The popularity of the Wests Tigers was very evident at a ‘Come and Try Rugby League Day’ at Loseby Party, Bowral.
The home ground of the Bowral Kookaburras in the Group 6 Junior Country Rugby League was swamped with more than 300 young children who enjoyed the opportunity to meet players from the Wests Tigers NRL squad.
Junior rugby league clubs Mittagong Lions, Moss Vale Dragons, Bowral Kookaburras and Robertson Spuddies also set up marquees to encourage children to join their clubs.
Country Rugby League Development Officer Scott Borg said the afternoon was an outstanding success.
“The response we had to the clinic was amazing. Everyone was excited to see
the players who were more than willing to take part in the sessions and have photos with the kids,’’ Borg said.
“We like to thank the Wests Tigers players for coming down to the Southern Highlands to help promote junior rugby league in the area.”
Wests Tigers footballs, posters and balloons were handed out along with membership brochures before the players sat down for an autograph session.
The clinic was all part of a two day Southern Highlands Blitz being undertaken by Wests Tigers. Tomorrow (Tuesday), the players will visit several schools to speak to children about junior league and the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
Wests Tigers will visit the following schools tomorrow
Wollondilly Anglican College, Hill Top PS, Colo Vale PS, St Thomas Aquinas, Bowral PS, Mittagong PS, St Michael Mittagong, Moss Vale PS, Moss Vale HS, Robertson PS.
The players will then back up to do it all again at the annual Balmain Blitz (Monday, February 6) and Campbelltown Blitz (Monday, February 13).
