We need a new coach and we need to lock it in now

If we ask the big 4 who they want, what would any recommendation be based on? Maybe we should get Mr Jenkins. Apparently he made quite an impression coaching a few of them in the Leichhardt Wanderers U/7's

They probably love to have JT as they know that there's no consequences for crap performances

Only 1 of the big 4 regularly put in crap performances.

I am not a JT fan but I don't think there is any coach who would have done much better with our roster, not to mention Simona.
Having said that, stature of a coach is huge. Their ability to command respect is huge. I'm not sure JT is that guy so I would want a new coach. But he must have those two attributes.

I don't think Payton is what we need. I would rather have JT before payten.

TBH I am dumb founded at the rumours that the 4 want Todd.

If I may add:
The fact that we haven't had a proper goal kicker or halfback for the better part of ten years, has truly impacted this club.
As a player, JT was a very good halfback and an exceptional goal kicker. At the very least I would expect him to be acutely aware of the importance of being really solid in these two areas. (It would be a very rare thing to see a team consistently playing deep in the finals without these two sorted.)
The fact that this has gone amiss is more than lamentable…someone needs to take responsibility and who are we to look to other than the head coach?

If Happy is right and Payten has been spending time on radio in Nth Qld making derogatory comments about the tiges, they should just play those to anyone suggesting he was suitable to be appointed. Maybe they could invite to him to an interview (at his expense) play them and then have a giggle before showing him the door.

Firstly..Moses seems to be improving his goal kicking …..

Secondly...this halfbacks ability to play NRL and step up from NYC ..

As said before,it's easy to blame the coach when people are in awe of hyped up potential.....

Payten would greatly increase the chances of a new boys club forming.

I would rate his suitability as 2%, JT as 50%, Cleary or Hasler at 55%.

I wonder if there are any hard nuts coaching in England that we could look at. Our team needs a coach that brings attitude more than they need a tactician.

Not sure Rankin, Milone or Curtis Sironen would agree with you… Taylor seems less inclined to flog a dead horse than Sheens was...

Cleary is not what we need. He is not established enough. We may as well stick with JT.
The only coaches we should chase are Hasler or Meninga. The players are young, they need someone who they respect and who has been there and done it all before them

I wouldn't touch Meninga with a 10 foot pole. Cleary has coached 249 1st grade games and he's not established enough?

On a separate note, I wouldn't want Payten because it would signal the return of the boys club

Maguire is being shopped around what thoughts with this name as he has not been in any frame ,an expieranced successful coach worth a look IMO if the job becomes available.

I've never really liked Maguire, but he might be just the kind of coach we need at WT. A disciplinarian who will put a rocket up the players when they dog it

Under taylor. we lost so many good players that have gone on and have turned their playing careers around. Siro looked good last night. Nathan Brown also good for parra. Akoula last week. Te marie martin. Ado carr , blake austin, even Farah looked good against ordinary newcastle team. Under taylor the best half back prospect in the game for the last decade (BROOKS) has gone backwards. why??? last week was abysmal and i think woods comments on nrl 360 tells you this is taylors last year… lets appoint cleary as a new coach with Payton as assistant. Payton takes over after 3 yrs, i think Toddy will be good for the halves..

We won't have Brooks next year so Todd won't be needed.

A couple players we let go looked good this weekend. Man, that is unacceptable.

Just listening to JT on the coaches insiders on the web site, he doesn't fill me with any confidence. His tone and body language leans towards a coach that has run out of ideas IMO.

Cleary's win % is about 48\. I am not sure that I would call that consistent achievement when you look at the calibre of some of the cattle he had.

Yeah because he wanted to play like a half rather than a forward. Is very different coaching the 20's to an NRL side. We need a coach that is going to change the attitude of the team and toughen them up. If the current players aren't capable of that, then whoever the coach is needs to look at who else can bring this culture to the team.

As I just said in the Big 4 thread, Cleary would continue the hard nosed "no nonsense approach that Taylor has introduced to the club but with better actual football coaching ability. I look to what he did at the Warriors as form of what he can do with an underperforming team full of young talent.

As to who would be good for the halves, I look for what form a potential coach would have in developing young halves to assist Moses & Brooks and as evidence to make my case I present …................... Nathan Cleary.
