Tigers welcome Shaun Mielekamp

Makes a lot of sense.

$400,000 is a lot of money for a cashed strapped club but this is it, our chance to entrench ourselves in two local communities and grow with those communities, especially Campbo.

It's our best bet to becoming a strong club, Penrith was the blueprint.
You are right, Penrith are the blueprint.

- Penrith dont have a hbg equiveldnt and debenture holders running the club.
- Panthers leagues club invest up to 6 million a year into the NRL club (hbg 1.5 million).
- Penrith dont have 3 home grounds.
- Penrith wouldnt have 3 x logos of a magpie on a wests tigers jersey.
- Penrith never had their koe team playing at a local oval instead, instead they played out of bluebet stadium of following their nrl side.

Its laughable to compare the two clubs, they are nothing alike.

Key Takeaways

Financial Firepower: Panthers Group operates at double the annual turnover of HBG ($175M+ vs. $87M). Penrith's extensive commercial development around the Penrith precinct (hotel, entertainment, multiple venue sites) gives the NRL club a significantly larger commercial buffer.

Governance Alignment: Penrith benefits from a single, unified chain of command under the Panthers Group umbrella. HBG spent years navigating the political friction of the Wests/Balmain joint venture before standardizing governance following major structural reviews.

Dependence on Gaming: While both rely heavily on gaming revenue, gaming forms a much higher percentage of HBG's operational income (~53%) compared to Panthers, which has successfully built out large hotel, function, and corporate sponsorship portfolios.

We are slowing getting towards positive ground- how much of a difference in $$$ would be there if Balmain didnt go belly up? I'd like to see WA debenture system gone and expand ops and $$$ with Campbelltown, especially with Leichhardt out of commission for a year or two (noting timetables almost always slip). Getting Campbelltown more involved can only help. I'd eventually like to see only 1 x inner city leagues club (not a Balmain and a Wests Ashfield- just one) and Campbelltown club.

Agree with your sentiment, But to nit pick - Panthers feeder team used to be Windsor - and they did indeed play out of a suburban park.
And yes, It's the coldest place in the world.

Thats going back a while mate. Its been the panthers since 2014. Been there a few times myself!

Unless they win it doesn’t matter about juniors and pathways and all that stuff. If they don’t win none of the juniors will want to play for us and the pathways ultimately becomes a failure. There backing on it despite a poor win record. Very risky move which the odds of backfiring are very very high.

So what do you think we should do then?

I didn't compare the two clubs, 'blueprint' means that we should try and copy.

And obviously some things will never be the same but there are things that are alike, the junior program and engagement with the local community could be the same.

You may disagree but I think our junior pathways system is our best bet to getting out of this mess and I'm very happy the CEO is focusing on that.

And maybe, just maybe if HBG start to see the positive outcomes from this they'll chuck in more than the current 1.8m a year.
