Watson Heleta and Marion Seve

Whilst we struggle to keep our kids and prospects, the Broncos can afford to have a backup centre (Copley) on $300k last season. With their TPAs they are in a different league.

We've a fire sale happening of our best young talent. Other clubs know they can come and get whomever they want because our club will wave the white flag.

any confirmation of this….

would be disappointed to lose him.

Not sure why we would release him, unless he has dropped behind a few, been told as much and decided to move on

Except if he has gone then we have released him. We wern't outbid we have let him go. Honestly he hasn't exactly been the superstar he was in schoolboys footy, injuries have played a part and so has homesickness from what I have heard.

I didn't see him playing FG this year and don't think he would have succeeded in Sydney

With TPAs, the salary cap is pointless. More than ever the big clubs are trading with one another or taking advantage of clubs with less money. You don't even need particularly strong or smart management as long as you have money - look at Parra. If you have smart management, it can make a difference - see Panthers and Raiders. Even then, those teams are disadvantaged financially.

What coups have the Knights, Titans, Tigers (last season's bottom 3 teams) made this off-season? Between the three of them, the only 'name' signing is Tim Grant. No surprise that these teams are weak financially and going through management overhauls.

More than anything, we should have secured some sort of swap for Seve, just as we should have for Martin at Penrith. Why develop these kids and then get nothing for them??

We may have let him go on account of being outbid (as we did with Taupau).
I'm not particularly concerned about losing Seve, but it's another example of the lopsided competition we're competing in. He's chosen to go home and sit behind two rep centres rather than compete for a FG spot at WT.
I don't buy the homesickness thing either, as he'd have been closer to FG at the Titans.

Have to agree - and while you cant ignore the fact that the Keebra boys may suffer from home sickness - if that is one of our feeder schools we cant allow it to be an excuse to release our talent when and if the the Broncos show an interest - otherwise we are on a hiding to nowhere.

my info is that seve and peni were told they would start the season in the ron massey cup and both spat the dummy. if u look at the players that will play nsw cup someone will have to miss out. my mate is friends with a staffer at the club. so it had nothing to do with been home sick or the broncos wanting him.

If they are being overlooked because a player like Milone has the jump on them, than I would do a dummy spit to!!!

The hardest part in running a successful club is keeping all the fringe players happy and interested, some loose interest very quickly if they do not see a pathway to the NRL

We can't keep letting players go just because they get dirty on a decision by the coach. Full credit to Taylor for being up front with these guys but don't turn around and release them. Give them a pathway back, tell them what they need to do and that they are still very much in the frame. Let them cool down, and within in a week they will settle, put their head down and work hard. Don't just say, ok see ya.

Yep - cant be easy. Clearly playing Ron Massey cup for us is hardly appealing and so not surprised either that they have asked for a release - if that is the case. If the club has granted it, does that suggest that they dont rate them enough to encourage them to stay anyway?? Must have an awesome NSW cup team this year.

If that's the case, then fair enough - especially as Seve was in the full time squad IIRC.

Wasn't there a whisper we are marginally over the cap, of course if so maybe the two contracts will balance the books.

Anyway I am with king Siro you just can not release every player because they have a beef, under exceptional circumstances sure, but for most of the players who want out, give them a clear picture what they have to do to make the grade and a time frame

If they rate him at Massey Park level and someone else wants him, that is probably a win for the club…
if that is the case.
That means that have all of Milone, Addo Carr, Hunt, Heleta, Rankin (as a three quarter) and probably one other ahead of them.

There was a line or two in a courier mail story a week or two claiming we needed to release players, which may make sense now. These two wouldn't have been on much (was Peni even a top tier deal?), but I can't imagine we'd have been that far over the cap ceiling anyway.

If we've got a guy in our top squad that is only deemed good enough for RM Cup, then it's common sense to let him go if he wants out - he's just wasting cap money otherwise.
Just gotta hope the talent recognition is on the money….

Chee Kam

If he was told he'd be playing Ron Massey then this clubs management need to seriously look at the standards. We had an awful nsw cup side last year, and Seve should have been a starting centre this season. No doubt.

Out of Milone, Addo Carr, Hunt, Heleta, Rankin you'd have Addo Carr and Hunt as your wingers and Seve and Heleta in the centres, with Rankin at 5/8 or fullback. Peni would be there abouts too - with one of the above to play left wing in nrl too.

Milone as perhaps a depth backup and Chee Kam on ht bench in NRL. If we let both Peni and Seve go then who are our nsw cup backups for when injuries/nrl callups occur?! Relying on NYC i guess? You need more depth at nsw cup level than simply falling back on nyc

To firstly be on the pathway of NRL they must have ability and show the club that they are worth investing in,it is a cut throat game hard decisions must be made, its no good hanging on to players that are at best State cup players and can't make the grade, you end up wasting money and missing out on talent that can make the grade.

Would suggest that if they would rather quit than prove themselves, they do not have much of a future anyway. From what I saw of Seve, he was still a major defensive liability and a long way off being ready for 1st grade last year
