Sad news. A champion from the halcyon days of sport, when players were characters and were great to watch perform. And they were interesting to hear about.Such an icon of Aussie sport, a real larikin in the nicest way.
Someone who players and fans alike wanted to be around.
I cherish the memories I have of this Australian sporting hero.
RIP Marshy
💔
I was about ten when Marsh retired. So only have vague memories. Think he maybe slightly ahead of Healy in batting. He kept very well to pace (Lillie/ Thomo-who was erratic) he has to fling himself around. He was good against spin but the spinners we had didn’t turn it as much as Warnie and McGillHe was a little before my time. So my primary school days were watching Healy.
How good was Marsh ? Batting etc? Compared to other keepers

I was only a youngster watching him play so memory is a little vague but main memory of him aside from his keeping was him being great to watch with the bat in the World Series Cup: he could hit the ball a mile and being a lefty he always looked cool doing it👍. His forearms were like tree branches. He was a little before my time. So my primary school days were watching Healy.

Jeff Dujon from the Windies was a very handy batsman as well as a great wickie👍. Liked watching him play. Cricket was a brilliant sport back in those days, I don't even bother watching at all now.Marsh was the first "attacking" keeper that i saw and changed the game
How did he compare with say Gilchrist or Haddin?Marsh was the first "attacking" keeper that i saw and changed the game
What drop was he?I was only a youngster watching him play so memory is a little vague but main memory of him aside from his keeping was him being great to watch with the bat in the World Series Cup: he could hit the ball a mile and being a lefty he always looked cool doing it👍. Read somewhere that he got the nickname Iron Gloves because early on in his career he used to drop a lot of catches. He certainly rectified that though: for a nuggety, grog-loving fella he sure could throw himself around acrobatically and took some spectacular catches.
Would've been great to have been amongst him, Lillee, Thommo, Tangles Walker and co when they were on the turps😀
