Why is anyone thinking the Momo-Grant trade is off when nothing of the sort has been suggested?

I Genuinely have no idea what can please some of you on here. Seem to be very hard markers.

We have taken a squad with 13 players with first grade experience (out of 18). Which is high for any club.

We have a good mix of Finishers for a 9s format.

We have not risked our starting 1,6 or 7 for the season (no injury), which is smart.

Have a look at Canberra or manly if you want to see a poor side.

I guess that means the swap with Melb is officially off? No way he plays (risks injury) if that is still close.

Grant in storm squad too

Hmm, would seem it is off then.

Neither club would risk injury to players if the deal was about to go down. It was supposed to be all signed and sealed by now.

Really disappointing. Heading into the season without a specialist hooker will make things a lot harder for us.


We’ll see how Walters goes at 6, ? Maybe Benji plays the 2nd half at 9.? If it’s not working, I’ll need to downgrade my top 6 finish to another 9th??

It's still a makeshift solution. Such an important position too.

Don't sell Walters too short. He will go very well this season at hooker. Also at least we have a decent goal kicker.

I've only seen him play the one game so i'll reserve judgement. Are you referring to Momo as the GK? I would have assumed BJ and MM will be the centres regardless of what happens with the trade (although could be wrong).

Matheson Johns? - any info re Position, Age, Inside thigh measurements .. oops! sorry, I meant Height and Weight?

Listed as a centre, Dragons 2018 Jersey Flegg player of the year, played NSW U20’s in 2018, and NSW Residents last year. Supposed to be good but has been at a few clubs now

Thanks JC - according to https://nothingbutleague.com/player/matheson-johns/bio/ his last club was Penrith and he turns 1 just after the Start of Round 1 2020. Nothing like getting them young, I say.

I hope we can be the beneficiaries of other clubs writing him off too early. Personally I don't think you really know what you have with a player until he's completed either 50 first grade games or pre-primary.

I think that Momo will be somewhere in the first grade team and if so I think he will be the goal kicker.

Exactly. Both clubs and players want the deal. it just isn't done yet so they can't play for a team they're not contracted too yet...

The only possible spine is

FB. Thompson
5-8. Walters/Mbye
HB. Madden
HK. Mbye/Walters

That's it. Somehow in a squad of 18 there are only 4 spine players in total. 5 if you add Talau. Would be a perfect time to blood Simpkin. Speed out of hooker is one of the key requirements to be successful in nines.

This squad just doesn't make sense, other than wrapping up our good players in cotton wool for the main trials.

Nice that Johns is there though at least.

Maybe Simpkin is staying home to work with the other members of the spine?

I think that Momo will be somewhere in the first grade team and if so I think he will be the goal kicker.

I just don't see where he'll fit into the team. Might be wrong.

There is that name Matheson Johns. Big things touted for this kid. Hope he might be the smoky for this season

Who knows. I remember we fielded a kid named Ben Marshall at the 03 Sevens. I’d never heard of him, but he turned out ok.
