Wests Tigers in secret talks to lure Waratah Ryan Cross back

I read today that the tigers have dropped off negotiating with cross in RLW but we will probably see him in the NRL next year as a few other clubs are trying to get him

Maybe weve learnt by now that buying old outside backs /fullbacks isnt a rewarding propsition
They dont get faster, they dont get less injuryies,& they dont get more enthusiasm as they age
Parra bought a brace of them this year to plug some gaps,& theyve hardly played 1sts

With the NYC squad and our signings, we've got plenty of depth in the backs. I don't think we really need any more so I'm glad they let Cross go.

Another prop would be nice though.

Blair, Gallaway, Begovitch, Groat, Woods, Ellis, Murdoch-Masila et al. How many do you want??

We need another centre or two (big ones)and a fullback.

Well 3 of those are 2nd rowers, but you also missed Bell. So, for 4 spots (incl bench) we have

Galloway
Bell
Groat
Woods
Begovitch

Outside Backs, again for 4 positions, we have..

Lawrence
Ayshford
Lote
Utai
Ryan
Koribete
Reddy
Grant
Daniella
Simona
Nofoaluma
Brown
… and probably Siro at a pinch.

Now, we may loose Daniella, Brown and Utai, but I'm sure not all 3\. From where I'm sitting, I would prefer a prop.

I heard Sheens say "Just because you are having a coffee with someone, doesnt mean you are going to sign them." So maybe he was just having a chat with Ryan Cross about signing John Grant. Maybe he wanted to keep it quiet so no other clubs. Humphreys coming out and saying they were interested in Ryan Cross may have been a smoke screen for John Grant…

They probably never heard of him. I know everybody I speak to has never heard of him. But watch the youtube highlights and he COULD be something special. If other clubs got wind of this and we could possibly missed out on him. There was no way they were going to sign Cross. Smoke screen…. Didnt see any other clubs trying to sign Tuiaki either and look what he turned out to be.

Point taken. However, Sheens has stated that Ellis could be moved into the front row this year and Blair can play prop, second row or lock. So both of these players could be listed as props. Good ones they would be.

Backs are another story. We need another big fast centre. We all saw what happened when Lawrence was hurt this year. No worthwhile replacement for him. Reddy could be answer with Ayshford moving to lock, allowing Blair and Ellis (or Dwyer) to play second row, with Blair or Ellis playing front row if necessary.

Still no specialist fullback. Grant is likely or Tedesco. It would seem that Mullaney is not in Sheens' plans.

And remember that Utai ( if retained) would be rather good coming off the bench for either the wing or second row replacement, along with Heino.

So, plenty of forwards to move about, but not so many quality backs.

Hope you see my point.

Not every position is going to be filled with a superstar Col. If Ayshford gets injured, Reddy could easily slot in at centre and Brown could fill in at fullback.

We definetly need another quality outside back as a priority (preferably fullback…although centre ideal). You can see the difference in the side lawrence makes in 4 weeks.

No disrespect to ayshford whose a good player (Although nowhere near as good as the forum portrays), but with lawrence out we had no penetration on either side of the field. In the semis last year, it was also quite evident that if we shut down lawrences side we really had no attack. We really need a penetrating fullback or right centre to change things.

We might have alot of outside backs as someone listed, but not enough above average ones.

Ayshford has been playing very well this year but IMO isn't going to put fear in the opposition. Out right side needs something more then solid

I reckon next years backs are a mess in the making from the Maestro,Sheens
Weve lost McKinnon and Moltzen,& probably two of Brown/Utai/Daniella,& possibly Lui…& gained Grant(a pure spec signing)& Reddy(average at best with an injury question mark)
None of the departees (excepting Utai)have had any real impact this year, but they are all seasoned 1st graders ,and there are no clear replacements ready to go in 2012
Miller,Tedesco & Sironen are probably late 2012 or 2103,& Tuquiri isnt getting any younger(or injury free).
Which means two things-Ayshford will be in the backline next year somewhere ,& if any quality outside backs/fullbacks come on the market who cant get a run in 1sts (egVidot..David Williams)& arent over the hill,we shld be looking at them at the rite price
