Todd Payten...

As soon as Taylor publicly bagged his players in an open forum, he's a dead man walking. His press conference has been replayed about ten times this week on different nrl shows.
The players know he doesn't have their backs, do they don't have his!
You can't blame them…

Youre serious him saying we need to be tougher, play tougher, train tougher…equals bagging them?

This generation are so soft, cannot be critical, accept no responsibilty, its always someone elses fault.

Pathetic

1Tigers line up replacement for JT

Todd Payten’s name is being freely bandied around at the Tigers as the club sharpens the axe on coach Jason Taylor.

The Tigers are in deep trouble after starting the season with two straight wins and I’m hearing morale in the camp is at rock bottom.

They will give JT until at least round 10 before fully assessing things but Sunday’s game against the Storm at Leichhardt shapes as a massive one in the Tigers’ season - and Taylor’s career.

The Storm are vulnerable and below strength - and the Tigers are always expected to muscle up at Leichhardt.

But another loss will see the pressure mount on the board to make changes - and soon before the Tigers’ season totally implodes.

Ivan Cleary was always the name being thrown around should Taylor fail but I’m hearing the Tigers are now seriously looking at Payten.

He is good mates with new football manager Mark O’Neill and the pair were team-mates in the Tigers’ memorable 2005 grand final triumph.

Payten is also very close to sacked skipper Robbie Farah and knows the Tigers’ system inside out, having coached there as an assistant in recent years.

He is currently on the Cowboys staff but is believed to have a get-out clause if a top grade opportunity opens up.
http://www.sportingnews.com/list/4702042-the-lurker-wests-tigers-line-up-new-coach-to-replace-jason-taylor/slide/1

I read this article this morning but took no notice of it because it's a lurker article i'm still waiting to see him get something right with the amount of darts he throws

I personally rate "Rodney" as a coach and he has had success at U/20 level both and the Cowboys (I think they were one game away from the GF).

The question is that should he coach at WT? Can he bring the success that we all desire? I am not sure…I am confident of one thing about Todd Payten, players seem to want to play for him and he does appear to be a good man manager.

He may be an upgrade on JT but I am not sure if he is the coach we need?

Mates with the football manager , mates with the highest paid player the white ant ,if this guy was appointed coach my life time support for this club will end … this club only knows one way to go and that is backwards the garbage that many here spruik about runs on the board as a coach is just that garbage ..I will finish this post as if I continue I will be banned ..think long and hard about this one .

These players haven't made the top half of a 16 team comp in 4 years, who the hell are they to demand who they want or don't want to Coach them?
Well all be here supporting this Club when they've all retired, can't they just shut up and play footy? They haven't earned the right to determine who Coachs them, this is laughable

Some of these players are on their 2nd or 3rd Coach and still look to be struggling for success. You think some of these young guns aren't as good as they or we thought they were?

Payten is intelligent, articulate, was renowned as a very smart footballer and also has a fine record coaching and bringing through juniors. Now what would Weststigers want him when we can have Taylor?

Fine coaching record ??

Yes has a fine history with WTs and also NQ.

What about his fine NRL record?

Oh! right, he hasn't got one - another Rookie!

Just what we need.

Can't agree with this. He called it how we all saw it & the players need to know that. It wasn't a one-off performance either. The fact that he hasn't dropped anyone could (I hope) mean he is giving them a last chance to make amends - in which case he has their back.

Better than his pressers last year where every loss was a "learning experience".

McGregor, Barrett and many other coaches do this regularly ,lucky I was not the coach as they would of walked home from Newcastle after being fined by the NRL for the profanities that I let loose in the press conference, if these little precious dears do not like it go and play with another club.

I look at brad Arthur and Paul green. The later won a premership in only his second yr. Records mean jack. All Depends if the players want to play for you or not…

Paul Green has spent years involved in the Qld Cup as a coach with feeder teams to the Broncos and was CEO of Wynnum Manly in 2013 in the Qld Cup

Brad Arthur has been an assistant coach for many years with Manly and another club

And then lets compare rosters

Wests Tigers v Cowboys :roll

Wests Tigers v Parra

What players will Payten attract , we just discussed this in the thread I started in regards to coach v player

With fans like we have , this club deserves to die a slow painful death , to promote the old boys club like some are is utter madness

When will some learn ??

Settle down happy take a Xanax and lie down!
Are u serious Paul green coached some Queensland backwater, really that's your comparison??
The facts are the players aren't motivated by he scarecrow and like it or lump it motivation in rugby league is almost as important as skills!
I am happy for cleary or payten although cleary does still have his favourites, and he is a bit on the boring side!
Look at it this way happy u can alway go and support the mighty wynumm manly buccaneers ir what ever they call that mob up there!

Is there a bigger clown on this Forum than you seriously Lathami ??

Both Green and Arthur have coached for many more years than Payten

And anyone who thinks just bringing back more and more Ex Tigers is the key while there is still personnel they played with at the club is a great idea ask Royce Simmons and Nathan Brown if they agree

I've heard them both interviewed recently and they both said that was one of the major reasons for their downfalls in the end Royce was on Sterlo and Brown last year on Sterlo just after he had his interview with the Knights

But they are all wrong aren't they clown

It might solve our cap problems. O'Neill offers Payten a $1.7m a year contract due to his potential and outstanding record as an under 20s coach (despite the fact that not many of the players he coached have proven themselves as 1st graders), Robbie retires and becomes an assistant coach, who seeing the success of Toddy's white anting immediately embarks on the same program to get rid of him. Thank god we still have an independent board, if Pascoe or O'Neill dare to present this as an idea, they should both be sacked with no payout due to demonstrated incompetence.

No need for it to get so personal lads. I think Payton like any other coach in the NRL if given the opportunity ie 2 year deal will have KPIs if they are not achieved then like any other coach he will be shown the door… This boys club thing is nonsense. Its all about results. This coach (JT) i believe has lost the players. I am 100% sure Toddy can do the job, the boys will play for him.....

Why is it nonsense Haberfield

We've signed both Pat Richards and Dene Halatau back after they left as players

Richards wasn't too bad but Halatau is a bad signing

Now signed Buckets as football manager and are now looking at Todd Payten as our new head coach

Yep no boys club hey ??

Its funny how you rarely see other clubs buy back players who have left , but arguably one of three worse clubs in the NRL do it and do it regularly

I can understand both sides of the argument here.

if your scrapping the barrel you can't expect to purchase quality and if it's to be believed? Then we simply have no money.

I think it's a little unfair on Payten to be judged and criticised when his never been tried in 1st Grade, his had success at under 20's but obviously NRL is a different kettle of fish.

I think we need to totally rid ourselves from any old boys Club and players that used to play with each other and start a new culture.

The writing is on the wall for JT though, when the Club Employees Mark O'Neil to oversee the operations of the Squad? You know your Days are numbered.
