screen anyway i feel so detatched from the game that i may as well not be there so id rather stay home and watch a screen.
Give me a packed sunny sunday arvo at leichhardt over any other sporting event. World cup soccer final stick it, mens 100m final stick it, formula 1 stick it, you name it they all pale in comparison for me.
Gimme Leichhardt, beer, family, hill, on Sunday arvo and ill die happy.
Everything else is second rate.
