Tukimihia Simpkins #248

Answers a lot of questions.....we have a very young INEXPERIENCED SQUAD......but many seem to expect the coach to produce match winners every game.....unfortunately the NRL doesnt seem to work that way, only on very rare occasions do teams like Storm or Roosters have someone in the ranks NRL ready at any one time....

Perspective is a wonderful thing - the kid is 19, eligible for Jersey Flegg but has played KOE all season - anyone expecting him to come in and turn our fortunes around in the middle of the field needs to re-adjust their expectations. He has a stack of improvement left in him and will come good with time and experience.

Correct, and the only way to improve is to play more NRL games, the same applies to Tuilagi, Simpkin, Dias, Cooper, Hoffman, …
We given Packer, Talau, Nofoaluma, Tamau, Roberts, BJ, LL, Mbye too many chances!

Difference is all the guys you mentioned have had heaps of chances, they also are very NRL experienced as well as rep players....you cant seriously compare the kids to them....they will take time and patience to even get to NRL standard and we dont want to ruin their confidence or get them a long term injury just to satisfy an opinion...

ps exception is Talau...

Somebody stop this bloke from offloading 😅

Its every damn tackle and idk how he does it 😂

Keep em comming

Tuki Simpkins has 8 offloads from 23 career runs so far. Lot of physical development left for him but looks like his main skill in NSW Cup will and has carried into the NRL

I think Madge is doing the right thing with these young guys. He gives them a taste then drops them back to still train with the team and work on stuff they need to. When he thinks they are ready to get another run he brings them back in. The program is hampered by no KOE but he is bringing a few younger players through.
As for Tuki I think he is a future frontrower with an offload. Needs to keep working on his mobility and ball skills and will be great.

Good kid Tuki, very much of the Gibbs / Galloway tall build, but with a wicked offload. Good pickup.

I really don't see a lot of similarities between Gibbs/ Galloway and Tuki. Tuki is a lot more agile with better footwork and a stronger passing game, he is that mobile lock we have been looking for. He needs to work on his motor and fitness to allow him to get through more work, especially in defence.

Physically rather than playing style. Tall, big in the chest and a bit skinnier around the waist.

Tuki has a teenagers body ..if he puts in with gym and diet watch out , has the natural ability just needs the weapons!

Yep.

I found it interesting in the Cowboys game that you could hear through the effects mic the cows players yell out 'offload' every time he had the ball. Sure he is a former cowboy so they're familiar with his strengths but he's already being targeted as a weapon that needs extra attention in the NRL.

If clubs invest more defenders into the ruck to try prevent the offloads he needs to work on a quick play the ball so we can take advantage of the extra space by sucking more defenders in on him in the first place. That's when he'll be a real strike weapon, as opponents will have to decide what they want to defend against, and when you're forcing defenders to make a decision that's where errors and linebreaks can be generated.

The more that Tuki offloads the more defenders he will attract which will be a bonus if he does offload.

If anything its he’s very similar to the cowboys coach in play style. Ironic as that’s how we got him in the first place .

I didn't watch a lot of KOE this year, what is his passing before the line like?

I can't recall him ever doing that.

It is probably an area he needs to add to his game then.

Not writing the kid off at all but my unpopular opinion is he isn't ready for first grade yet. When he came on they started rolling us up the middle.
Seems to get caught out behind the PTB way to much

Needs to work on tackling style for mine
