Manly recruit no-names too…as do they all

Yes but Manly have a hell of a lot to work with already and their back row and five eight are handy

But Manly manage to make the right calls on the fringe payers like Justin Horo, Brenton Lawrence and Tom Symonds.
Ours are all duds.

…and thats what we are working towards.

People expect miracle fixes...theres no quick way to success....it will take time, years

Manly are an exceptional team/club….they always make the semis - always.
Comparing to one of the best is one way to push an argument....no matter how unbalanced it is
But I do agree to an extent....our focus on junior development over recruitment of top liners is the slow hard way....its all you can do when theres little money

And I don't expect miracles overnight Ink , look at the comment on my signature

But the players we have bought for 2014 won't improve the squad from 2013

I heard someone say that the NRL comp improves 5% every season

We finished 15th out of 16 and we have brought one player who is guaranteed a spot in squad from 2013

Our signings for 2014 should of been made in 2012

The only reason we will improve in 2014 will be because the juniors will get better , it will have nothing to do with recruiting guys that will compliment our outstanding junior talent

And shouldn't that be what we are aiming to do or aiming to that level that Manly's at

They turned it round it two seasons from 2005 -2007 and have near to the top of the tree since

We went from the top of the tree (possibly undeservedly ) to where we are at now

Brenton Lawrence?
One **extraordinary** player there

People were talking about him in similar tones to the way they talked about Simona & Nofo

Sorry Ink , he was playing club rugby league in South Australia, one season captain coach of a Canberra district side went to the Burleigh Bears team next season and played for the Titans the following season and went on to the Eagles after that

He is a true late bloomer

So much criticism without having any suggestions.

Sack them all. Get new people etc. in case you didn't notice- we have had more changes in the staff than probably any other year before.

It's one thing to say you're patient and another to actually have the patience.

We will still have $1mill for 2015\. All well and good wanting to sign a half and big forwards a week before preseason, but have a look at the players off contract, noone worth it. Brown is signed as a centre.

What do we sign in 2015? Backline and halves will be fairly sorted by then. It'd have to be a lock/second rower you'd think… Gallen maybe?

Mayer said a few months ago that recruiting top name players to the Tigers is hard. Why? Concord is a poor facility. When they interview potential signings and show them around Concord, they see sub-standard facilities - poor gym equipment, little investment in sport science etc. It's not an attractive place for them to come. Mayer's exact words were "we need to tag on an extra $50k to their salary to compensate". Until we lift our club up to the professional standards seen by the leading clubs, we will struggle.

It's been discussed before but a new facility is high on Mayer's agenda, and I believe this will work hand in hand with our recruitment drive.

LMAOO u do realise we have to build a SQUAD

And signing a guy who has played one game in a Western Force Second 15 will make a huge difference with the outside backs we have coming through

The last thing we need is wingers

We need a half decent 6 for the next 18 months and some hard running defensive machines as second rowers

That would be building our squad , wouldn't it ??

Stop whinging and name some names that we could have signed.

The thing is if we are going to get rid of players they have to be replaced by better players

We replace sub standard players with more sub standard players

And you and Col ask me to name names

Its a bit late now , anyone worth contracting is gone already The players we wanted in 2014 should of been signed at the end of 2012 early 2013

I'm not asking for the whole squad to be replaced never have we probably only need 3-4 players to turn our squad around

Two back rowers , five eight and a impact prop/second rower off the bench

But players like Keith Lulia,Dene Halatau ,Bodene Thompson,Eddy Pettybourne aren't the answers Basically we replaced guys like Heighington ,Ayshford and the like with similar players

Do those sought of recruitment decisions make sense honestly to anyone with a ounce of common sense

Ours are all duds.

how would you know if potter/mayer's new recruits will be good or not? fringe players aren't going to strike awe into people's hearts upon hearing them. They have to prove themselves in FG and they havent had the chance yet.

Under sheens/humpty yes, they were duds. But this is a new era, and our signings might turn into great players for all we know.

We are building a whole new squad.

The 5/8 u talk about- we had moltzen Anasta, Marshall back then. We could not possibly have signed any other 5/8 back then. For all we knew, Marshall was with is in 2015.

As for second rowers, Blair is talking up a chunk of our forwards cap. We don't have a luxury of spending so much on good forwards. And as I mentioned before, potter seems to be in the bennet mould where he is not willing on spending a fortune on forwards.

When potter came- he had Marshall for 3 more years, aysh for a couple more and Blair on a heavy contract. He doesn't deserve any blame for not signing any flashy outside backs, 5/8 or backrowers.

Give him a bloody break and let him build a squad. We have emptied a lot of our cap space through Marshall, ayahford, reddy pettybourne and miller. Just coz manly turned it around in a couple of years doesn't mean we have to as well.

doesn't mean we won't either, theyve had a couple of years. we've had 1 crappy injury stricken year with poor facilities that desperately need an upgrade. give it 1 or 2 more then go ballistic if you want

Iam with Happy 100%, I would rather them buy no one, than keep going for the hail Mary buys from left field. I hope the likes of Brown and Gordon succeed, but really the chances are very slim. For this club to lift itself off the bottom of the table they are going to have to get a lot smarter than they are now.

Also, name any good players that went on the market this year.

Horo and Lawrence- if we signed them both a year ago people would've still been whinging.

I hope I'm proven to be a complete idiot and these recruits fire as well

But I won't hold my breath either

Its nothing new, our recruitment since day dot 90% of the time has been garbage, our footy generally from day dot has been average as well…..there is no culture at the 'club'...I really dont know if it is a club...theres a helluva lot missing, facilities, staff, players, attitude, culture....these threads have been around for years...I see success here as fleeting and mediocrity consistent.
Lets not forget a year ago our coach of a decade was sacked, less than a year ago our CEO deserted the sinking ship after getting the gym new curtains...all while the board farted around and benji threw balls to row D....we are STILL paying for mistakes made seasons ago.
It can all fall apart very quick, even quick when its already broken....takes a LOT longer to put it all back together again

I don't get the buy no one mentality tbh. We do have to field a squad from SG ball to NRL right? We need depth in every position in every grade.

There is nothing to lose with these signings IMO.
