Wests Tigers have an identity crisis

Galahs, are you a Wests Tigers fan?

Yes. I will be at the game on Saturday night.

I support the team, but it doesn't mean I can't have a differing opinion to the management.

I note you pointedly use the word "team", do you support the WT club/franchise?

or as others have asked, is your true agenda the return of a stand-alone Magpies club at NRL level?

if so, you fail to realise the value of the WT brand as a financial asset.

Here we go again.

I am happy with the Wests Tigers being the NRL team.

I currently do not think it would be a good idea to re-instate the Magpies in to the NRL. There has been too much invested into the Wests Tigers.

The most pertinent comment in all this is that Wests Junior League don't want anybody , including the NSW Rugby League, telling them what to do.
On the other hand they want everybody to do their bidding or be accused of selling them out…. :unamused:

I would like to ask one question, if the Junior League, WT, NSWRL and Wests Campbelltown don't want anything to do with the Wests Magpies Football Club, or want them running anything themselves, prior to this year (and my assumption there is prior to the appointment of Mick Liubinskas), then isn't it quite clear what the problem is?

Out of all of this, The only thing that becomes more and more apparent is that this is about the plight of the poor defenseless Magpie more than anything…
I have been here for a few years myself, Joined a long while after being only an observer, and one point I noted....
All of this seemed to really blow up around the same time as the Magpies chose to go it alone in State Cup and Failed!!
Co-Incidence????
I think not!!!

Currently….
Does that mean you did yesterday and will again tomorrow, But currently do not want the Magpies back in the NRL

I can accept galahs being pro-Magpies and pro-Campbelltown, but my question is are you specifically anti-Balmain and anti-Joint Venture galahs?

if not, then why not further your cause without resorting to attacking the perceived other side?

why not look at the dysfunction and infighting that exists and has existed in your own backyard for decades? problems that were inherited by WT.

the fact that Wests juniors wanted no affiliation with the Magpies group indicates the problem is with the Magpies in the south-west region, and not WT.

you keep referring to 4 games at CS, while ignoring that there are only an equal number of games at Leichhardt.

it appears you want special treatment, rather than the equal treatment you allude to, while taking no responsibility for the magpies getting their own shop in order.

I'd be over the moon if we saw a return to 6 games for Campbelltown, and 6 for Leichhard.

Yes their is/was infighting within the Wests Group. Yes this has caused many of the problems. Yes this needs to be fixed.

We'll have to wait and see if the Wests Tigers can wrestle any power off the Wests junior League. I currently don't like their chances.

in a perfect world (and its far from one) I'd love having the Magpies back in the NRL, based full time out at Campbelltown. I wont deny that.

But that's in a perfect world. The reality is we are the Wests Tigers in the NRL. One of the biggest brands in Australia and it would be stupid to throw that away. Instead I'd like to see the Wests Tigers nurture the Balmain and Magpies football clubs, with everyone working in the same direction.

Fact is no one cares too much about NSW Cup. but it is an important stepping stone for players. As a bonus it also allows two 104 year old clubs like Wests, Balmain, Newtown and Norths to continue running around. Its one of the few real links back to day zero and I don't see any good reason to get rid of that.

I think this wrong. Can understand the Wests Juniors, but the others:

1\. Wests Tigers - the football club is a shareholder in Wests Tigers
2\. NSWRL - Magpies field teams from under 15's to seniors. Can't see how they would want nothing to do with Wests Magpies
3\. Wests Campbelltown: they need a workable relationship with the football club

As mentioned before and referencing Galah's post about the primary issue in the area - there are too many competing interests with no accountability. Sort these issues out and one can only assume the next steps will be easier. The problem looks to be no one wants to blink first.

You've resorted to blatant lies now mate to try and win your argument.

I have never threatened anybody with physical violence. Nicve sneaky personal attack though. I like how its fine for people from your side of the fence to do so on this forum.

Due to a report made about my post it has been edited by site moderators.

As for using it to win a argument I would have to disagree. I have happily debated any issue you have bought up on this forum and it is you who dissapears whenever facts are raised that contravene your point of view. From all reports after doing so you go back to another forum and snipe about this one and how we won't engage in debate and when other people call you on some of your statements they mysteriously dissapear

Lets break down my post…

Mr Humphreys has put a nice spin on the actual situation.... mess he's helped create.

MY OPINION
\

The reality is the Wests Junior League refused to be affiliated to the Westsern Suburbs Magpies district club. The NSWRL allowed this to happen and I believe this alone is the number one cause for all the issues in the area. The NSWRL should have dismissed their board, put in an administrator. You cannot have a body running the game that isn't accountable to anybody.

FACT. This all happened when the Wests Magpies Seniors tried to roll the Juniors in under their umbrella. Guess who was heading the Magpies at the time. Warren McDonnell. The Wests juniors don't want anyone telling them what to do. That includes the NSWRL, Western Suburbs Magpies or the Wests Tigers. FACT FACT FACT!

THE ABOVE QUOTE IS ABSOLUTE FICTION

FACT
Wests Junior League DID NOT REFUSE to be affilaited with Western Suburbs Magpies
FACT
Wests Juniors sent an application for affiliation to Mr Kevin Hammond, Chairman and CEO of Wests District Club.
FACT
Wests Juniors waited over three months and did not get a response even though it was told the letter would be presented to the Magpies Board.
FACT
Wests Juniors had no place else to go and applied to affilated with NSWRL
FACT
Warren McDonell had nothing to do with it.
FACT
iI have the secretary meeting minutes to prove it
OPINION
When are these people at least going to tell the truth?

I have the Wests Magpies letter sent to the Wests Junior league back in 1999 by Warren.

I also have the reply from Julie Luke on behalf of the Wests Junior League rejecting the proposal.

I dont know about your claims. I know Kevin was in discussion with the Junior League. I know it started of well, then things went sour. I dont know the exact details but i can find out.

The question still remains, why werent the Wests Junior League affiliated in the first place?

Can't wait until next year when these types of threads are a thing of the past.

Well that is a simple answer Galahs.

Because unlike every other expansion of recent times the move to Campbelltown was all very rushed and disorganised to ensure admission to the NSWRL competition. No proper research, discussions and agreements were put into place because it took time that simply did not exist.

I imagine it would be very similar in terms of Central Coast League administrators wanting their own side and not a Bears transplant. It took years to accept that it may occur so goodness knows how the junior league of the macarthur reacted with minimal notice and no negotiating rights

We need a document library for all these letters and charters that people seem to have… It could even included the fabled JV agreement...

Im as staunch a Magpie as they come, but even i have a chuckle when this constitution business is brought up

For the love of god Galahs did I not just answer that.
What do you get out of muck raking.
I don't no or care what warrens proposal was, I wasn't around in that time, but I was when they agreed to affiate
They said yes we will affiate
They were ignored
I am a simple volunteer.
Seems to me it was your beloved magpies that stuffed up, but you still want to stir
You are the expert in all things Wests, you tell me what else they could or should have done.

Even if a WT NSW cup team is formed in 2013, it is clear that WT overall needs to re-establish its identity and embrace the south west and not be seen as a inner west based team that travels to Campbelltown for 4 games a year. The JV is unique geographically and its not simple. The nostalgic tradition of Leichhardt is special to WT but its future (juniors and growing population) is in the south west. All parties must work together to ensure its managed properly and co-operatively. WT is a strong brand and within that brand is a link to the Magpies and while that link is there i will always love Wests at all levels. WTFL
