I seem to recall the club tried to contact him regarding a benefit night or something along those lines, but he ended up staying in NZ for a few years and so nothing eventuated.

I might be wrong but that's what I remember the last time the papers talked about his plight.

Poor of the Tele not to get a comment from the club.

It's how that paper operates. Trying to be fair and present both sides of the story is an inconvenience for them. If they rang up they might have got some important facts for the story. As I said above they don't seem to think it's hypocritical that News makes a mint from the game but the NRL has done sweet FA.

The NRL should hang their heads in shame.
Same over Simon Dwyer.

They were only goaded into doing something over McKinnon - would not have otherwise.

NRL are only about making money - not looking after the people who allow them to do that.

Wake up! Smith, Grant and Gold? whatever your name is. Do something useful - just for once.

The only player who the Rugby League public seem to give a stuff about is McKinnon. Fair enough, it was an horrific injury, but nearly 5 yrs later and poor Simon Dwyer still has his arm in a sling. What percentage of the general public would even remember him i wonder? Easily under 10% i reckon.

Did Adam Ritson ever get the outpouring of support McKinnon did? I don't mean to sound like a narc, but the way McKinnon has gone after the game recently after they've bent over backwards and done more for him then every other player whose ever suffered a serious injury combined, has soured me on the guy if i'm being honest. I've spoken to Simon Dwyer, and not a nicer guy you'll meet. If anyone has an axe to grind its him.

And the club only acted on Dwyer after all the hubub over McKinnon. If it took them that long for Simon, what hope did poor Tuiaki have?

The still has Simon on the books though don't they? It's not like they've said "contracts expired son, you're on your own."

It took them till after McKinnon's injury to have the fundraising dinner and to raise awareness of his injury to the rest of the Rugby League public.

That's the way…..put the boot into the bloke who will never walk again. Stay classy.

And you just continue to use him as a vehicle to continually bash Smith and the Storm.

What was that you were saying about staying classy?

Laughable defence gnr. I don't need to use Alex McKinnon as a 'vehicle' to rain crap onSmith and the Storm, their record speaksfor itself. The fact that you are questioning the motives of a bloke that was left paralysed by an illegal tackle speaks volumes. As I said….stay classy bud, great work. Disgusting and pathetic are words that spring to mind quite readily.

:rant :bawling

Thought this was about Tuiaki…I miss him greatly...

Agenda's pffft...

Where does the NRL draw the line though. Does every bloke who does a knee or a hammy at the end of his career and never plays again deserve a payout? You would think not. Shame that Taniela played the race/colour of his skin card in the interview as well IMO. Fair enough if he is not happy with his treatment by the Tigers or NRL but don't go down the racism path for attention.

I was so looking forward to seeing a wingers pairing of Taniela and Lote.
This would have been great for wests-tigers.

Feel sorry for Taniela, he could have gone on to being the best winger ever in the NRL.

I didn't see the interview. If he played the race card as you say then yeah it's a real shame. Unfortunately in today's society it seems to be the automatic fallback when something doesn't work out.

Was looking forward to seeing TNT and Tuqiri together with Benji feeding them :bawling

Still didn't Tuiaki get a career handed to him via the WT's with Allied Pickford at the time

No. But if punters can get income insurance, maybe the NRL put some things together to define who may be eligible and what critera need to be met to get it. I.e. Min years in NYC, minimum FG games and they get a standard payout based on minimum base salary or similar until they are 30\. Not saying it's perfect, but a start.

I didn't see the interview either Furious1, but it is there in the article from the Telegraph. Funny how it wasn't mentioned in the article that WT set him up with a job after his career ended (if they in fact did that) as many people claim to know that they did. One-sided journalism yet again by the looks of it. All the best TNT, you were a bloody joy to watch at your devastating best.
