Offensively, Naiqama and Nofo are fine. Defensively they'd be the weakest centre/wing combo in the league. Will be targeted in the air extremely heavily all season.

You can't just look at players individually and pick a team, you've got to look at that entire side of the backline (including Moses) and ask what's missing. The answer is size. No-one over 6 feet, which even that is considered small these days.

Technique and positioning can overcome size, but there'll always be times when someone's slightly out of position and when giving away 15cm and 10 kgs they can't recover and the opposition score. Just a fact of life that big men will overpower a smaller man if given the room.

Kevvy probably deserves first crack, and being the incumbent that's ok. Chee Kam would beef up that side considerably and provider much greater balance to our attack and defence.

Addo-Carr, Peni and Milone are all around the 6ft mark but are not especially powerful. I'm sure they're reasonably strong but I can see your point. Addo-Carr probably looks the best prospect, went well in a average Sharks u/20's team last year but he'll need to get used to NRL level at some point. Rankin isn't tall but he looks strong and has played at a higher level for a while now in the Super League, he looks the likely 3rd choice behind Simona and Naqaima. Chee-Kam might go okay although haven't seen too many success stories of late when it comes to back-rowers playing in the backline, has there been any last couple of seasons?

Brad Takairangi is probably the only converted second rower holding down a permanent first grade spot at centre (although he may not this season if Jennings and Gutherson play in the centres). He was fairly good out there for Parra last year and set up quite a few tries with inside out runs linking up with Semi.

Isaah Yeo and Lewis Brown have both played quite a few games for Penrith in the centres over the last couple of years with injuries to Idris and Whare. They have both done solid jobs, particularly in defence.

Mitch Aubusson, Tohu Harris, Kyle Lov…never mind

I think Chee Kam could work at centre. He looked good there for Manly a few times late last season. He's got enough speed for the position and seems to be a powerful ball runner. I would probably prefer to see Rankin at centre with Chee Kam on the bench but that's mainly because I'd like there to be space for both of them in the side. I'd be surprised if both of them turned out to be duds, but this team is always full of surprises...

I wonder if someone with the frame of Terry Hill would still get a run in the centres these days. I guessing they may push him into the back row. He was a very involved player at centre. I'm thinking Chee Kam is similar in that aspect. Big but busy. Not big and waiting to choose his moments.

Peni is almost 6'4 but quite lean. Addo Carr isn't tall but is probably the quickest player in the squad. As Gus says, speed = power. Chee Kam has swapped between centre+back row throughout his career so it's not as if it's a radical change for him.

Rankin on the other hand has never played centre or wing as far as I understand. Why people keep thinking he'll get called up there so soon is beyond me. He's exclusively been a 5/8 - fullback his entire career. He is a 'utility' but its more that he's cover for 5/8 aor fullback and if needs be could maybe fill in other positions in the team.

Simon Mannering goes OK when asked to do the role

Peni may be lean but from what I saw he looked the strongest of the outside backs in State Cup when carrying the ball. I think he's physically the most ready to have a crack at NRL. Would like to see him given a go at left wing.

Rankin played a heap of centre in the UK I'm fairly sure

Possibly a game or two here or there when he first joined, but the vast majority was certainly at fullback. In Australia he played 5/8 or halfback.

Id pick him there for sure.

I take that back, seems he played fullback and five eight over there.

Still think he has the skill set to fill the role. But having not done it, more of a risk.

That said, most fullbacks could play centre you'd think.
