@ said:@ said:@ said:Just wanted to query this with the talk of the forum being interested in Graham.
I'm really liking the way Grant is playing at the moment and he seems to be doing really well starting.
My thoughts are he is a cut price forward compared to Graham who is committed and is starting to run hard.
Matolino has a lot more to his game and can provide fed just the right amount of impact.
**Would it work if Grant stayed on to start alongside Packer with Mats and Twal off the bench?**
This is after all a budget option as oppose to signing someone like Graham.
Thoughts?
Can't see why not. Matulino is great impact off the bench, as is Twal. I didn't really want to keep Grant previously, but geez his game has come on really well under Cleary over the past few weeks. I didn't think he still had it in him tbh, but he has proven me wrong and is going great guns. I would re-sign him and keep him as a starter, especially if we are not looking at buying any more props for now.
It has been mentioned previously, but Grant has an option for next year should he choose to exercise it.

Thanks Willow,
You must of responded as I was typing.
Just on the option you mention it is his favour.
Has there been any talk about an extension beyond next year or is it a case of Grant likely to take up the option if he cannot secure a longer term contract anywhere else.
He has spoken openly about wanting to stay and extend his contract and become a respected clubman.
@ said:Hmm well I'll watch this space with interest.
See if Cleary does decide to go the other way and try secure another decent prop instead.
I guess we'd know where things are at if we offer James Graham a contract.
@ said:Players like Grant annoy me a bit. They compete out of their skin at contract negotiation time and then go back to plodding for a couple of years. Very strange that his recent form has coincided with him wanting a 2 year plus deal.

I think RP that Grant was carrying an injury earlier in the year,he has improved heaps since recovering and being coached well by Ivan…Grant played a very good game against Manly and is only going to get better, maybe he is enjoying being here ,playing under Ivan and for this club...he was hitting the line hard on Sunday and if he continues playing like that consistently he should remain with us...just my opinion...

Was there a deadline on Grant and Taylor exercising their extensions earlier in the year? I have a feeling both have forgone the one year extension offer in favour of trying to negotiate longer contracts?

Grant wants a 2 year contract. Rumours are Penrith are interested.
I'm like you and thought he was giving us nothing. But gee he has been hitting the line hard lately. Not sure if it's to do with Cleary being here or him running that bit harder to get a better contract.

Honestly I hope it's Ivan's impact, it would only further highlight what he can do with an average player.
@ said:Grants mobility in defence is questionable I can recall 3 length of the field tries this year as a direct result of his marker defence.

The question is would you give him that second year to keep him? I don't think I would.
