They were all choirboys in 2015/2016Haha consistency 🙄.. Pricks!
I saw a post earlier this year on the forum speaking of the domino effect.
Because we have been short of players in first grade, we've called more up from nsw cup.
Then we were short in NSW cup so had to pull players up from the feeder teams there..
And then same with SG ball players being called up, it impacted harrold Matthews.
I'm not close enough to the junior teams to verify this, so I'd be interested to know if this is accurate.
If so, I can live with the results and look at it as some "short term pain for long term gain". Ofcourse many will shoot me down because it's been long term pain for years, but if the scenario above is accurate.. I can live with that..
Still funnyThats only the third time Ive seen that joke in 3 pagesđź‘Ť
Not to mention our record 8 games of conceding 40 points or more.Update on the comments from earlier this season:
WORST LOSING STREAK - As mentioned in the original post, this has been set unfortunately this season. Our new record is now 8, set in rd's 5-12 of season 2024.
MOST CONSECUTIVE LOSSES - Happy to say that the rallying victory over Souths allowed the club to escape setting a new record.
WORST ATTACK - The season 2024 attack increased in the final rounds and lifted the team's result of 463 points scored to our 8th worst. This is an improvement on what was anticipated 6 weeks ago, but 17 Wests Tigers squads over the past 25 years have done better. As the average score across a season for this club is 480.88, this season is below average and requires major work in the pre season preparation.
WORST POINT SCORING AVERAGE - In an update to the original post, the rate of 18.33 points scored / game was raised to 19.29 points score / game. This is our 9th worst average, with the disclaimer that one of those with less was a season where we played 26 games, skewing the result. As our unofficial 8th worst season, below the 25 year average of 20.06 points scored / game, we need vast improvement. The team with the best attack this year was the Roosters on 738 points scored @ 30.75 points scored / game. They are a 11.5 point better team per round.
WORST DEFENCE - The highest amount of points conceeded by the club in a single season is 746 back in 2001, a year where we played 26 games instead of 24. Unfortunately and as expected, we have broken this record and done so using 2 less games. Our new record for worst defence is 2024 with 750 points conceeded.
WORST POINT CONCEEDING AVERAGE - At the time of this original post, we had the worst average across our 25 year history. Unfortunately it has gotten worse with the Parramatta flogging and we have ended up posting an average of 31.25 points conceeded / game. This result is 7 conceeded points / game above our average across our 25 years and is a new unwanted record.
WORST POINTS DIFFERENTIAL - We were certainly heading towards complete failure and another unwanted record for this. Happy to report that our wins over Souths and Manly saved us from this fate. The team are certainly not excused though, as our points differential rests at a paltry -287 or in other terms, we had to score 12 extra points in every game we played this year to be even. The Roosters were positive 275 meaning they were a 562 points better off than us this season....4 converted tries per week!
WORST DISCIPLINE EVER - This is subjective but going on 2024 form, our 16 sinbins and 1 sendoff are higher than anything I can find. Having player put on report 33 times for 26 convictions is the second worst in the comp. We had players missing for a combined 112 weeks this year, which has us sitting 9th in the comp...8 are worse, 8 are better. Of that 112 weeks, 21 of them were suspensions. That is not good enough when you are coming off back to back spoons. Being the third highest penalised team only exacerbated the situation.
In the end, out of the possible 8 unwanted records that we were looking at, we did manage to set 3:
- Worst losing streak
- Worst defence (conceeding the most points)
- Worst point conceeding average
Worst discipline should likely be added but Id have to go back through every game of every season to confirm this and couldnt be bothered. Suffice to say, it was terrible most of the year. Lets hope they keep working on this as there was marginal improvement as the year progressed.
See table below for our results over the past 25 years:
