Top 4 or Bust...

We all know Taylor is not afraid to show players the door if they don't meet his KPIs. I think the JLJ comment was to give Brooks a kick up the arse…or JLJ has legitimately been ripping in at training and thought he deserved a mention.

Nothing wrong with healthy competition.

Marcus Kain mentioned a couple of weeks ago that JLJ had really hit the ground running and was one of the standouts in pre-season training so far. I would like to see him push for a FG spot.

We have to be in the top 4 or there abouts all year or I'll be howling. Im sick and tired of hearing the "we're constantly improving" line. The board and both CEO's have had JT's back since he walked into the job. He has gotten rid of everyone he didnt want and brought in he has wanted. He's got the coaching staff he wanted. He's had enough time. Anything less than a top 4 finish is failure and he'll deserve to be punted. Am I expecting too much? My oath I am! I'm sick and tired of the dribble from JT. Produce or walk!

He does need to produce, but saying top 4 or bust for Taylor is a bit over the top. Take away the last 5 seasons of failures, the clubs failure to reach their goals, and your general frustrations and ask yourself if on paper we look like a top 4 side. We have the weakest back row in the comp, short a decent winger and no goal kicker. Top 4 teams don't have those problems. And Taylor might have the coaching staff he wants, and the team he wants is probably slowly taking shape, but its a cold hard fact he's still operating with our a cap in horrendous condition. He needs a top 8 birth undoubtably, but i think its a bit much expecting top 4 with the weaknesses i pointed out.

I like his size, kicking game and composure. If his hard work also makes him a little sharper i wouldnt have a drama with him playing a supportive role at 6 with Moses controlling things at 7.

Re-signing JLJ was definitely an isurence policy re-signing. I think he'll be the foil for the remaining half if one of them leave.

I reckon Brooks will be the odd man out if one of the four leaves. JLJ would do a fine job next to Moses. A smart signing nonetheless, and JLJ probably thinks this is the inside track to first grade if he's resigned.

I could see JLJ doing a fair supporting role next Moses, but if he was paired with Brooks, I'd be worried.

No your not expecting too much! As fans we expect it every year!

I get we might not have the team on paper but, that is not a reason to excuse JT or the team, many GF's in many sports have been won by teams that didnt rate on paper.

Poscoe is an experienced guy and the board should have JT's back in public and Im sure they wont extend his contract if he doesn't at least get us in the 8.

I just think JT's responses to questions at times are odd and maybe that's why he comes across as a bit of a quirky character. Either that or he truely is an odd ball?

I think most supporters agree with you, TCL. Top 8 or no new contract. But, Chris is saying top 4\. I believe that's beyond our capabilities even if we had Wayne Bennett and Jack Gibson as co-coaches.

JLJ will get plenty of time in the top grade, he is under study to the 6 and 7, and they will cop a injury or two.

As for top four, well Iam all for setting the bar high, but really I think you can only take one week at a time and never look beyond the next week. Also from where I sit I would be delighted if we came 8th or better, but as we all know anything can happen, from total disasters to fairy tale endings.

Top 4 Finish is what Taylor and the team would want as well as us fans but top 8 would be a more realistic result ,the test comes when the finals start , if we make the 8 and get belted fist game in the finals I think Taylor will be gone as finals Footy is different and it's the coaches that need to get the players ready for it .
Option 2 could be the fact the club will look at Taylor and think top 8 in 2017 and with some new players added ,( top line players ) we could improve more with out changing coaches , but we would need to have Teddy , Mosses , Woods Tied up Brooks I'm not so sure but if he improves you keep him if you can , I would let Brooks go if I could get a gun Hard running Back rower or Centre for the same cash and also we need a goal kicker .

It's pretty obvious Taylor will move Brooks on and won't be renewed.
Smart move, we can't keep them all and he has showed the least progress.

I understand, and top 4 based on stats, player profiles and previous performance may not be realistic, but we should always expect our team to be near the top of the table at the end of season, especially in the preseason.

As the year unfolds our expectations may be adjusted based on performance and results.

I believe you represent the very moderate view on this issue and you have expressed it well.

No doubt that was aimed at Brooks. It looks like ke needs a bit a nudge.

If Brooks is going to develop like Moses and Tedesco he needs to come out of his shell. Might sound crazy, but i think it's his personality holding him back. Moses seems more extraverted and comfortable barking orders, Brooks doesn't. He's too laid back.

I reckon top six is a fair enough target, but can't see the club waiting around until our ultimate finishing position is known or even reasonably certain. We are likely to be making our bed up with "the big four", or most of them forming the bedding for a few years, so their opinions, rightly or wrongly for many, are going to carry decent weight as they have to lay in it.

The board, and particularly those from Wests have been around long enough to see the changes that from all reports have improved the club on many levels and the importance of the role Taylor has or hasn't played in them. For mine, most, if not all of parameters regarding his performance and future would have already been decided upon.

Either way, the most I think he should be offered is a one year extension.

Brooks has come back from off season knee surgery and is not back in full training yet. Hence the JLJ reference
