We Have Gone Down The Wrong Path

I happen to watch Taylor on the WTs website re "update"…the thing that really stood out for me is he has pushed the defend,defend,spiel...fair enough we need to improve in that area..
Then he says he is really disappointed that we didn't score points...now I'm not a coach at all,but have played many years of rugby league....to tell me he is disappointed we didn't score points has me confused ...is the team supposed to go out and defend all game,is the team supposed to go out and hope the opposition drops a ball,we fall on it and score or are we supposed to think that they have been doing attacking drills but aren't allowed to utilise them...he has me utterly confused...mainly because I was taught to attack and defend and if I got it right we score points...once again DEFENSE and ATTACK go hand in hand to win a game of football...could some one please help clarify what Taylor expects us to watch week after week..

Side note he was referring to the Cowboys game where we didn't score a point....

I don't like to say this but my judgement from Taylor's interview is that he is not phased about what anybody may think about his current coaching style. It would appears that he doesn't mind too much whether we can't at this stage score tries as long as the defence is improving. He didn't mention when he would be starting to put an emphasis on attack but it appears it appears we are currently treading water in that area of the game. My conclusion is that it may be towards the end of the season before our attack is up to standard Taylor requires. However if you want to see a good game of defence from our team it should happen tomorrow night.

We have to remember that whilst a most of the attention is on Moses and Brooks, these two youngsters have come into a team that is also full of inexperienced players.

I can't recall any team that has been so stacked with inexperience.
Even the youngsters that won the 2005 grand final were much better balanced with both veterans and guys who had played 100-150 games.

Moses and Brooks were always, and will for the next couple of years, have inconsistent performances.
Its going to be so even more considering the inexperience around them.

Unfortunately this is the path the club is on and I personally find it hard to criticise that choice of direction considering the potential of 4 or 5 of these juniors. We had to sign them up and with the cap, we had to let some experience go. Its not ideal, but now this path has been chosen, I firmly believe the club has to stick to it and hopefully recruit a sprinkle of experienced players over the coming years to better balance the team.

Its not just Moses and Brooks that have been thrown in the deep end, its Teddy, Sirro, Simona, Nofa, Sue, Naqiama, Lovett, Lodge…. so on and so on.

It is going to be a long road and it seems to be all uphill atm, but hopefully its all downhill towards the end and we have squad that can compete with the best.

Just remember that Brooks and Moses haven't got that experience around them like most promising juniors do when they are introduced into first grade.

That's exactly the point that a lot of us have been making,
In any other club two ( particularly Moses) small players would not have been thrown to the Sharks as they have been, no help to hide them in defence , as its almost impossible two two defence liabilities at once.
To me it seems that the club had so much invested in these two that they'll just keep hoping that they'll come good, and won't ever admit they were wrong until it's too late.
I hope these kids can get better, but they haven't shown it yet

Put Brooks into the Bulldogs team and he will stand out
Put Moses into the Roosters team and he will slay the opposition
Put Tedesco in the Broncos team and he will carve up
Put Sirro in the Manly team and he will stand out

All of them together in our team and you are seeing the results.

There's an awful lot of unsupported supposition in those comments, with the probable exception of Tedesco
Absolutely no evidence showing that they'd be any better,
Not saying that they wouldn't, but no one knows what hypothetically would happen,. The big difference is that other clubs drop players when they don't perform at first grade level.

WE Don't !!

No

The path we are following will lead us to the Promised Land

Is that [PL] also the "map of Tasmania"…...

Please tell me that's not the fabled" Map of Tassie"

Not much vegetation down there nowadays, particularly amongst the younger generation, for whom it is generally made barren and flapping around in the breeze.

I never thought I'd ever say it , but in hindsight , I wish we had signed the Walker brothers,
But we're stuck with him for another two years. So I hope he shows at least some progress soon.
( unless he gets clocked again)

In hindsight Todd Payten should have been given the job.

He would have been the better match for this crop of players. That said Taylor can get results too.

I understand peoples impatience and frustration ( I also am not immune) but we have not gone down the wrong path. The path half the forum want us to take is a cul-de-sac.

We are heading for the Autobahn (when we get to the entrance) watch us go!

That may be true but at the moment we are more of a chance of heading down to Supercheap Auto.

We would probably get there a bloody site quicker without the handbrake pulled all the way up.

We probably would but the handbrake is no cash - not Brooks and Moses or Taylor.

You are probably right Hap,but how many times do you have to be bucked off before you realise you can't keep getting on for the same result to occur…..

I wasn't going to bring it up, but I always thought that Toddy was the man for the job.

I don't see the value in these fascist psycho tantrum-throwing coaches. Bellamy had success, but with a team worth double the salary cap. Talk about a playmaker's options - Smith and Cronk had Ingilis, Slater at his peak, Folau, Hoffman. Brooks has Tedesco. At the moment, JT is holding himself in check and speaking calmly. See what happens if our losing streak continues.

I'm as glad as anyone that our defense was good against the Cowboys, but the word JT left out was 'win', and to do that you have to score some points, a run of 0-0 draws won't get us into the playoffs!

To put things in perspective, we played the Cowboys without Farah and Woods, and if Naiquama had grounded the ball over the line instead of fumbling it, we probably would have won, and if we'd won we would be calling JT a genius. So let's hope it works v the Titans.

Payten destroyed his chances all on his own. Hope he learnt his lesson because he will make a good coach for someone else.

I've criticised Taylor, mainly as he's coaching negatively and it's hard to watch. He's hinted that he's happy with the defensive effort last week and the pressure is on so let's see who he lets cut loose this week.

He seems to have a plan but in all seriousness would you play for a coach who is coaching in this style. Recruitment may be difficult (or expensive)

Anyone would do as long as he can tackle,
Whether he can attack or not is not a problem as W/t never attack.

Would've Could've , Should've . To put it in perspective, they had no attack with their origin players out, a fact not mentioned.

Get real, no one would have been calling JT a genius after that performance against a depleted Cowboys side. I was cursing in my seat long before the game was out of reach. Win or lose it ranked as one of the lowest games in the clubs history.
