As it happens I was planning to applaud him at his last home game. I've bagged his performances this season but I think I'm entitled to do that, and I was happy to acknowledge his contribution over the past decade. But you don't wear another team's jersey - it's just basic etiquette. He doesn't need me and he won't notice one fewer person applauding him off the field. And I don't have any issue with hm leaving; he's a professional and he's entitled to work where he wants. But I can't admire a man who has so little concern for basic professional conduct.

Put it his way: I wouldn't expect my colleagues or managers to turn on me if I told them I was going to work somewhere else. But if I spent my notice period skiving and dropping my colleagues in it, then started making calls for my new employer in the office, I certainly wouldn't expect much of a leaving do.

Geez guys it's been a hard enough season with the injuries, the poor form of the team, the clean out and all the ensuing drama, do we have to have even more hostility in these threads as well? Guys who are normally civil with each other are now attacking and rudely criticising each other over a simple difference of opinion - is it really worth it? And Trexx, sorry but you could not be more wrong. I am a Benji lover and hardcore defender. You can look up my posting history. Even in the most troubled times I defended him.
I NEVER wanted him gone and his defection to the Blues made me so sad that I was sick for days. I was unconsolable.

But this decision to wear the jersey is a public showing of indecency. It is very upsetting and seriously disturbing. I will not stand for that. Perhaps it is because I have invested so much emotional energy into him (including having defended him on here for so many years) that i find it completely inexcusable that he can do this.

Don't get me wrong, I will still look back at Benji's career and say that he is the most brilliant attacking weapon I have ever seen. IMO he is the greatest ever player for the Wests Tigers, Balmain Tigers and maybe even Magpies too (big call - but it's my opinion). It is just such a great shame that he has chosen to end it this way. The love affair is over.

I don't think he is. Whilst I also don't necessarily agree with Trexx, I think he is emotionally defending something he is passionate about, and implying that he (or myself, if that was directed at me) has no self respect is over the line in my opinion.

Whether or not you feel Benji had disrespected the club is up to you. It's your interpretation of the situation. However, with that being said, attacking the man on a personal basis (which you haven't necessarily done, but I've seen happen many times on this forum) is extremely disrespectful in return. We, as supporters, cannot expect respect from the players if we are not showing them the same courtesy. It's hypocritical. By all means, each of you is entitled to your opinion of the situation, whether it be your feeling he has disrespected the club or Trexx's feeling that this is a ridiculous and gross over reaction. However, the extreme abuse Benji is suffering over this is over the like and IMO needs to stop. After all, he is still a Tiger and we should be treating him like one.

However if you get out from the bubble your in you might the see the tide of public opinion is heavily weighted against Benji. It aint just Tigers fans by any means. It's respected sports writers and journo, and other clubs fans and rugby union fans. His form has been ordinary (actually beyond ordinary) and some of his actions have been that of a spoilt so and so.

I used to give the benefit of the doubt, and to be honest I really don't care about this jersey thing. However to me his effort have not been there this year pure and simple. Missing the captains run on the Gold Coast to be in Auckland to be is pretty ordinary.

Fans are just calling it as they see it, there is no agenda. I think you will find 80% of public opinion agree with Tigers fans on this forum. Your probably in the minority by a fair bit.
