Wests Tigers Sack Jason Taylor - OFFICIAL..

If this is true-and like any of Rothfield's output that's far from certain-please punt our other two head coaches as well. Our Intrust side is an embarrassment (3 huge defeats) and our Under 20's (2 huge losses) not much better. If there's to be a clean-out, make it a complete one. We need healthy successful lower grades to cover performance and injury issues in our NRL side.

Agree that something needs to change and Taylor should go. In his defence he was hamstrung by poor cap management from previous admin.

What the team needs is Hasler or Bellamy. The only way we would ever get them over would be to pay massive overs. For that we need Harry to bust open the chequebook and pay up as his way of leaving a lasting legacy.

That is highly unlikely to happen so next best is Cleary. Not as keen on Payten. Too much player power again. I don't rate Toovey as a coach.

New coach will have no excuse and can build his own roster.

Appointing Payten will see us be another Dragons…with their appointment of McGregor as HC...out of his depth

The dragons are 3rd with a plus 20 f/a after just pumping the premiers, we are last with a minus 54 f/a after getting hammered 2 weeks in a row, Mary looks pretty good from where I am sitting.

Its Cleary or nothing for me. Not sure why the infatuation with Toovey after the way he was dumped at Manly, supposedly driven by the players. Payten has Trent Barrett written all over him. If you sack a coach, the idea is to bring in somebody better. And no one can say that Payten is a better coach than Taylor. All the Taylor haters will say "anyone is better than Taylor". Wrong, there is always someone worse out there. If the club goes with Todd you might find that out the hard way.

Spot on. It simply has to be cleary.

It's being separately reported on the SMH now, with a line suggesting a direct WT source "Fairfax Media has been told the team's unacceptable past two performances will be on the agenda, which could spell the end of Taylor's NRL coaching career."

Let's get a REAL coach please Cleary is the bloke the club should be chasing, I don't want Payton anywhere near this club he is UNPROVEN at nrl level as a coach, if Pascoe has any smarts about him he would be on the phone to Cleary already

Will this change anything in the long run?
Theres multiple issues around the club, do they think getting rid of one bloke will change everything?

Yes, if the article is accurate it will help retain four players who we do need to build a team around. Payten has been mentored by Tim Sheens and apparently is keen to be coach at WTs. In the current situation that has to be a good thing.

Did you see those four players play yesterday? I'm not convinced I want half of them.

They'll go well.

The halves will need to to better than 'well'.
As Johns said, theres no fight in them.

lol… A New Coach will fix us?!

Looks like another 3 years of "[coach] inherited this squad" from our board etc.

Our problem is Structure & Stock… Nothing will change without NEW Stock!

Correct. It doesn't matter what coach comes in, they're not going to walk up to Brooks and Moses, tap them on shoulder and tell them they won't miss any more tackles and are now the best defensive halves in the comp. We need a complete overhaul of playing stock. Our problems are not going to be fixed with a new coach.

I'm not a Taylor fan but it pisses me off that the players routinely move coaches on cause they feel like it

Geeez I'm surprised they aren't blaming Farah for this.

I agree I think Cleary might be to soft and does not have a great coaching record 49% win ratio. But hey that's better than Taylor 44%. We need a mongrel coach who is going make these guys bleed for the club. Toovey was a tough nut 58% win rate too, maybe he is the answer and have Skando or Payten as his assistant as they may bring back a bit of pride in the club which is so sorely lacking.

Who could replace Jason Taylor as coach of Wests Tigers?
MARCH 20, 201712:26PM
Nick Campton
The Daily Telegraph

WE knew Jason Taylor was under pressure, we just didn’t know how much.
After three eventful seasons, Taylor’s reign in charge of the Tigers is over after just three matches of the 2017 season, making it the earliest coach firing since Matthew Elliott lasted five matches in charge of the Warriors in 2014.
Here are some of the candidates to take over the battling club.
TODD PAYTEN
A former assistant at the Tigers, Payten is currently working with North Queensland but was an assistant and lower grade coach at the Tigers. He led the joint venture’s under-20s side to a premiership in 2012 and guided the NSW under-18s to back-to-back wins over Queensland in 2013 and 2014.

