Tim Simona - Deregistered

I dont know what games he was betting on, but i dare say it will come out, Just remember one thing he plays for Wests Tigers so he will be hammered by the N.R.L.

Here is part of the report from the SMH.

Don't know how accurate it is

"Fairfax Media understands Simona, who has been shopped around to rival clubs for the past month and had been linked with a move to the Gold Coast, is believed to have made multiple minor bets on NRL games, some of which involved the Wests Tigers."

If he was betting on games he played in he should never pull a boot on again.

I'm not privy to any of the allegations that Simona has to face,to be honest he as other NRL players know the rules on gambling on RL,and if he has broken those rules he has to face the outcome…

My argument in all this is the Betting Agency advertisements and sponsorships....most on here will remember the days of the Tobbacco companies that poured millions of dollars into various sports,we had the Benson and Hedges one day internationals,Winfield Cup our very own highest trophy for winning the grand final,Rothmans sponsored car racing etc...these companies made their money back through people buying their various products......the advertising was banned ie NO SPONSOR NAME TO BE SHOWN ANYWHERE AT THE VENUE OR ADVERTISED ON TV etc....this is because smoking is a health hazard and is addictive and causes diseases...even now the governing bodies are stamping out smoking in all types of areas...airports,bus terminals, inside pubs and clubs(there can be allocated smoking areas) and alfresco dining areas...and yet smokes are heavily taxed because the governing bodies also need revenue...

Gambling is also highly addictive and has proven time and time again that it leads to huge loss of money and people cant pay their bills, causes family arguments and break downs leading to divorce and to the extreme wife bashing, loneliness and depression...To me here is the double standard...GAMBLE RESPONSIBLY...IF YOU NEED HELP CALL THE GAMBLING QUITLINE etc.......BUT STILL PROMOTE YOUR PRODUCT FREELY IN PAPERS- MAGAZINES-ON TV AND RADIO....

SMOKING KILLS .DONT SMOKE.IF YOU NEED HELP CALL THE QUIT SMOKING LINE.....NO ADVERTISING OF TOBBACCO PRODUCTS ANYWHERE AT ALL......DOUBLE STANDARDS IF EVER I SAW IT......

I smoke and do so at my expense, but I completely agree with the smokes promotion banning etc...
I gamle and do so at my expense, but I do not agree with the promotion of a product to entice the youth to spend on an addictive product....

WHATS GOOD FOR ONE IS GOOD FOR THE OTHER.....

This is purely how I view the situation as I see it....I may be entirely wrong,I suppose its where the moral compass is at the moment....

So he should be hammered. Why is that a bad thing?

The double standards and hypocrisy the NRL applies to different clubs is what annoys many people including myself.Treat all players and clubs identical and no one can argue but they dont and never will.

Even if there are double standards at play, maybe it's the higher profile players they need to go harder on and not the other way around. If they throw the book at Simona, they should be applauded.

WESTS Tigers centre Tim Simona is alleged to have placed a string of minor bets - including being the first tryscorer and scoring multiple tries in a game - during a betting spree that has placed his NRL career in jeopardy.

The Daily Telegraph learned on Friday night the allegations include claims that Simona’s exotic bets were placed with a leading corporate bookmaker during last season.

There were numerous small bets, in a lot of cases as little as $10, and in an account understood to be not in Simona’s name.

It is understood the Integity unit’s investigation into Simona’s alleged gambling breaches could extent beyond the first tryscorer and scoring multiple tries in a game bets.

The NRL dropped a betting bombshell when they issued Simona with a notice of intention to cancel his registration.

In an NRL statement, it read: “The notice relates to alleged breaches of the rules relating to gambling on NRL matches.

“Simona will now be prohibited from training or playing with the club until the matter is finalised.

“He will be given a chance to respond to the allegations before a final determination is made.’’

Simona was meant to feature in the Tigers’ final trial at Campbelltown Sports Stadium against the North Queensland Cowboys.

The news came on the same day Tigers teammate Kyle Lovett was expected to be spared the sack for a drugs possession charge. There were reports Lovett, who looked in good spirits at Campbelltown, could be back as early as round three.

COMEBACK: Earl on verge of NRL lifeline

TROUBLE: Sports stars who gambled and lost

In the 21 NRL games he played last year, Simona failed to score the first try. His only double came against Penrith in round 17 during the upset win over Penrith.

The 25-year-old Simona was linked to an immediate move to the Gold Coast Titans to help ease the Tigers salary cap situation.

De-registered his contract for 12 months…then allow him to come back in...

Our CAP issues solved.....

He learns a hard lesson, but is not rubbed out for life.

Seriously, $10 bets all on himself? They are interest/fun bets, he is not trying to make money. Does not deserve to lose a year's salary for that, education is the action required.

You would think there would be bigger fish to fry.

I am not saying he should be treated leniently just that all clubs and players be treated equally

Off course there are, salary cap cheating should be the main priority because everyone knows that some clubs constantly abuse it.

Not the crime of the century, but like Lovett…high end stupidity and dopeyness here

If we benefit cap wise, all good I say

Yes it seems rather harsh treatment to suspend and recommend the de registration of someone on small amounts of bets, when you consider how long the Manly 4 got away with alleged betting and match fixing, and non of them were every suspended, but now mostly retired. Kieran Foran's gambling problem is well publicised … so its got me thinking that there is more to the Simona story that what we know now. Im sure we will learn a lot more in the weeks to come.

The Beat 365 add says that Australia is largest betting nation in the world, every 2nd add on TV these days is a from a betting company, so no wonder people in our country bet.

Can't get over the fact that a bloke can be caught by police with cocaine (criminal offence) and he gets stood down for 2 games, are we serious here .. !! I don't my kids anywhere where there are drugs involved, certainly playing at a club a were a player has been caught in procession of the stuff.

I think the NRL will de register Simona, then the up roar from the members and supporters and fans of the Tigers might be the faith of Lovett .. in my books that's around $500K we will have left in our kitty to play with.

Where do we go from here, let's go after Jordan Kahu or Dale Copley to fill a vacant centre position !! Kahu is the player I'd go after he's big, can play fullback, wing or centre .. and he goal kick !! He is currently not in the starting 13 for the Ponies .. if he wants a starting position it's his !!

I don't see where it says he placed bets on himself or on Wests Tigers games…lot of assumptions there...so running with that theme..

What if the alleged bets were on opposition players.. :astonished:

Many miss the point it is not the size of a bet ..if these bets are successful well human nature kicks in lets make a bigger then bigger bet then all of a sudden that person becomes beholden to a third party this is when match fixing rares its ugly head .Quoted in the SMH Simona was dobbed in and was betting in Tigers games ,if anyone thinks because of the size of the bet it is OK think again this type of behaviour is at the decrement of the team as the certain player plays for himself for monetary gain! The size of the bet is NOT the issue.

Totally agree, betting on games your'e playing in is corruption. He needs to be suspended if found guilty.
