Wests merging with Canberra?

The concept has been revived after a Raiders-Dragons deal with Carlton League premiers Wests collapsed.

it was campbelltown who have spoken with the raiders! The split is not at wt board level - but beneath that!

Good to see you support the nsw cup - and i must say i support the continuing existence of both clubs at that level - and while i support balmain - i am still undecided on the merits of one being the first-grade feeder team and the other missing out!

I do believe it should be done equitably - but joining with the raiders is simply not on in my view!

last time i looked the first grade players were distributed equally to both feeder clubs in the last couple of years with a mixture of local juniors from balmain and wests

yes wih that mix of juniors being 99%wests and1% balmain more like a monopoly than a mix.

thats real us against them stuff,we are the best because we got this massive area to choose from, what a load ,for you magpie dreamers that think Balmain are a roosters and dont produce juniors cast your mind back to last years grand finals Balmain produced 18 players all local juniors not bad.

Magpie Maniac,
Your JL is comparable in size with Parramatta and Penrith. Have a look at how many Junior Rep Comps they have won compared to Wests. Quantity isn't everything and Balmain always produce teams that are competitive from the 3 or 4 teams they have to choose from. :wahoo: :righton:

  wow this is going well…AGAIN..

Perhaps when the 'old fossils' retire or move on...WESTS Tigers can move fwd...

scorched, wests junior area 10 years ago was next to nothing compared to parra and penrith which has been long established and yes it was wests who proved quantity isnt everything when we beat parra in the grand final of sg ball a few years ago.i enjoy the wests and balmain marriage but for people to say its a 50/50 split when it comes to juniors going into first grade i must set the record straight.

For the Wests Tigers to be successful for the long term, the integrity of the Tiger brand is far more important than a few magpies fighting over a cold potato chip…

If this Canberra thing happens, this might give us a greater opportunity to poach some of there young talent?

the cold potato chip you refer to is the livelihood of the wests tigers wthout a successful western suburbs nursery the tiger brand you refer to is cactus and nothing but a mangey pussycat. :deadhorse: :deadhorse:

MM, I'll agree that Junior Development is the future of Rugby League, but it doesnt nessasary mean its the future for NRL Clubs…

unless you want to get your players in the future from the dallas cowboys or the los angeles lakers.then the juniors are everything.

Lol, yeah, fair enough.

I shouldn't have said "hate" anyway, too harsh, maybe "bickering" or "rivalry", I don't know…, it's "something".

I actually ignored his reply so I didnt offend him by telling him he is ignorant/brainwashed by the 'Tribal' hype which surrounds the Sydney based NRL Clubs.   I just makes me laugh everytime, you simply dont get it!

Clubs wont be able to finance NRL franchises in the future, as they simply wont be able to raise enough funds. You are both confusing the Junior Development process with your loyalty towards Wests Magpies and thier vast development area. Within 5-7 years, I'd say ALL juniors will be pooled into a draft mechanism for NRL Clubs to choose who they want. The IC breakdown has already mentioned this. :brick:

The financial future of NRL Franchises is in the Corporate sector/ownership. Football Clubs are too ignorant/passionate whereas in the corporate world, they will demand results and the best available players they can buy to ensure profitability to thier shareholders.

Wests Juniors are doing a great job within the Rugby League landscape, but they have little to no future within the NRL Franchise business… 😱pen_mouth:

We are probably in the best position with our CEO one of the very few who would have the credentials to be able to understand this as most clubs still exist with the "jobs for the boys" ethos. Can you imagine Doust, Osborne or Burraston surviving with their mentality towards profitability for their clubs?

wests have no future if we start getting our players from the los angeles lakers or the dallas cowboys but as long as we are getting league players to play league funny that wests juniors mean the world.
