Wests Tigers are divided, says Fifita

Flanagan seems to be a smart operator in the way he handled the situation

Couldn't agree more. Pulled his players head in, lets focus on the game and away they go. He is turning out to be at this early stage one very smart coach in control of his club.

I think a few on here would have egg on their face after some of the things they said about him in the off-season

Fifita was, and still is, entitled to his opinion. I think he's learnt that if you're going to talk a bit of smack, cover your bases otherwise you could be made out to look silly.

He'll probably be a little more careful about what he says next time I'd imagine.

Yeah must admit myself that I thought as a new coach he would struggle to keep some of the wilder players in line Suppose it helps when you have Gallen there as well

But it is only round 7 …..

He's going OK onfield…..has put away the fend and is running more direct.
Looks like he's been coached this year

Gallen has realy matured the last couple of seasons. I'd no longer classify him as a grub like i would have say 12 months ago even

Yeah if it didn't come out that way that's what I meant GNR he is a leader at the club and I wouldn't go against what he said

Coach irked at Fifita for pulling Tigers' tail

CRONULLA coach Shane Flanagan has admitted he wasn't too impressed with Andrew Fifita's recent post-match comments slamming the Wests Tigers.

Fifita has done all the right things on the field this season but his recent attack on his former club on Channel Nine's The Sunday Footy Show didn't sit well with Flanagan, who said he was planning to talk with the prop before the clash with Parramatta at Toyota Stadium on Sunday about his recent choice of words.

After last Saturday night's match against the Dragons, Fifita, clearly buoyed by his side's 12-0 win, took a shot at the club he was not wanted by last year, criticising the relationship of the playing group at the club.

''We have an unbelievable bond [at the Sharks], we're so tight,'' Fifita said. ''Compared to the Tigers, everyone is so tight. We have the same dressing rooms, it's just more of a friendship. We're all just brothers and it's no split groups, no nothing, it's who we are.''

Flanagan was delighted Fifita was fitting in so well at the club but he wasn't happy that his front-rower brought the Tigers into it. ''I wasn't real happy and I wasn't real comfortable with having a shot at the Tigers,'' he said. ''I think Andrew, if he had his time again, he will try and have the focus on us rather than them. But he understands he put his foot in his mouth there. He's a young kid, he'll get over it.''

The Tigers didn't retaliate but Fifita's comments would've no doubt angered those at the club.

While he was critical of the 22-year-old, Flanagan defended his prop, believing he wasn't able to express the way he was feeling.

''I think Andrew was trying to show how much he's enjoying his time here at the Sharks,'' he said. ''He probably shouldn't have said what he said. In hindsight he's not critical of the Tigers, he's just showing how much he's enjoying his time here.''

Fellow Tigers discard Bryce Gibbs hasn't played a lot of football this year, plagued by a hand injury, but Flanagan said he's been invaluable to the squad. ''As much as he's brought to us as a team on the field, he's added off the field to us as a playing group,'' Flanagan said.

''He's added to the bond within the playing group. I think that's really important.''

I wouldn't say it's the most convincing explanation I've ever read! I think AF meant exactly how it was presented and he's been told to pull his head in. Anyways I think the whole thing is slightly overblown. Everyone always talks about problems when you lose and everyone is always best mates when you win. It's the story of life as well as football…

I have no problem with AF's view on the locker room at all. It is his opinion and he is entitled to it.

I dont think the bloke is a knobhead at all. That was clearly evident with his behaviour when we played them in round one. He spent time talking to the fans - Tigers fans, after the game and mixed with all of the players.

If the Sharkies have a culture where they all hang out together and have barbeques together good on them. It is not a pre requisite for success. Sometimes it is good to get away from your work collegues and enjoy the other facets of your life.

You could clearly see in the second half last week that the boys do care about each other and their collective fate this season with their heroic, never say die defence. They stood up for each other and didnt let their line concede tries. Broncs had to resort to plan B to get the cash. Lockyer spent 50 minutes during the telecast telling us all that it was only a matter of minutes before the flood gates would open. THEY NEVER DID!

I'm with you , stryker - time to cut him some slack.
If he puts in the effort he will be our biggest loss - not Gibbs

Did you know that if Andrew Fifita married his girlfriend and if she forsook her maiden name she would be Nikita Fifita?

The point of that post is that people should stick to topic.

Pretty sure GNR is talking about Flanagan as coach and not Fifita's on field exploits(which aren't anything he didn't OCCASIONALLY produce at the Tigers).
