You could go through the whole side they all made mistakes if we don’t beat the knights who I reckon are ordinary that’s when big changes should be made

It's not a case of "if" we don't beat them...we won't get within 20 points of the Knights - they'll towel us up through the ruck like they did both times last season.

Sadly you’re a fair chance of being correct. If we can’t get within 20 of a fringe top eight side, surely major changes are inevitable. CEO, coach or halfback ?

Problem starts with the halfback - he's been a constant for 7-8 years now. Yes, he's improved his defence a lot. Kicking game? Nope...Organisational game? Hell no. Add that up and what do you get? No finals...

I know there is a Brooks thread but just in reply to your comment about him. I don't understand what has gone wrong with his short kicking game. His long kicks have always been poor but he used to have one of the best short kicking games in the NRL. His defence has improved out of sight.

It’s interesting for sure. In the warm ups he is fine. I watched closely and he nails it. Come game time and that all goes out the window, panics big time.

Panics is right. That’s been the problem with his execution, rushing. I have no doubt that repeat set or score was on his mind when his first kick went over the dead ball line.
It was 12-6 and he just made a break I wonder if he was thinking here we go again, if I don’t capitalise on this I’ve failed. I’d say he worry’s about failure more than anything else out there.
This is my observation of the play I’m talking about. The end result was Brooks error but if you actually watch the play unfold.

(In the highlights you see the break he made and how that ended up with him putting it over the touch line.
His just ran about 50m. Passes to Liddle (Lucy was covered on the left) liddle passes over his head to Talau on the right. Talau has nofa about 10m away further right and decided to step inside to try and score. 5th tackle fair enough. Brooks after running in that break then runs to the short side seeing an option there. At that stage it was 3 on three but we had Brooks, Doeuihi, Nofa.
The ball goes the opposite way to Luciano Leuia who is still standing there flat with his hands flailing at the ref about the tackle tacking to long. Brooks runs from the short back to the other side, gets the pass off Lucy, looks left there is about 3 roosters and Joey / Kepoa about 20m away. Yes it was a poor kick but he would of outran the entire team 3 times in that one play just because he was the only one trying to be involved. The execution was out at the end.
One take away from it is he should be absolutely screaming at Liddle to get that ball when he was standing on the blind ready to receive it.

i was kinda hopeing we would see more young players be given a go at first grade this year in the starting side from day 1 instead we went out and bought roberts just so we could play older guys
than we choose BJ over Talau in the starting side

this is as good as this team is gonna get most our team are in there prime theres no excuses to be smashed by roosters and raiders

I well remember Benji going through this and his explanation was that when kicks are practiced you are calm, and rested or warming up. Then under game conditions although the same amount of effort is in the kicking motion, it is actually more powerful as the body is hyped up, and he needed to remind himself to kick softer so he didn't overcook it.

Could it be something that simple? That Brooks is so hyped during a game and can't reel it in?

You think after 150 games, many next to Benji, he would understand that.

I agree but who knows how much pressure he is actually feeling now it's all on his shoulders? Or if he gets so clouded he just can't think to reign it in?
I dunno mate just looking for reasons because something is causing it.

As I have said previously , the only other option is you do what Penrith did in the early 2000's ...blood juniors and you stick with them no matter what .....ok you'll probably end up with a spoon ...but you are giving your potential players heaps of game time and usually in the end they benefit

Apart from that we wait for miraculous recruitment drive in 2022 ......

It’s our only option really...
I think we have some juniors in our ranks who will become Elite players.(Blore,Simpkin,Simpkins,Laurie,Talau and Stefano)Until then our coach and recruitment staff really need to cut the dead weight and find which players are going to bring the best out of our talented juniors.
No top tier player will want to come here unless we can compete.
