We Have Gone Down The Wrong Path

We are going down the right path however, we need to inject some quality first graders into the back row and centre positions. A reserve utility hooker/back rower and we will get much better.

We simply can't run out with Sirro, lawrence in the back row and Nofo and Hoeter in the centres and expect to win games.

Agree with you TYGA but would add Moses to that list. I'm not as forgiving as some others so hamstrung by tactics or not, he has shown nothing. Unfortunately not all good juniors turn into good NRL players ( Jacob Miller) and I'm yet to see what justifies the love for Moses. Tedesco ,yes and Brooks probably but Moses has me worried.

The club is 1.2 million under the cap this year paying back debt To MR Sheens and co at least we are still around its been hard since 2012 when the club went way over budget but that's life

Paying sheens wouldn't be included if we the cap would it? This is just the fact that we can't afford to fill our roster?

Im inclined to believe it and have said as much to other forum members.

We get a grant from the NRL. most clubs spend that on players, we first spend it on unpaid coaches and other things the club can not afford to pay off its own bat. Here lies the trouble we supposedly have with the salary cap.

Its not that our cap is a mess its that our grant is used for other reasons other than signings.

And realistically we won't be in a position to recruit quality players until we are completely out of the red and well in the black..the thing is ..how long would it take considering the mess that has been left…the other factor is,if we start winning games and the memberships increase and gate takings, merchandise etc increase, then the scenario looks a hell of a lot better...

Wow really? You didn't want to re-sign players from a premiership-winning NYC team?
Nofo
Koroibete
Jacob Miller
Jesse Sue
Mosese
Luani
Lovett
Nathan Brown
Brendan Santi
Sitaleki
Manaia Rudolph

Not all superstars but decent footballer, and cheaper to sign early than later. The opposition in that GF included Edrick Lee, Cornish, Shannon Boyd and Anthony Milford.

The 2009 NYC team included Rob Lui, Woods, Dwyer, Fifita bros, that turned out to be a decent batch too.

I think we just need to keep the right players on the right money. Look at the players listed there. Heaps of quality options.

Koroibete would make a significant different to our weakest area.

Nofo
koro
sue

we kept two of that three and purchase of Richards pushed koro out.

I've been as critical as anyone of Moses this yr, but the last couple weeks has made me believe that JT has the reigns on him and won't let him play his natural game.

This isnt even up for debate, its all fact.

Anyone judging Moses are in fact judging the coach.

Agree 100%.

Its just awful watching such talent get reigned in.

Totally agree let him play his natural game not Taylorball

Gould said it at the start of the season ..I hope these kids pure talent and excitement is not destroyed by modern coaching techniques , don,t like the guy much but he obviously knew what was coming ,all you need to make a Taylor coached team is tackle, tackle ,tackle that is the way to win games

I think that this though was a really bad decision with hindsight. Richards is exactly the type of player that we want to be moving on and Koro is exactly the type of player that we need.

If we had a better backline than Richards wouldn't be a problem but in the context of our lack of speed he is a problem.

We just need some more flair don't we. I am not going to blame the coach for Brooks and Moses not performing as well as they should however I also don't think they have been that bad.

I'd be sticking with both of them for a while yet however they do need to do more.

We have to remember that whilst a most of the attention is on Moses and Brooks, these two youngsters have come into a team that is also full of inexperienced players.

I can't recall any team that has been so stacked with inexperience.
Even the youngsters that won the 2005 grand final were much better balanced with both veterans and guys who had played 100-150 games.

Moses and Brooks were always, and will for the next couple of years, have inconsistent performances.
Its going to be so even more considering the inexperience around them.

Unfortunately this is the path the club is on and I personally find it hard to criticise that choice of direction considering the potential of 4 or 5 of these juniors. We had to sign them up and with the cap, we had to let some experience go. Its not ideal, but now this path has been chosen, I firmly believe the club has to stick to it and hopefully recruit a sprinkle of experienced players over the coming years to better balance the team.

Its not just Moses and Brooks that have been thrown in the deep end, its Teddy, Sirro, Simona, Nofa, Sue, Naqiama, Lovett, Lodge…. so on and so on.

It is going to be a long road and it seems to be all uphill atm, but hopefully its all downhill towards the end and we have squad that can compete with the best.

Just remember that Brooks and Moses haven't got that experience around them like most promising juniors do when they are introduced into first grade.

No

The path we are following will lead us to the Promised Land

Do you honestly believe that? I would love to but unless we bring in some established players- in place of Brooks Moses Cherrington etc we will be expectant losers for years to come I believe. Not being negative on these young blokes at all, they play for my club and I wish only the best amongst our young fellas. Just think we may need to look towards being a club that rapes outherout her clubs playeesplayers instead of investing massive time and money onto playeesplayers that will just be cherry-picked by vultures in the future.

This is a bit of an about face for you FTB - you used to be a bit more positive.

You say "Not being negative" but you want to replace Moses and Brooks and to a lesser extent Cherrington (not really in the team) - if that is not being negative I don't know what is.

Moses is the real deal, believe me. He is not being allowed to play his natural game (we get a glimse every now and again) and he does not have the right team with him (there are players to be added when we have the cash - I'll say it again …When we have the cash!. At the moment we don't. We have to wait to be able to buy a couple of decent players; we have talked about this endlessly over the past few months. Nothing has changed.

Catch cry "Get the defense right and then take the leash off" - the defense is not right yet.

To get rid of (the best two future halves in the NRL) for a quick fix is ludicrous.

I understand peoples impatience and frustration ( I also am not immune) but we have not gone down the wrong path. The path half the forum want us to take is a cul-de-sac.

We are heading for the Autobahn (when we get to the entrance) watch us go!

Up you Mighty Tigers!!!!!

That may be true but at the moment we are more of a chance of heading down to Supercheap Auto.

Got to agree with The Tooth and a couple of others. I believe that some of you are blaming our problems on Brooks and Moses way too much.

Consider that he general consensus on this Forum is that we are short quality back rowers and at least one centre and winger. Many of you would agree that we are carrying some average 'plodders' in our top 25\. Also, we all know how young and inexperienced our Roster is, and on top of this, is the focus by JT on the 'new structure'.

Well then, its fairly clear to me that there are a lot of issues and the problems are a little more complex than whether Moses or Brooks have done enough or not in a particular game. Before writing them off you must consider that playing in the halves behind a team of 'plodders' is not easy even for the best, most experienced halves in the game.

As I have posted before about this season - if we go out each week and these young guys are willing to play with some heart that makes us tough to beat. If we can improve over the season, play some good footy and win half our games. If our club management stays out of the media for all the wrong reasons and we get some good culture back from the top down with some faith in our coaching staff - then in my view, considering where we have come from the last few years, the 2015 season will have been a terrific step on the right path.

Lets face it, who are you going to replace these kids with and how much will it cost you??It is a no brainer, it is the only path to take. Of course as other have said we have to surround them with harden NRL standard players and that in itself is not easy as most of these type players are settled and happy at their present clubs and when they are forced into the market place, they are in hot demand because all clubs are looking for those mid priced type players

Put Brooks into the Bulldogs team and he will stand out
Put Moses into the Roosters team and he will slay the opposition
Put Tedesco in the Broncos team and he will carve up
Put Sirro in the Manly team and he will stand out

All of them together in our team and you are seeing the results.

We would probably get there a bloody site quicker without the handbrake pulled all the way up.
