Wests Tigers confirm Jason Taylor as new coach

I'm confident in Taylors coaching ability.

Im confident in Taylor's coaching abilities as well. Hopefully since his last NRL position, he's learned a lot on how to conduct himself around players and how to be a man manager. If he has those departments in check, he'll have some people's faces covered with eggs as he is a brilliant rugby league tactician.

The plus for us is that Taylor grew up in Sydney SW region. He knows the people, he knows the culture and knows what is expected from him. The people in the Valley are very different from everywhere else in Sydney. I've lived in the Valley, went to school there for a few years and coached junior rugby league there. It's a place where men are men and there's no room for pretenders and phonies. You can expect him to build a very tough, no nonsense football team. He'll weed out the crap and expect 100% from every player.

What you may not know about JT is that he sponsors an under 6's knock out for every team in the Valley and has done so out of his own pocket since he made first grade. He attends this knock out every year and also a lot of the junior rugby league in the Valley. This could have been a big plus for him getting the job because he knows the junior league structure inside and out.

I'm not a fan of his appointment yet nor am I a critic of it. I'll be playing the "let's wait and see" game. As I said earlier, if he's learned from past indiscretions, he'll be very valuable to us.

Only time will tell.

A poor appointment in my view, one that you can only assume was driven by the Magpie Board Members. Ejected from the SCG for throwing cups of urine in the air during the Mexican Wave, not having the common sense to make himself scarce on Mad Monday etc.

The Club had the opportunity to free itself of the past and create a new, unattached culture, free of the Sironens, Roaches, Leeds, Paytens etc. Anthony Griffin would have brought not just a good coaching brain, but a new group of assistants and most importantly, a mature, no nonsense approach, without having to pay homage to any political masters

Having someone with more money than sense seems to be our only long term hope

I feel as fans we value loyalty and attachments to old clubs far more than others involved in the game. Current players and coaches are more interested in pursuing success where ever they can get it I would suggest that Moss may have endorsed Taylor for the coaching position because they have a had a good working relationship previously - and for this new system to be successful the GM and the coach have to be able to work together. Been a long time and a lot of clubs in between since Jason Taylors time at Wests - not suggesting either that he may have linked his past to the club when conveying his interest in the position - anyone would. Some will stir the pot about it - but doubt this appointment had anything to do with where he came from more about where he can take us.

Unhappy Willow ??

I'm not sure what to think at this stage

He is not my first choice , but he is not my last choice either

Money probably came into the decision as well

We've got to be prepared to give him two years , he needs to see what is worth keeping and deadwood players retention wise and then get some of the players he wants

I'm prepared to give him and Moss a clean sheet :sign:

Forgot to add , Welcome to the Wests Tigers Jason and Phil

pretty much summed up my thoughts happy.

giving the whole club a clean sheet starting with the appointment of the new board and marina go.

so far so good

😛ray: :sign:

Therell be some knotted knickers being untwisted by the nancys mums next wash day…FFS we are a precious bunch here, lets try and be true to what it says at the top of the page*, at least until the first balls been kicked- or the first loss.

Lol, yes we are indeed, Ink, but let's face it, this club has put its supporters through a lot of crap. Can't blame people for being skeptical I suppose.

While no one can tell how a coaching appointment will turn out, there are more positives with this appointment then negatives.

Taylor did very well to get Souths to the finals for the first time since they returned. Clearly he had some issues that eventually caught up with him but he hasn't had a problem for years now where he has been a successful assistant and lower grade coach. I think It's fair to say he has learned from those issues and is a better coach for it. Not to mention what he has learned the last 2 years working at such a professional club like the roosters.

I'm a strong believer in the best coaches being those who had to study their own game as well as others to milk everything out of their own ability to make it. Taylor fits this perfectly. He will have an enormous effect on Brooks and Moses. If Taylor can pass on the work ethic he had as a player to those 2, and teach them how to make the most of their ability then we will be in for one he'll of a ride.

Let's hope the players just dig deep and give it everything and we will be fine.

I think "fickle" is a more accurate term that comes to mind when it come to our fans.

Sos me KS….I think the timing for him coinciding with the timing of a lot of our young players, like brooks touch wood will be pushing for nearly 80 or 90 FG games by the end of JTs 2nd season....it seems a good fit to me

He probably will be what is needed for our young halves .
While he did lack speed , he has a good football brain . And as far as the off field stuff . I think he will stay out of that . We all learn from mistakes . Hope he's given a fair go by the knockers.

How has this info even got into the media. Jerry Seinfeld here would have us all believe that Emperor Mayer has "fixed" the issue of leaks from the boardroom.

Thats the biggest worry in all of this news…the leak is still there.sheez!!..obviously it wasn't Potter!

Please don't mention the M word or all he'll will break loose

Could have been from Taylors current side. I'm sure he would have informed them.

I think track records speak volumes in this instance.

Please don't mention the M word or all hell will break loose.

Positives for JT

* Has been a head coach at Parra and South and had some success at both as a rookie (took Souths to the finals and won some games at a Parra team tha were going awful)
* Has worked for 4 seasons at the Chooks under Robinson (premiership) and Smith (GF)
* Has been at the coal face of NRL coaching for the past decade (trends, tactics, dealing with young players, training methods etc)
* Is young enough to have the drive and energy to stay a long time ( not out dated)
* Will be great for our young halves (Brooks, Moses, Austin)
* Has a sharp tactical brain
* Has had set backs in terms of coaching which i believe is good for coaches

At first thought he has not my first choice. However he was not anywhere near the bottom (Parish, Kidwell, Payten, Folkes etc)

He ticks a lot of boxes. Ill wait and see how he goes but support the appointment.

Great appointment by the ceo and board. Taylor is exactly what we need. Very astute reader of the game, young enough to connect with the younger players but I think third time round wise enough to handle the likes of our elustrious Leader. The time he spent at the roosters and at origin and city country puts him in good step, he wont F this one up im sure.

Also Taylor is an old maggies boy, so he knows a bit about the club, im from the Balmain side but I much rather someone who knows the club than a Saint George ring in like Potter was or Brown. Hopefully he can restore the old fibro passion in the boys because its exactly what we need.

I think people are going to make too much of the Magpie connection. He played for them over 20 yrs ago. If anything, he'll always be remembered mainly for being a Bear.

I'd like to congratulate JT and welcome him back to the club. Definitely wasn't my choice but as I said before .. It wasn't a strong field so he may turn out to be Ok. He was a St.Gregorys schoolboy, played semi finals football at Wests and Norths and obviously has a good football brain otherwise he wouldn't have been at Easts for so long. He may well turn out to be a very astute signing and I'd like to commend the board on making the announcement sooner rather than dragging it out over many weeks. The more I think about it the more I like the appointment … I just hope everyone in the club gives him the support he needs to take us forward ... I am confident the new board will see to that.

Blocker stated many times before he got sacked from 2gb that unlike kidwell and Payton he has a contract for next year but he did have a contract with 2gb as well so who knows

What does he do here exactly?
Emptying the fridge of all food isn't counted.

Well it is done and dusted ,this club in the last month has been more positive and proactive than in a decade, Talyor as coach I just hope the demons have gone I really do and not the worse selection a positive appointment , Moss sounds astute and could transform this club to where I believe it should be at the top!. A month ago our memberships were gone fast forward when are they coming so we can get on the train for next season. I will not criticise the powers to be it is time the rubbish stops and we ALL support this great club ..a new era has begun forward into 2015 and beyond.
