Wests Tigers plan to play Tim Moltzen at halfback

Tigerlogic you seem to forget that Miller lost two of his best assets (Groat and Woods) to NRL top side and that although sides will be focussing on him they have far bigger issues to worry with Farah,Marshall,Lawrence Ayshford Moltzen and fully fit Lote hopefully

He will also be playing behind a forward pack that contains Gallaway ,Woods,Ellis ,Blair,Groat, Heighington and Bell

I am slightly concerned about Miller not stepping up but as well as looking at 2012 we must also look at the future

If he doesn't step up we have Moltzen ,Chisholm and Humble to fall back on

But Miller should be given first shot at the 7 jersey

Why should he be given first crack?

I think Miller will make it but I think he needs to be brought along slowly - straight into 7 in an NRL team is a lot of pressure.

I agree regarding the Tigers u/20's last year they did look a little lost upfront especially late in the season and this did impact Jacob's performances.

Helmesy as you stated you think he will be our future half back and make it

If we thought he was ready last season playing in a team that was heavily depleted by injury at the time I believe he will definitely ready with another 12 months under his belt and playing behind a fully functioning Wests Tigers unit

If he is ready now age or inexperience shouldn't be an issue

I thought moltzens kicking game isn't half bad, he just really hasn't had a chance to show it off.

He certainly has the biggest boot in the club if I'm not mistaken.

If not, Farah might have to take more of an active kicking role. He was pretty absent with that last year (probably due to his groin issues)

Sheens came out a few years ago and gave him a massive rap as the longest kicker in the club, the next weekend he fluffed every attempt at kick. Also if you ever have seen his short kicking game its woefull, but things can change with heaps of practice but at this level i just dont see him as a kicker

Exactly. This "biggest boot at the club" rubbish annoys me. If he has the biggest boot he certainly hasn't showed it. I hope for our sake he has developed a kicking game in the off season, otherwise we are in for a rough year.

I'd be more inclined to put Millers lack of dominance in the second half of the year down to energy. The kid had the biggest of highs in the middle of the year getting his chance in NRL and then had to go back to schoolboy football behind a pack that was clearly dominated. I think a few need to understand what this sort of stuff does to young players. (It doesnt mean he isnt ready, as this is the same scenario that happens to many NRL Players after getting thier chance at Origin.) Furthermore, Miller also had to run the team as a halfback and five eight for many rounds, and that alone would be draining with every expert in his ear telling him to do this, do that, Sheens telling him he wants something different in his game and the list goes on…

The guy was also the Toyota Cup Halfback of the year, but apparently played crap for 1/2 a year :crazy

I'd be inclined to look at his form in the first 10 weeks of last year to realise where his future lies and from what I saw he is more than capable stepping up to NRL Level. Whether that applies to NRL at the Tigers is a different assessment, as I wouldnt want to be a young kid wedge between the antics of Farah & Marshall!

Realistically, judging by some of the comments, I can only see Sheens moving Moltzen to 7 if he is gona start the year with Tedesco. If this is the case, 7 is the best option for Moltzen....

Not sure if you watch much NYC, it is difficult given we always play on free to air, but he seemed to get worse as the year went on, others have said he may have been carrying an injury, unfortunately also heard murmurs he thought he was above NYC and had a few attitude issues. Hoping the latter is not true.

Sad to see all the anti Moltzen brigade who always said he shouldn't be half and wasn't a fullback getting stuck into him before even one game's been played.
Give the guy a break. :bash

You're probably referring to me. Not bashing him at all, just stating a fact. He has never had a competent kicking game in first grade, unless you can provide me some video evidence to the contrary.

He is going to need to develop a kicking game if we are to be successful with him playing halfback. I would love nothing more than for that to happen, as it will mean we should have a great year.

Not referring to you personally Happy .
There seem to be a fair few on here who don't like anything he does and can't give him credit for anything.
All I'm saying is can we at least wait until he does something wrong before we bag him.
Personally , even though I thought he would have done better at half than Lui last year , he seemed to be making a good fist of fullback after being shunted around all seaon .
I'm surprised Sheens didn't leave him there- but he obviously has someone else pencilled in for fullback.

Hammer i heard today off a top 25 player Tedesco will get first crack at fullback. Id say if he goes ok in the trials he will get the gig

Any clues King Sirro ? James Tedesco must be a very good player to push Tim Moltzen to halfback, how old is he ? Sorry can't say I know too much about him.

Personally if I were the Fonz and I was picking the team I would have Moltzen at halfback. He is a terrible fullback and watched so many tries being scored at his feet in 2011 including that fateful night against the Warriors.

Moltzen needs to stay at Halfback all season and he needs to work on his kicking game for hours every day as Robbie is still recovering from Groin surgery, it is unkown how he will be kicking come round one, so we need Moltzen to be on the money with his kicking game.

In regards to fullback I feel that Tedesco might be a bit green, although I watched them last week and he looked on fire. Personally I would go for Mitch Brown. I think he had a wonderful back end to the 2010 season at fullback and he was very unlucky and poorly treated by the Fonz in 2011.

Lote wont play for god knows how long so I would have Utai on his wing and Joel Reddy on the bench to cover wing, centre, fullback and back row.

As for Miller, I think he will not get on well with the Fonz unless he tames down his ego a tad. Fonz hates blokes that are up themselves as there is only room for one person in that organisation to be up themselves.

Bug just wondering where the info on Lote came from I thought he just had the pin removed and was fairly routine ??

Yep…I reckon Marshall/Moltzen will be an awesome combo as it has proven to be in the past.

I'd still like to see them do the Farah to Benji outside to Moltzen inside move. They must have done that 20 times in 2011 and it worked almost everytime....they should call it the Sex Tiger (a la Sex Panther in Anchorman).

I was thinking even Moltzen 6, Marshall 7...but you need Marshall out wide and in today's game the roles are very similar anyway.

Is it March yet?

That play your talking about is from when Moltzen is following the ball at fullback

Guns that play is designed for moltz at fullback but he scored a cracking try off it from centre in r26 2008 v titans, and sheens always says his running game is his strength so I'm sure they'll run it with him no matter wot

Yeah I know…my point was that they could still run that play if Moltzen has a 7 on his back. Obviously he and Benji will play on oopposite sides so it will now be obvious when they're going to do it.

One of the amazing things about Benji is he can play an both sides of the field. That said, I can still see that play being pulled from his bag of tricks when need be.

I can tell u all now that as long as things go smooth enough in the trials. Teddy will be at fullback and Moltz at 7\. Round 1.
