Tim Grant - Commits till 2018..

Wests Tigers are pleased to announce that forward Tim Grant has extended his stay at the Club until at least the end of the 2018 season.

The 29-year-old has played 39 games for Wests Tigers since joining the club in 2015, with his career total at 182 games since his first-grade debut at Penrith in 2007.

A former New South Wales and City Origin representative, Grant has been a vital cog in the Wests Tigers forward pack since his arrival, and said he was excited to be able to extend his stay at the club for a further year.

“These are exciting times ahead here at Wests Tigers,” said Grant.

“I think we’ve made some real progress in the time that I’ve been here, we’ve seen a lot of growth throughout the club, there are some great young guys coming through and that’s exciting for everyone involved. We’ve also got a lot a lot of talent coming to the club and are definitely heading in the right direction.

“As your career goes on and you come and go through rep football and that sort of stuff you look for different things that stimulate you,” he said. “For me helping young guys day in, day out, with the little things in their game is what stimulates me to come and do my best everyday.

Wests Tigers Head Coach Ivan Cleary said that Tim’s experience was a valuable asset to the club.

“Tim’s experience is incredibly important as we head into this exciting new phase for the club,” said Cleary. “He’s an important member of our forward pack and it’s been great to see him continue to develop his game this year.

“His commitment to Wests Tigers, both on and off the field, cannot be understated and I look forward to working with him over the coming season,” said Cleary.

Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe echoed Cleary’s sentiments, praising the importance of Grant’s leadership.

“Tim’s maturity, professionalism and mentorship with our younger players is something that adds value to Wests Tigers not only on the field but off it as well,” said Pascoe.

“He’s an outstanding young man that we love having at this club.”

When the tigers announcment notification popped up on my phone i thought please!! Be E.t or eisenhuth i then saw it was grant and felt nothing. Something tells me he will go back to his plodding ways now that he has a extension

We now have front row covered, a back rower and fullback/outside back and think we are done.
Start looking at the 2018 off contract list and work out who we want to speak to come November

Most of the team was plodding until 2 months ago with below average performances across park it wasn't only Grant.

The past 6-8 weeks the team has lifted, I am sure alot of that is a combination of Ivans coaching and the new blood that has come in and performed very well.

If he can play the way he has recently, next year Grant will be great and our forwards stocks will be looking good.

Was it Cleary who cut him from Penrith?

Shows great professionalism from both parties, if true, to look at this situation and make a call on merit. A big change for us.

I dont think you can pass up his experience. He was once on the verge of really going to the next level. Sure, he didnt, but he at least can share that experience with younger dudes.

Smart move by the club, Grant is no world-beater and I've been critical of him at times but he'll be valuable for us next year no doubt.

Good for depth. Guys like him and Kev are fine as depth players. It's when we're relying on them in our best 17 that we are struggling.

Agree. At full strength I can't find a spot for him next season but injuries will no doubt play a part and we could do far worse than have Grant for depth.

I've always liked TG, doesnt shirk the dirty hit ups, always puts his hand up to cart the ball when others wouldn't.
Good depth signing!

Call me stupid but considering Joel Edwards currently occupies a spot on our bench I would actually be looking forward to TG and Packer leading the way as starting props with Matolino and Twal along with Alioi interchanging through for impact and stability.

Grant starting, Matulino on the bench?

No way…but each to their own.