After moving to the Cowboys, Payten guided their under-20s side to the minor premiership in 2015 before joining Paul Green’s staff as an assistant.
Payten was in consideration to replace Mick Potter when he was sacked in 2014 but was overlooked.
The 2005 premiership winner can be considered the favourite for the job — he’s still very popular with the playing group.

IVAN CLEARY
Cleary is the best credentialed candidate, having steered the Warriors to the 2011 grand final and took Penrith to a preliminary final in 2014 before he was surprisingly sacked at the end of 2015\. The best coach currently without a club, Cleary has been linked with a move to the Dragons in the past and has a proven track record with young playmakers, as evidenced by his work with Shaun Johnson in the Kiwi superstar’s rookie season in 2011 and Matt Moylan in 2014.

GEOFF TOOVEY
Toovey is currently coaching fallen English powerhouse Bradford but the Tigers would be foolish not to look into landing the former Manly mentor.
The 47-year old steered the Sea Eagles to the 2013 grand final after taking over from Des Hasler and only missed the finals once in his four-year tenure with the Silvertails.
Toovey’s Manly sides were underlined by exemplary mental and physical toughness, qualities the Tigers needs in droves.

THE WALKER BROTHERS
Ben and Shane Walker’s stock took a little bit of a dip last season but if the Tigers want an unorthodox choice the Ipswich Jets duo could be the way to go.
The Jets’ stirring run to the State Championship in 2015, and their thumping victory over the Knights, underlined the effectiveness of the Walker brothers’ attacking philosophy.
While Ipswich suffered a downturn in 2016 the idea of turning over the attacking skills of Luke Brooks, Mitch Moses, James Tedesco and David Nofoaluma to two mad scientists of offensive rugby league is certainly intriguing.

ANDREW WEBSTER/PAUL STRINGER
The two most low-key choices, Webster has vast amounts of experience in the Tigers lower grades and also spent two years as an assistant to Andrew McFadden in New Zealand.
He steered the Tigers 2014 under-20s side to the semi-finals and was an assistant at English club Hull KR from 2006 to 2011.

Former Eels and Rabbitohs prop Stringer coached Wyong Roos from 2007-13 before joining the Tigers, where he coached their NSW Cup side in 2016\. Stringer and Webster shape as likely interim appointments but a good run of form could see them appointed permanently.

The scary thing is every team is reasonably competitive this year.

Even the Knights and Dragons have improved their defence, most teams on the weekend were competitive and in some matches 14-16 points was enough to win a game.

We on the other hand after the initial 30 minute mark got blown out of the water….Penrith and Raiders scored points at will against us.....thats not a good sign at all.

Something definitely stinks at the club....is it the coach or the players.????

Souths scored the last ten points against us in the match.
Penrith scored the last 34 points against us in the match.
Raiders scored the last 46 points against us in the macth.

See the pattern ???????????

In the last 2.25 matches we have scored 8 points and conceded 90.

There is no way to make that sound good at all.

It's a chook raffle our club.
After 3 rounds they looking to sack him to appease some overrated kids who want another boss.
Who gets sacked on a 1-2 record?

If they sack him I welcome it, I want to see these kids sink our club back into the boys club it always was.
Our "big 4" know the gig was up and they are going to be separated by Taylor. He wasn't going to keep them all next season.
A new coach won't turn us around this season.

Players need to look at themselves. Ask themselves why they can't tackle.

And wasn't it our young halves who had a bit to do with Potters sacking and Farahs outing as well as Austins.

Yeah a new coach will come in and drastically fix everything.
Moses and Brooks will make 30 tackles each and miss none.
Kev will stop rushing up and making terrible errors.
Our forwards will suddenly be busting bigger packs apart.

Seems highly unlikely.

Nah ….keep him for 1 more week ...
Sack the imposter at 1/2 time at Leichhardt !

Have Farah present him with his severance cheque !

No no no no no :frowning:

"You can either forfeit your contract and leave immediately, or you'll be running the water bottles for the remainder of the season. Regardless of how your replacement performs"

I love it
Send him to reggies to run water bottles. He will regret what he did to Farah then.

I'm probably showing some ignorance here but everyone is saying that Cleary is the best option for coach. Does anyone know his win-loss record as head coach? I'm trying to understand why everyone is raving about him.

But maybe a new coach will stop patting them on the back and tell them its about winning, a good effort is not good enough. If you dont improve then havr a stint in reggies or your services wont be required next year.
