Wests merging with Canberra?

Other than financial reasons for Wests Leagues Ashfield I cannot see any significant advantages of having one NSW Cup team. Wests Tigers only pay for there own anyways as it is. The NRL contracted players would still be training under the Wests Tigers and playing for the allocated team when not required for NRL duties.

Having two teams also gives more opportunity for late bloomers between the gap to NRL level that has been created by the NYC. It also provides another platform for NYC players who have not been picked up by a NRL club.

The major player (other than Sheens…) is Wests Ashfield. As long as they put money in the team will survive at this level. I dunno how long this will last though...

already discussed this. there are advantages and disadvantages

the advantages far outweigh the disadavantaged…the needs of the many can never be held above the needs of the few or the one.....spock out

On a side note, was at eaglevale st andrews presentation on sunday afternoon. Hazem el masri was there and was fantastic, also an nyc player from penrith who had come from the club originally. No sign of any wests tigers player, this was noted by many there and we all thought it was great to see Hassam but surely there is a wests tigers/magpie player that could of presented the best and fairest awards.

This club has produces Brett Hodgson, Chris Lawrence, Eric Grothe Jr, Jake Mullaney, Reece Simmonds,Robbie Mears, Daniel Heckenberg, Frank Pritchard, Ben Roberts, Mickey Pae, dean Collis and Blake Lazarus.

My sons's u16 side has 8 harold mathews players in it.

It is time the Wests Tigers recognise where their players are coming from and show some support at fuctions like this.

What crap! How is the club even to know when and where this junior presentation is to take place???

I'm sure Hazem didn't just turn up without an invitation!! Why did the club choose to invite him rather than a former-alumni or a Wests Player is more the point???

It isn't up to Wests Tigers to send reps to every junior league function in their regions unless they are invited to do so by the club - and if invited I am 100% sure someone would have attended on behalf of the club (despite it being during the players annual 4 week break)!

wests have more juniors and are actually funding their own side so it would be better for the joint venture if western suburbs was the wt feeder team. you know it's true.

the canberra magpies sounds good could catch on lol

It would still be Western Suburbs Magpies playing home games at Campbelltown Stadium with some players from the Canberra NRL squad in the team.

Not a good look for the oh-so parochial Magpies - to have their stocks boosted by Canberra rejects!!!

They regularly talk up their talent base and want independence but are now entertaining getting into bed with a top grade rival! How soon would it be before they become a genuine-feeder team to the Raiders???

The fact the Magpies bosses are even possibly resorting to this is embarassing to say the least!!

What about the regular Magpies players who all of a sudden are out of their spots because a Canberra first-grader has been dropped or an injured Raider is making his way back??? That will create a really sound playing environment indeed!

And that is what would have to be enshrined within any such agreement with the Raiders - that their players got precedent over locals when demoted etc!!! As such - the first thing that goes out the window in that compromise is Wests being able to be truly competitive!!!!

Wests (Campbelltown) are being petulant and pathetic if they are are genuinely considering this mis-direction!!!

if it happens then you can blame the wests tigers for it happening

It would be like if a Roosters player gets dropped to NSW Cup and takes the spot of a BRET player (under a pre-determined contractual agreement with Easts)!

Or if Wests Tigers player got dropped and played for Windsor - you flip!!!

Please think before defending the indefensible alien!

Your mob professes to be proud - but this reaks of desperation and whoredom!!!

Ryde-Eastwood has always been a part of the Balmain junior region - can't you find a partner not aligned to an NRL rival that is not only far from local but is not even in NSW!!!!????!!!

u dont get it. without nrl squad players any nsw cup team are going to struggle on the field. what r they meant to do???

I disagree - Wenty have been a top side for several seasons with hardly a Parra player in their ranks! They did miss Horo this year when he finally got a belated shot.

Balmain's best this year were the likes of Farlow, Gower, Carr, Ryan, Vunakece, Callaway, Lane, Nicholls and Bennett who were not even blips on the first grade radar!

Wests had the likes of A. Fifita, Moors, Daniela & Fitzy join them when available in 2010 - but it was Waters - Corby - Ranieri - Davis - Pritchard - Falcone - Kepa & Everingham who stood out all season!

Souths Logan didn't benefit when Canberra was changing halves every 2nd week - and nor will Wests if they make this deal with the Devil and allow themselves to be the sandpit for developing the next Raiders half in Campo's absence!

I actually cannot see this going ahead becaused I thing the Raiders as an organisation have more class than that! Cambo could look towards Ashfield to learn some lessons!

Well Wenty are Parra's feeder club so they must get players from the Parra squad and if there is a Wests Tigers NSW Cup team then that will be the feeder team for the first grade side and alot of Wests Magpies' best players will leave if they aren't a feeder club for a NRL team. Without NRL squad players they will be disadvantaged every year no matter how you want to spin it. So yeah I wouldn't blame them if they accepted Canberra NRL squad players to play for them.

It will compromise the integrity of team selections as you will be contractually required to accomodate their NRL rejects no matter how bad they are - just to keep them match fit!!'
'
Good luck - but I sincerely believe you will be even less competitive if it were to go ahead! Canberra have very little quality outside their top 20 players!

It also might make Wests TIgers think twice before making another stupid decision.

That is just the sort of petulant crap that has led to this marginalised thinking!!!

The JV should let you rot in your own filth if you perpetrate this type of ransom-based pirate-nonsense!

This does nothing to assert your rights within the partnership - it shows you to be unable to stand on your own feet!!!
